Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

I dont think we will have specific shadows per stage but need to check with interloko, our programmer.

@calactyte good job :)
I just want to ask about angle whether the direction of the shadow of the statue and trees etc. will coincide with the fighters in the foreground? Because tnot be in opposite directions at the end. The ideal option Otherwise, each stage, each fighters have own specific shadows and lighting.

Hey Bleed, can mirroring even be avoided without you doing all the moves/animations again for the opposite side?
For example, will we have Kanos' metal faceplate shifting sides every time he changes direction like in the original? Or...?

If you're going to mirror it, maybe do it in the middle of the turn, say in this frame:

2pq45n9.gif
1zmh4xf.gif

Maybe the snap will be less noticeable that way?

Good idea, I'll have to try that.

I can mirror animations in 3Dmax, I've only used the option for a certain pose, like the turn start and end frames.

It can't flip an entire animation in one click, as far as I know. You have to copy and paste mirror at every frame that has an animated key.

Quick question, but whatever happened to Badmouse? He posted some really great stuff early in this thread. Did he leave the project?

I think Badmouse recently tweaked Goro's Lair to look closer to the original. Maybe about a week ago? So he should still be on the project.
Edit: AntrAcsA, Sub-Zera, Bleed, calactyte, and interloko, thanks for the comments and the critiques! Glad to be working on Mortal Kombat. I've been checking up on this project from the start, and I got to know a bit about the people working on the project. So, it's also great to be working with this team. And calactyte, I agree, cant wait to take this into Zbrush where all the details start showing... lol, its tempting, but I still have a long way to go...heheh. That and the skin shaders are going to bring it to life.

Probably too busy with life to be around so often, but he's working on Goro's Lair. Giving it a closer look to MK1, last I saw a few pages back.

about the Palace Gates... I like the color scheme with the blues and the greys. However, on jarvis653's edit I think it looks closer to the original. Theres more technical info on the lighting that you guys mentioned, but I still think the blue tones just makes it look cooler.

Ok, so I'm working on Sub Zero's freeze sound effect and I have a question, how close are you guys wanting the sound effects to be with the original version? Some of the original sounds are VERY bizarre. I can do it either way, though.

I've uploaded a quick version of sub zero's freeze and freeze-hit sounds. It's kind of right in the middle between cartoony and realistic. Let me know what ya think.

Sounds awesome but for me, it's missing a tiny bit of nostalgia. The bizarre style is pretty iconic so maybe you can try something a little closer to the classic. Even if it's odd, just to compare, that vibration missing from the impact mainly.

I'm thinking... close emulation of the original + new detail, treat it like the music.

People should be like "oh yeah, that's from MK1!", without being told.

Link seems broken for me. I'd love to hear it.

Page works but the player doesn't show up on my phone. I'll have to check it out later.

Right now I'm using a Flash player for the sounds. If you guys have a preferred method then just let me know. I figured this was an easy way to get some quick feedback.

And now there are three variations.

Can you make it vibrate slow to fast while fading?

The characters are supposed to shake like a spring when they get frozen. The sound is supposed to reflect that I think.

It could use a stronger hit at the start also.

[edit] You're getting that goofy sound now heh, it's starting to sound more like MK.

The vibration is on the impact, the second part, not when he shoots the ice.

It's like Shooooom......Pff+ vibrate.

The wobble sound you added to the first part is fine, but maybe lower the volume and the pitch?

[edit]

2 and 4 = first half mix 50/50

4, second half = Impact is good now, but the vibrate sounds too electric.

Getting close

There's no rush btw, you can take a day on it if you need to, no need to update so fast.

Version 4 is sounding the most like MK1 so far, best IMO just because of that. It doesn't have to be super realistic, just needs to have that MK1/ old kung fu movie feel to it.

Well I like it the first 1 the best of the 3. The first one I think captures the frozen sound well at the second part. Also I like sound of the ice emission in the first part is, but it doesn't sound like the original. It's kind of cooler than the original.

That's the thing IMO, MK1 HD Remix is supposed to be like the original as much as possible. Things can change as long as they remain very recognizable.

That's the reason I wouldn't choose the first example, it's too.... MK9, as in not going back far enough.

Oh haha, that's good. :)

The last one sounds too much like bird wings, could be more metallic/crisp.

The Hit is too strong, needs to be faded in to more or toned down a little in volume.

I got the turn animation working in mugen now, so it's looking good but the snap is there and easy to spot. Not sure how I'm going to fix it yet, I'm trying different things.
