MK movie update/MK Legacy discussion

As a companion piece to the article above, here's this one:

Just read the stuff regarding the movie -

Is the movie just going to be a continuation of where the story is going to end this season, or is it going to be a stand alone thing?

No, it’s going to be a stand alone thing for multiple reasons. We consciously decided to do that because we want Legacy to keep going on its own, and a lot of the people who are going to see the movie, I’m not expecting them to watch 20 episodes of Mortal Kombat Legacy to enjoy the film. It doesn’t feel like that’s the right way to go.

In working with the video game creators we want to take the mythology that exists and add multiple new layers. That’s the intention of the movie.

So characters that die this season could potentially still be in the movie?

Correct.

Since it’s going to exist in its own separate universe is it going to be similar in tone to Legacy?

Yeah. My instincts are to go grounded and gritty and tonally dark, and Mortal Kombat really lends itself to that. So tonally they’ll be pretty similar if not more grounded. There will still be all the special powers and mythology and mysticism, but tonally I like to push things into the grounded and dark realm.

Man, fuk kevin! gotdamn right Legacy is half-assed!

I dont know about fukkin "realistic" mortal kombat, they better off keepin MK "real mystic"!

and also, This fukker better not lay a gotdamn hand on power rangers...

As he said the special powers and fantasy will stay but the atmosphere and asthetic will be grounded as opposed to being heavily stylized.

Even though I wouldn't mind a stylized MK film.

Oh come on now Kevin, you don't actually think MK lends itself to that, you just say that because going dark and gritty is what everyone does these days and earns a lot of money that way. Anway yeah, I totally agree, a story that mainly takes place in an other dimension, is full of 4 armed monsters, sorcerers and even the character that is based on a real-life B-movie action hero shoots green stuff from his hands and has his own name tattoed on him with huge letters really lends itself well to a realistic, gritty approach. :D

Reading the full interview I could only come to one conclusion: this guy is an idiot. :D Saying the Raiden episode was horror? :D Dark and gritty Power Rangers???? :DDDD The guy playing the original red ranger did some gay porn movies, that's dark enough for me. :DD

^^This fukker...lol

The red ranger porn thing was proven not to be ASJ(the OG red ranger actor), it was some other muthafukker. That rumor was debunked a LOONG time ago, home-slice... sorry to disappoint you.

Oh shit son, I am disappoint. :(((( Though I'm more disappointed in the fact that you can't see smileys even when there are two of them. :)

Keep MK as MK has always been...
I used to be down for such a change in MK, but this muthafukker Kevin aint convincing me at ALL... not with half assed Legacy.

Like Dog said, this fool is tryna follow the crowd with all that dark and gritty shit so HE can make some money, because 'Fame' did NOT equal Fortune for his ass.

Gotdamn Power Rangers going Dark, LOL!! Nooo, lol. get the fuk outta here, Lol

Nice! I'd want the movie to be a martial arts version of the HOSTEL series!!!!!!!!!! Pls!!!!!!!

I mean Jade getting all "Vlad the Impaler", Sindel being a dominatrix banshee, and Mileena being a "MANeater", eating a guy from crotch to face! That would be AWESOME!

Well, a series called "MMPR" is being made, had the whole "dark and gritty" style, and people from the original show are on board. I'm actually hella excited for it.

I was wondering if Talisa Soto can be Sindel. She has the voice. On the other hand, Natassia Malthe has the looks and the feistiness of Sindel but her voice isn't as deep as the Edenian Queen's.

MK story is a dark and gritty story lol.

You can't use the only comic relief in mortal kombat as the basis for
How MK really is.

What's not dark and gritty about people eating people,
Or growing a relationship with other earthrealm warriors to only see
Them die infront of you.

Or when you're deceived into throwing away your soul for a shot at killing someone not responsible for killin your family and clan.

Or when your a god trying to defend earthrealm and you need to choose the right people at the right time
Or they die and you feel like their blood is on your hands

Things in MK9 like babalities surely lighten the mood but they are not cannon. The MK story mode in game just lacks representation of these feels because of budget and talent.

I agree on that with you but you don't need to go to Dark Knight levels of grittines in order to portray those things. MK has its darker moments but those are just that, moments.

Yea I already saw that muthafukkin shit and im not on board with it.
Power rangers was never meant to be dark and gritty and it never was, not even Sentai, though it was alittle bit more mature then PR, and both had its "dark moments" but it never had a dark and gritty atmosphere overall nor does it need to. I mean PR can be made more realistic without going dark and gritty.

All this is, is just some MORE muthafukkas jumpin on the 'Dark and Gritty' bandwagon, this time with a fukin kids show? that just goes to show where peoples minds are theses days...

They had Zedd kill a girl just to set the tone "dark and gritty and evil". There's already enough gotdamn kids getting killed by senseless violence in the REAL world, I aint tryna see that shit at the movies or in the entertainment media as well. That pisses me off, don't fuk with the kids.

Agreed, 100%.

As for Power Rangers:

I was older when they came out, so I never really got into them, but I DID watch this show which was awesome and the inspiration for the Power Rangers:

Voltron FTW!!!!!

I don't see how any moment in mortal kombat isn't dark?

People are dying, it's literally fight for your life and freedom, or die trying.

There is no "few dark moments"

The ENTIRE story is dark themed. please explain to me what mortal kombat you guys are aiming for? Death
Is not something that can be taken lightly on the big screen. And since there will be a lot of death, it's gonna be dark lol.

Voltron came out in the 80s. voltron-team-original.jpg
