Fallout (1,2,3, and New Vegas)

Out of all the gun types, I find small guns the most useful. They are easiest types of weapons to acquire and maintain. They come in great varieties, that can accommodate practically many styles of play. I was underwhelmed by sniper rifles though. Their performance wasn't that great considering how scarce the weapon and ammo is. I use the Lincoln Repeater or Ol' Painless (when I want to conserve magnums) if I want to snipe.

Don't get me wrong, there are great weapons in other categories, but I end up using a smaller variety than I would with small guns.

My favorite weapons in Fallout 3 were the Energy Weapons. Kill an Enclave soldier, take his plasma pistol.
Profit.
Plus, it's so bad ass to see your enemy turned into a pile of goo or a pile of ash.
Did anyone find the MPLX Novasurge on Mothership Zeta?
Absolute Victory.

why is this in netherrealm section?

every post about Fallout is pure, genius and well thought out, therefore these posts deserve to count

Good point.
I figured it was pretty off topic and deserved to be in The Netherrealm.. but I would've put it somewhere else if I had thought it out

because Fallout does not fall under the catagory of Video Games I guess?

(unless everyday if you dress up in a blue jumpsuit have a pet dog follow you and go around chasing Co.ckroaches, then fallout becomes more of a way of life rather than a simple vidya game)

Fallout 2 is my favorite Fallout game and it's tied for my favorite game of all time. F3 was a decent game, it just doesn't feel like a Fallout game at all. Not just gameplay, but just about every element in the game feels odd. New Vegas fixed that lack of Fallout nostalgia a little bit by bringing back classic enemies like the geckos and going back to the Western setting, but Fallout 2 will always be my favorite Fallout game.

I understand that. I never had the chance to play the FO 1, or 2. So Fallout 3 and forward is just how fallout is to me. But I definitely feel that New Vegas is Fallout 3 perfected.

Energy weapons are probably my 2nd favorite. I was surprised that the damage per second of the more common variants pales in comparison to small guns. Nevertheless, they are quite reliable thanks to their greater accuracy and critical multipliers. Personally, I prefer laser rifles over plasma rifles. Though the latter is twice as powerful, their slow-moving projectiles make it difficult to hit strafing targets.

Well I was bored surfing my reddits and saw a Fallout related post and had a moment of nostalgia a google moment later and I find this pleasant little thread :-)

I'll start like this:

Fallout 2 is my favorite Fallout game .............. F3 was a decent game, it just doesn't feel like a Fallout game at all. Not just gameplay, but just about every element in the game feels odd........ but Fallout 2 will always be my favorite Fallout game.

In my opinion Fallout 2 is the best Fallout. Without a doubt! Fallout original was a close second IMHO

I say this is because the thing about Fallout... the original fallout story that is... is it's unique and twisted Monty python type humor. It truly was a blast to play.

The original in game descriptions and actions that you could do while playing was also very edgy which was fun I remember one line being "Your sledgehammer hit her square in her abdomen her baby making days are over" LOL I was 15 when I played this game and things in the gaming world were quite different!!!!

The original gameplay was revolutionary at the time and back in 1997 Fallout 1 won a couple awards :

Gamespot - RPG of the year award (1997)
Gamecenter - 1997 Mac Game of the Year award

I just found a website that I personally know has been running for more then 12 years about the original fallout while it was being developed haha.... gawd ... the internet has everything.......

OH!! RANDOM ENCOUTERS!!! ****ing ruled and were part of the original fun: Random Encounters =
If you dont want to see a list of them look below the next set of %%%%%%

You'll need Luck of 9 or 10 in order to get all these encounters during the course of a single game. They all happen when you're just wandering through the wasteland.

Giant Footprint

You come across a giant footprint, in the center of which is a Stealth Boy.

Bob's Used Cars

An old used car lot in the middle of nowhere. Forget about Bob. Head inside and find the Red Ryder LE (Limited Edition) BB Gun! One of the best Small Guns in the game.

Tardis

Straight out of Doctor Who. When you approach it, it disappears... only to reveal: a Motion Detector.

Truck full of Caps

You stumble upon an overturned truck that was carrying a load of Caps. Usually, 10000 or thereabouts!

