Console systems that "died" on you.

Here are mine...

1. Sega Dreamcast: 1999-2006. This one could not allow any disks anymore.

2. PS2 (My first/big one.): "Died" in 2007 after the disk of "The Warriors" and "Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects" messed it up possibly or it was too old.

Now: My second/small PS2 is not reading any of my disks as of today. Will try again later but I think this one is on "hospice" is what I'd call it. Lol

Not to mention, I had another Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects disk I bought about 2 years ago for the same system and it also messed up within 2 months (I bet the way it was manufactured really sucks. It just had to be on a good game.) :(

Oh well. I have my cousin's PS3 and I'll possible get a PS4 when MKX comes out. Also, my half sisters and nephew have an XBOX 360 and they have Injustice, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon (which I bought for my nephew for his B-Day last year), and a lot of other games so I can play those too.

I guess nothing lasts forever (I'm only talking about video games and electronics.) :(

PS2 Slim: shite design flaw that you had to turn them off at the mains and standby would kill them. My Uncle has my fat PS2, still works to this day. Doesn't like DVD on some occasions but not dead.

PS3 Fatty: Had 2 blu ray readers die. Constantly remove games when done as a result and its lasted 4 years.

GameCube: Don't know how and I still don't believe it but I managed to kill a well serving Nintendo. Served me and the troops Bomberman, Mario Kart, Wrestlemania 19 and WWE Day of Reckoning between 2002-2012.

RIP

PS1: pretty much went kaput a little before the PS2 was released.

PS2: isn't dead yet, but it's having a hard time reading disks these days, especially blue discs. Unfortunately, my efforts at cleaning it doesn't do anything.

What's more frustrating is most of the games will not re-released for newer consoles.

My Super Nintendo lasted me over a decade but broke on me a few years back, I still have some games for it lying on my shelf I will get another one someday on ebay.

PSone lasted me over four years and then I got the slim PS2 which broke in less than 2 years.

I've been through too many xbox 360's to remember.... You'd think I learn by now (cries deeply) hopefully they finally get their shit together on lasting hardware.

Just curious, did you ever attempt to have them repaired?

This might just be my 360,
But mine ALWAYS breaks down...Either it red rings or does some other weird stuff.
So i open it up, wiggle some stuff around, and unplug some stuff and plug it back in
Maybe even dust all the inside.
Then it ALWAYS works again. It's the weirdest thing...It's like they design it to break down, but they also design it to be an easy fix.
That way they can over charge you for a repair that only takes a couple minutes.

Just sayin...Lots of people don't realize that a 50$ (local) repair ends up doing you better then a 250$ new xbox
Think of all the extra Xbox's they sell, because people just go out and buy a new one.

See, that's exactly what's happening with me now!!! It's my PS2 slim is in "hospice" right now and I've been playing MKA at least every week since 2007. That's why there has to be a create a character mode in the MK series some time around.

But damn, we need consoles that would last a lifetime.

I've had three Gamecubes break down on me. They brought me and my siblings Super Smash Brothers Melee, Mario Kart: Double Dash, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, and many other games.

I also had my Wii just... cease to read discs for me. Dang it! I want my Mortal Kombat Armageddon!

I've repaired them myself and sent them off to be repaired by microsoft (under waranty). The same problems would resurface after a period of time though. Many of my friends had the same thing happen to them. The systems that were released in 2005 -07 (for me) were badly designed which is why I bought a ps3 (still works )later.

My original fat PS2 burned out, thankfully while still under the 2 year warranty.
I got a slim PS2 after that (2003), and I just sold the PS2 slim a while ago.

The only games that I played on the PS2 these days were the MGS games, but I got the MGS HD Collection on PS3.

Given horror stories regarding recent consoles, they are poorly built when it comes to durability. As much as I would love to have consoles that would last a lifetime, it's unlikely to happen.

However, I do think more publishers consider re-releases of retro titles to future platforms. Sadly, the majority of them let go waste after the last generation is over, especially after spending so much on development. A lot of movies that were released on VHS are now available in Blu-ray; I wish video games could get the same treatment.

Same here.
I jsut wish I could do a 1 time thing where I insert my PS2 or PS3 discs into the PS4 and get a digital version of that game.
Sucks having to hold onto old consoles to play those games.
I already bought it, and I don't want to have to buy it again.

I had at least two Sega CD's die on me, it would just stop reading the disc. The only other system that did that was the Xbox 360. I had the red ring of death like 3 or 4 times, luckily all under warranty.

I was able to fix that problem back in the day with my PS2 by adjusting the eye-laser reading part. I remember seeing a video on youtube where you can crank it higher or lower. And this "distance" from the CD makes all the difference between not reading some disks.

I totally agree and I'd want it in HD versions if possible. If I could "thank" you I will but I think I passed my limit again.

Publishers need a monetary incentive to re-release games in the first place. Thus, getting a free digital version of the game using your original disc is not going to work out. If you own a VHS version of The Godfather, you still have to buy the Blu-ray version if you want it.

While it can it can be pain to have to buy another copy, it's better than not having any available. Since most of the money spend on development has already been done, they don't need to sell them at the original retail price.

It's strange how it can read gold and silver discs with relative ease, but blue or black discs give it fits. Anyways, once things get settled, I'll look into adjusting the laser lens. When I open up my PS2, just wipe away the dust, I never tried to muck around with the parts.

I'm iffy about HD remakes. Some of them are alright, but in the wrong hands it cause changes for the worse. I was tempted to buy Zone of the Enders: HD collection, but I heard it had frame rate issues not present in the PS2 versions.
