It would be great if someone could confirm/deconfirm this. I haven't heard it before.

Boon thought Cyber Sub-Zero would be a surprise in MK9. His definition of "surprise" is open to interpretation.

OK, so that points to Shinnok.

Which could make him want to redeem Shinnok as a boss in MKX.

A big bad has never been shown as playable character like this before, it would take the fun and surprising part out of it wouldn't it? With all the other signs, Shinnok is definitely not the boss.

Just out of curiosity, how hard did NRS keep Liu Kang under wraps for MK:D? Was he ever leaked? I know they came out and said that they wanted to keep him under complete wraps, to the point where they didn't release a hi-res render for him.

Maybe they're going to the same lengths for keeping the big bad hidden?
 
I remember when I follow MKD on the web back in 2004, Midway did their hardest to avoid Liu Kang being leak on message boards and sites like Myspace. I remember most fans didn't know that he was in the game until the game was out.

Maybe. Maybe not. I don't see how you can be so confident.

Reiko is not in MKX, very easy to accept that.

I can kinda see Reiko with control of the daggers and amulet, possessed by blood demon, or both in some form of Shao Khan getup. I prefer unplayable bosses keeps them unique and overpowered, not a powerhouse in ladder then a nerfed character thats playable.
 
Somebody posted a picture of Shinnok from the kharacter select screen and he looked like that winged Demon so im thinking its him in demon form.
 
I would love to think that Shinnok Will gain ultimate power and transform into a demon/dragon-type character (that is unplayable) as a boss. It would be a recurring character, unplayable boss, a surprise.. It would fit all. But I guess it just won't happen.
Hmmm, I think it's strange that they don't talk about Noob. I mean, It looks as if Kuai is Sub-zero and Noob is not heard from since the soulnado. Two possible things: 1: he died in the soulnado --> Netherrealm wraith. 2 --> He got stronger in the soulnado --> big boss?
But then what did he do for the last 25 years?
 
Boon said the boss would be a surprise but I highly doubt that its a surprise to us hardcore fans.

If Shinnok was the boss, it would be just like MK4. I don't think that's the case though. Shinnok seems like he will fill Shang Tsung's role, similar to MK9. But also being an unlockable character.

I know the select screen isn't final but Shinnok is in the opposite corner as Goro. Goro is DLC and Cyber Sub-Zero (MK9), being an unlockable character, was in the DLC slot. That could be another hint towards Shinnok being unlockable.

The comics having me leaning towards Havik or Reiko as the final boss.
 
Shinnok is probably the tower or 50% unlockable, I also thought the opposite corner of Goro was a hint at that.

With the new comics out, Havik is definitely not the boss and I'd say he's probably not even in the story mode.

Exactly. Thats why the cyborgs wont be in either. Predator uses cyrax's moves and other people have used sektors moves. Shang has been confirmed dead. Get over it people not everyone is coming back. Nrs basically brought back from the dead the icons who were most used, popular and used heavily in tournaments.