Crashed Saucer

Some dead aliens, a fantastic weapon (Alien Blaster. Now, there's a curious thing. The aliens use Small Energy Cells too, huh? Oh, right. Chariots of the Gods, of course!), and... a picture of Elvis :-)

Patrick

You chance upon an old traveller in the desert. He'll give you directions to all the places you probably know about already, but if he mentions Celtic songs, and you get the dialogue choice to name one, you sing along with Patrick for a while and get 1 point added to your CH!

My favorite moments of Fallout 1 were: DOGMEAT, Random Encounters

Honorable mention:

Favorite moments were all in the first game. Fighting the Deathclaws, seeing my first Mutant in Necropolis, killing Gizmo in the casino, and going on a berserk killing spree after a gangster killed my dog in the Hub!!!!

/AGREED

....moving on.....

Fallout 2 was my fav because there was just so much you could do, I played that game probably front to back 20 times

Part of this was gaming was getting faster and the load screens between areas was getting less as well!

There were tons of items, lots of in game references to the original game as well as running into many of the npc's from the original such as the goul Harold and his forehead tree and DOGMEAT!!

I love that they brought harold into fallout 3

I miss harold lol http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Harold lol

anyway this is taking too long to write i'll post more later, ask me questions about the originals if you want I obviously love them

The thing i wanted to say from the beginning is that I too feel the New games have lost all that humor that made the originals to great

AND YES I have played most of the new ones too, Fallout Tactics, Fallout Brotherhood of steel, Fallout 3, NOT NV yet but I will be starting it in a few days....

And Sky valley gets it :-)

I also like the game for how classy it is. Something about the dark grittyness and uber violence mixed in with the seemingly innocent 1950's suburban life is something I can appreciate. But the 50's did have a depressing overshadowing apocalyptic overtone to it. And that's also a major theme of the game.

not only a perfect series, but I enjoy the mood of it too. It's one of the more smarter games out there in the industry

I started with Fallout 3 and after I was done with it (and that took a very long time), I downloaded Fallout 1 and 2.
You see, I was used to First person shooter elements of F3.
Not a top down.. or top down-ish style RPG.
And I thought it was bull shit how I had to use VATS just to move.
I got about 30 minutes into Fallout 1 and like 10 minutes in Fallout 2.
:I I just couldn't get into them.

The Lonesome Road Trailer.. the "last" DLC. (AGE-RESTRICTED)
There are two gun packs after Lonesome Road, though.
Lonesome Road will be $9.99 or 800 MS Points.
Courier's Stash will be 160 MS Points or $2.00 and this will include all pre-order items in one bundle.
Gun Runner's Arsenal will be 320 MS Points or $4.00 and increases the range of unique weapons, weapon mods, ammo types and recipes waiting to be uncovered in the vast Mojave Wasteland.

Damn, bro. I love Fallout.
I know Fallout: New Vegas gets a bad rap, but I thought it was amazing. I loved it.

Every time I make a character though. I always get Stealth, Speech and Energy Weapons. Then start going into Explosives, Barter and Melee Weapons. It's weird, but it works out.

Love being a cannibal, too. So much fun. Great if you play on Hardcore mode and nothing else like I do. Plus! It saves on stimpacks, bro.

 I love all things Fallout, I'm a crazy fanboy about it, as much if not more than Mortal Kombat.
Making my character, I go with clean shaven, tunnel snake haircut.
I like to keep a silenced 10mm on me at all times, as well.
I get my medicine, lockpick, speech, and guns up to 100 first, anything else is extra.
I'd rather talk things out then blow someone's head off.. But I'll kill you if I have to.

BUT, I did go with the Cannibal perk once in Fallout 3
It was crazy for me lol.
But with my medicine so high, 100 stimpacks can last me forever.

Depends on your preference. If you like a more desolate, isolated feel; Go for Fallout 3. If you like the lively political struggle between opposing powers and the cut-throat appeal; Stick with New Vegas.

Step 1 - free butch's mom from the room

Step 2 - blow her ****ing brains out right in front of him

Step 3 - have a nice day

also, I really wish you could kill Amata. Even if you are good and come back and rescue the vault, she still banishes you. that hoe can die

I remember dangling Butch's mom's severed head in front of him and then killing him shortly after. I would then dispose of their decapitated heads in the nearest toilet and waltz right out of the vault like a boss.
