MORTAL KOMBAT X general discussion

As a long-time MK fan I have to say some of you really have a weird perception of MK.
You shun Bo'Rai'Cho for his comic relief yet love Cage and other comic characters...
Not to mention MK has had comic relief since forever.
Lol. Bo'Rai'Cho is the first fat (MK3 Stryker is chubby...) character, first Outworld male aiding Earthrealm in such a major way...
He has such a great story and design and original move list.
Yet you guys go for classic characters that lack all of that *cough Rain* just my two cents.

I also believe a lot of MK fans are swayed by the majority or what Boon says, that is why half of the "fans" like Scorpion...
Hsu Hao had potential but you all turned on him when Boon said he sucked.
He's better than a lot of other characters.

It seems to be that NRS/Midway creates something more and more original every game and then throws it away.
Drahmin had potential, great costume design and story and instead we get a crappy move list in MKA and then he gets discarded.

I wouldn't be surprised if all the 'new' characters we're getting in MKX (Kotal, Ferra, D'Vorah) all disappear for good after MKX.
It is kind of sickening. I for one like to see a mix of new and old, that is perhaps why I enjoyed MKDA and MKD. I want to see Reiko, Fujin, and the other good post-trilogy characters return and maybe give another shot to some of the potentially good/good characters (Havik, Drahmin, Blaze, Sareena...)

I guess that's just me though, I love all the characters, even Rain. I just like some more than others.
Except Mokap.

Johnny Cage was the first character ever kreated for MK (especially given MK's roots as a Jean-Claude Van Damme endorsement that fell through), and he is comic relief. Enough said.

I don't think that addresses my criticism.
My beef isn't with Cage, in fact I believe I defended him on a similar subject in a different thread.
I am just still appalled that people think MK is supposed to be all dark with no humor.
Cage is testimony that MK has had humor since the first title.

I just took your point a step further by pointing out the origins of the kreation of that character. MK was supposed to be a celebrity endorsement type of game...kinda like Shaq Fu, but since Van Damme turned it down, they instead kreated a character based on him, which was of course Johnny Cage, so MK has had comic relief literally since Day One. Even before the dark themes came into play.

The original games were mostly dark, especially mk2 and the only humor was subtle tongue in cheek humor like the self aware fatalities that are over the top and of course, Johnny. Even then, Johnny's humor was more subtle like putting on sunglasses after a fight. The friendships were pretty much designed to be more embarrassing of a finisher but were very out of place. For years, mk2 had the darkest tone and was known for being the best mk out of the bunch because people loved that atmosphere. The next praised game was deception which pretty much returned to that dark atmosphere as well.

The dark tone and mk go together well and it seems that netherrealm caught on to this for MKX. Now that does mean it can't have humor, but it should be fitting tongue in cheek, black comedy humor. Bo Rai Cho throwing up and farting people to death just seemed like that were trying to appeal to 12 year olds for a stupid laugh. I couldn't stand him because that's all I saw him as and nothing about his design was appealing. He's just a fat guy in mk. Hsu Hao and Drahmin could have had potential, but their design/gameplay sucked and people didn't like it. It's not like we were following Boon on Twitter back then for his opinion either. Like I said, I have no problem with mk having humor, but leave that Adam Sandler herpty derp fart jokes out of it.
 
Friendships and Babalities, while humorous, were also a giant you to the people giving Midway grief over the violent nature of the series. So even the comedy had darker roots to it.

That never stopped him from kicking ass and taking names...in both storyline, and ESPECIALLY gameplay. He could've won 10 straight Mortal Kombat tournaments if his victories would actually yield the outcome he wanted.

Again, all they need to do is drop the toilet humor and you have a badass character on your hands.

The potty jokes happened ten years ago. Get over it.
 
Im taking a new approach. I will believe from now till release that they are simply announcing the known commodities and are saving the new characters for surprises.

The potty jokes literally ruined the character. It's what people think about when Bo' Rai Cho is brought up. Saw a few youtube videos earlier today of people playing the 3D games and every time Bo' Rai Cho was on screen, they groaned.

NRS is better off keeping him on the sidelines.

If they dropped the toilet humor, he would no longer be known for the toilet humor. It's that simple.

Wern't you pushing a Khameleon revamp back in the yes/no thread? Even tho Khameleon is hated for the most part, and only known as the "ninja Shang Tsung".

Chameleon. Yes. And I proposed an idea that would revamp him while keeping the whole mimic ability.
