This game blows.

cool story bro.. stopped reading where you called combos tyler lantern though..

What? What are you trying to say, exactly? I'm sorry that I don't like the fact that there's 70% combos in this game. NO character(aside from a boss) should be able to do that much damage with 1 combo. Besides, TL's vids get more or less the most views. So that's where most people learn their combos.

/cry.......

VERY constructive, bud. Really. Thanks for the input. I was completely happy with the feedback from the forum until you showed up.

Edit : Let me take this time to address the "less disappointed with Mortal Kombat : Armageddon " comment. I didn't by any means say it was a better game, or even a GOOD game, because it's absolutely not. Mk9 is a great game in it's own right, but it hasn't lived up to everything Boon and the team have made it out to be. They lied about plenty of things within the game, and plenty of problems still remain. With Armageddon, I knew NOTHING about competitive fighting games, I was in it all for the story and I didn't have really high expectations for it. So that's why it was less of a DISAPPOINTMENT. /end.

I don't understand what you expected. All fighting games have a mostly weak player base and high damaging combos. I'm not sure why you're complaining about spamming. If these guys are a threat to you then you need to level up your game. If not then don't play them. You have to specifically play other good players and participate in offline tournaments. You cannot expect smart play from playing randoms in any game. Cyrax's combo damage is exceptional but he's still not broken.

It sounds like you wanted to be good, you're not, and you're not willing to put in the work to become good.

Not trying to sound rude or anything, but combos like that are not just 'in the game'. People spend hours training and practising to discover these combos. Also the execution of such combos requires good skill, strict timing and also considering the input lag while playing online. In other words saying that you are not happy with the combos is essentially like saying you not happy with the fact that there are people who are more skilled and better than you. I know combos are not everything but they do play an integral factor. Give it a small break, practice consistently in the dojo, also since not all of us can dedicate so many hours to the game, there is nothing wrong from learning from those who can. :)

LOL please. You didn't read my post very well did you? Here, let me provide a refresher :

Almost everyone I have fought either picks Scorpion, Smoke or Raiden (or just counter picks to who I pick),and spams some ******** at me(no, I'm not pissed off because it "works" because just about 80% of the time, it does NOT work)

I don't have problems with spammers, but when a good 90% of the people you fight just spam at you , it gets TIRESOME. The lag doesn't always make avoiding it easy either. As good as I am, I can still get taken out by spammers because of the undependable connections. I've put in PLENTY of time with this game, over 2 days and over 1000 wins with my main alone and plenty more time with other characters. I know I'm good at this game, the community is what pisses me off. It's hard NOT to fight someone who spams or exploits when more than half of the people playing are only there to do just that. I can't just know by looking at their name. Records can be completely deceiving. And how is Cyrax not broken or unbalanced? I don't know any other characters that have combos and traps like that. 70% is just WAYYY too much damage for anyone to be dishing out.

My point is that it SHOULDN'T be there. Yeah high 30s - 40% damage combos are cool. But 70?! That's just ****ing stupid. It has nothing to do with my skill. I could care less. But when you're promised a balanced game and you get characters that can do stupid shit like that, it's frustrating. And I never said it was wrong to learn from those that can, I just stated that's where most people DO learn from.

Counter picking. What's the problem? You have blind character select. If you only play one character then it's something you have to accept. You cannot blame the opponent, the game starts at the select screen. You have to deal with working through bad matchups. Who do you play btw?

Exploiting Kung Lao. KL is the best character in MK. He isn't overly strong though. In fact in the context of top characters in fighting games he's rather mild. There's a reason he isn't dominating tournament play. He's not so good a bad player should beat you.

If you want to be good you have to move past this scrub mentality of being mad because your opponent plays in a way you don't like. Especially when your complaints are normal for fighting games

I agree, beat the spammers and the counter pickers. Learn to adapt to whatever they throw at you. This game requires patience, if you dont have it, dont play it.

I play Johnny Cage.
Kung Lao isn't dominating tourneys? He won the PDP tourney and EVO. I'd say he's doing alright for himself. Besides, I don't have problems fighting him, I'm so used to fighting him by now that I could care less. I used him as an example because EVERYONE picks him.
You're only focusing on one part of my whole post. I could care less if I lose, but when I do and after I do I see some dickhole in the chatroom spamming "OHHH I BEET U U SUK DIKZ BRO", I find it hard not to get just a tad agitated. It's just a horrible environment altogether. I just don't want to be a part of the online community for the most part.

Look, the game is GREAT offline. Aside from a few balancing issues, it's great. But there's no one around here to play with at all, and my friends don't really bother trying to learn the game so I have to turn to online or not playing the game at all. And I don't want to NOT play it. It's really a love/hate type of relationship we have going on. I love playing the game, but I hate the online, and the only place I can play is with the shitty pc and not better myself, or with the shitty community online and get agitated with the game and society in general. .

If he was OP he would be winning tournaments. End of story. The average Cyrax player won't run a combo over 40 or 50%.. If you are just tired of the game move on and stop whining. Send your concerns to NRS if it bothers you that much.

I'm not gonna sit here and argue this with you. Every Cyrax I've fought has been able to do that 70% combo. I get that he's your main and your gonna sit here and defend him, but NO one should be able to do 70%. Regardless of how unlikely you may or may not think it is. No, I'm not exaggerating. Oh send my concerns to NRS? Because I'm sure they'll hear me out.

