What character surprised/disappointed you?

Now that the game has been out a couple of days and most of us have gotten the chance to play it, I was wondering which characters surprised or disappointed you? Like, which of your initial thoughts pre-release have changed now that you've actually played with these characters?

For example, I already knew I would want to play as Takeda, but I thought his Lasher Variation would be the one I'd prefer, however, his Shirai Ryu Variation is actually the one I like the most.

Also, I had thought Cassie would be a favourite of mine, due to her resembling alot of my other faves from other games (Cammy/Nina/Lien), but I actually don't like playing as her all that much which is rather disappointing.

Surprising: Takeda. His Lasher variation is my new main. And Jax too. LOVE the Heavy Weapons variation.

Disappointed: Reptile.. man he was the MAN in MK9. Really not that great now.

So far, Sonya has surprised me a lot. I dont find too much appealing the grenades, I can't even recall her variation that i used (only played on story).

Her combos are good, beautiful, easy and she has good abilities.

I wouldn't say disappointed, but I thought Displacer Raiden was more than the teleport. It's more of a klassic Raiden.

I prefer Thunder God.

And Sub-Zero: really, he is too good. A surprise because I think he is crap on MK9.

Majority is about new characters:

Surprising: Jacqui and Ferra/Torr. Both of them were kind of meh in terms of design etc. but they are actually ok. Jacquis gameplay was surprisingly fun and Ferra/Torr is just adorable couple.

Disappointing: Reptile and Kotal Kahn. Reptile because his story still didn't progress. His gameplay has also been kind of shock, considering he was my biggest main with Raiden in MK9 (maybe it will change again once I study him some more). Kotal because he was dumb as hell in story. His gameplay also felt dull and not interesting.

Wild card: Sonya. I liked her very much in MK9, but I thought before the release since I wasn't that hyped (even though I was sure I'd like her) and felt she could have been left out. Her gameplay though just took me back to love her.

Kotal disappointed for sure. He's kotal crap in terms of gameplay. His normals and specials are slow as hell and he doesn't have a lot of tools to begin with. Nothing against projectile zoners, especially.

I liked War God, but mostly because of his specials. Kotal is indeed slow.

Sun God is yet useless for me. I mean, Blood God is to much "keeping the Totem lifted", so I consider more defensive.

But Sun God is just two things different. War God you have more attacks and they are better on his combos.

All of my expectations for Sub-Zero fully panned out. I'm glad how he turned out.

I thought I was going to love Reptile in this game. He's not bad. I'm just not really feeling him at the moment.

Kenshi is absolutely amazing in this game. I love his possessed variation. All of his variations are good and feel unique.

I thought that Erron Black was going to be Deathstroke 2.0 and I thought that Kitana was going to be insanely frustrating to fight against. Neither of those ended up turning out how I thought they would. That's a good thing.

War God has more range, but still very slow start-up. From what I've gathered, it's his best variation, though.

I've been mostly using sub zero and liking how he turned out. Cryomancer is my favorite so far. He gets new juggle combos and range. I thought grandmaster was kinda lame, You can't make ice clones in air.

So happy and pleasantly surprised by how fun Sub Zero, Scorpion, and Reptile are. I'm also quite thrilled with Goro and Kotal.

I'm very 'meh' about Kitana.

Long time lurker here:

I just have to say, the new characters I hated at first when they were revealed. This is mostly because I grew up with the classics from MK 1 to MK 4 and have always felt new comers in the the MK games could not pale in comparison to the veterans. However, NRS did great bringing these new Kombatants in. Loving Cassie Cage and Kotal Kahn. And while Shinnok has been around since the days of old he feels fresh and new and i'm currently maining him.

Suprises:

Me using kotal sun god more than war god although war god is a bit better due to more specials.

Im also with the op on takeda. His lasher variation is cool but his shirai ryu variation is much faster abd the telport helps.

Me being good with erron as i am. Guys a beast his combos are great only thing about them is you have to use his 112 startup to get most of the combos off because they are slow and punishable but deadly.

Me actually maining females. Once i have all my other mains down pack im maining jacqui and cassie. Love them i usually hate chicks in mk but they are among my favsand are beasts .

Dissapointments:

Kung lao :(. His combos and regulars all suck and hes a completely different guy compared to mk9. Maybe i need to spend more time woth him but so far i cant do anything with this guy.

I gotta say, I was considering Ferra/Torr as a worthless character. But they're actually EXTREMELY fun to use.

Hahah I was just playing as them and got this dialouge

Cassie: How much for him
Ferra: No sale, we paired forever!
Cassie: Rather have a moped anyway

If you mean gameplay i'm not really surprised or dissappointed by anything. I guess if i had to pick one was how free they made raiden's teleport. it has so many frames of recovery.

Story mode wise I was surprised how much importance they gave Sareena in MKX. She had a bigger role than 1/2 of the playable cast.

Highly disappointed in Kotal Kahn. His look, voice, and overall Aztec gimmick is great. His gameplay, even after figuring it out, seems underwhelming.

Very surprised by Jacqui Briggs. Love her move set and feel an adrenaline rush playing as her. Kudos to Netherrealm for taking generic-looking characters and making them surprisingly fun and entertaining.

It's hard to say, a lot of characters surprised me and disappointed me. There's so many characters I liked in the story.

I'm surprised at the amount of returning characters considering Netherealms pre-release talk of having more new characters than any previous installment. Most of the new characters were pleasantly surprising in terms of their design and gameplay. They look great and play great. The only one I have any complaints about is Jacqui Briggs. She just feels completely uninspired and a bit irrelevant with the inclusion of her father.

They made a few redundant choices in regards to the roster (mostly pertaining to klassic characters). Spots that could've been filled by several MK4 fighters I can think of. Would've felt appropriate considering the timeline as well.

Im very surprised by Kung Jin. Before the game came out, I thought he looked meh but after using Bojutsu, that opinion has changed. He has good range, really good damage and hes a smartass.

Disappointed by Kung Lao. He was one of my favorite characters in MK9 story and gameplay wise but in this game, hes just a jobber and his gameplay feels much more difficult to pull off satisfying combos with.

Has Kano basically not having a move list always been a thing? I was surprised by the lack of strings compared to other characters. Playing him simply does not feel natural.