I don't know what spamming you're talking about because spam is such a vague, meaningless term. Because I play a heavy zoning game with Kitana I constantly get hate mail from people calling me a spammer. Obviously that's ridiculous. If you're like this and you can't tolerate people using their best tools repeatedly then you can't be good. I don't know if that's you but regardless, I addressed it. You have to stop playing randoms. You have to seek out good competition.

I'm also not sure what exploits you're referring to, besides Cyrax's resets.

Cyrax isn't broken because you have breaker, his resets cost meter, and he has to hit you with a net first. There are several characters who can zone him out. There are several who's rushdown is good enough they can blow him up once they get in. He's very strong but having super high combo damage isn't enough to break him. Why do you think he isn't dominating the tournament scene?

He's also losing the reset in an upcoming patch.

Kung Lao has won 3 big tournaments(two of them Perfect Legend). Plenty of characters win or appear in top 8s. At Evo there was one Kung Lao in top 8. There were IIRC 3 Kung Lao's in top 32. The supposedly broken Cyrax didn't show up until Reo made a desperation switch in the last match. I believe that was the only Cyrax in top 32. Compare the character variety in MK top 8 results with almost any fighting game. MK comes off well.

I know the difference, bud. I play the game enough. Zoners mix it up a little. They know what to do when rushed. Spammers just do the same shit consistently. I know which characters are supposed to be keep-away and which aren't.

Obviously that's ridiculous. If you're like this and you can't tolerate people using their best tools repeatedly then you can't be good.

Lol I love you how keep subtly insulting my knowledge of the mechanics of this game. No, I don't send hate mail to people. That's one of my problems with this community. Chatroom hate and hate mail in general.

I don't know if that's you but regardless, I addressed it. You have to stop playing randoms. You have to seek out good competition.

That's not always an option. That's why I'm done with this game.

I don't see how not, but that's just me. Besides, breakers aren't always an option. I'm sick and tired of that being an excuse for extreme damage combos. Say I use a breaker, then end up caught in the same 70% string. I'm ****ed.

Why do you think he isn't dominating the tournament scene?

Because it's harder to land these combos when your dash blocks aren't mucked up by latency.

He's also losing the reset in an upcoming patch.

It's about time.

You're not going to play any game were people aren't obnoxious. Again, you have to play good comp. Go to the TYM lobbies and look for people with 3/4 bar connections. If they're good add them to your friends list. Go to TYM and find players on the West Coast to add to your list. I have a list built up were I can almost always play with somebody good at any time of day.

Almost nobody has a strong offline scene. You have to travel. I live in central Illinois. I got NOBODY. Driving 3 hours to Chicago is my idea of local comp. I still manage to attend a tournament every few weeks, either driving or flying.

You have to make a commitment to be good and play good players. There is no fighting game were you can just play randoms.

Thanks for the suggestions, dude. And you're right, I don't make much of a commitment to find actual good players. That's my only problem, and it's just pure laziness. I don't feel like I should have to. But this is my first foray into the actual competitive fighting game scene, so forgive my shortcomings when it comes to looking for actual good competition.

I don't care who I play, noobs, amazing players, or just dicks, you can always take some form of adaptive knowledge to improve your game play. Why are you hanging out in chat rooms any ways, if you are it should only be TRMK *never up* or TYM which is usually up atleast a 1/3 of the day with 7-14 people.

I was talking to treadmill and he stated it perfectly, it's more important to be able to recognize opponents kombos rather than being able to do kombos. If you know where to block or space yourself your opponent won't be able to pull of jack shit. Breakers are the most important thing in the game! If you slip up and get caught in a kombo and your able to recognize their bread and butter for their 35%+ kombo then you better use that breaker or make sure they have good timing and are able to pull it off so it's not a huge waste of a breaker. DON'T WASTE THE METER ON STUPID CRAP. If you are able to recognize these tyler lantern kombos then YOU need to be able to time your breaker accordingly.

The time being I only use jax, I love his power, but it's a ***** fighting zoners esp kanos knife, BUT you have to be smart and just dash in and block rinse and repeat, BUT you can also use ex dash punch to go through the projectile and start your rush down. So it's all about being smart and using your meter and blocking!

BTW Jax has a full bar 77% corner kombo but you have to consider is it worth using a full bar against x opponent?

You can insult the online community of this game all you want, but as I've said before in other posts complaining about the same thing, the online community in games sucks... period. Until they institute a law that allows you to find someone's address easily, to call them out and go and beat the crap out of them without legal repercussions the online community for every game ever made will suck and continue to do so. As you said, internet anonymity makes monsters of mortal men. I've been gaming for god knows how long and the online community for this game doesn't suck any more or less than it did for CoD, Gears of War, Resistance, basically any game that allows you voice chat, messaging or chat room capabilities. It will ALWAYS be this way. People are aholes, or immature, or think their hilarious when they're annoying. If you hate it, the only way to avoid it is to not play online.

What the others have said is true as well, I know several very good offline players. Also any time I have excellent high end matches with someone with whom i have a good/great connection with I actively try to put them on friends list and play them often if their willing. I have several players on my list now and we have great matches all the time. Doesn't change the fact though that the online is flawed, will be flawed and filled with types of players you hate to play against. If you hate it fine, just don't rant about it.

On Topic: Quit crying and either practice and get better at the game or go play something else.

Do people not understand that Viking Poodle could be the best player in the world but what he hates is the online community? Him and people like me don't enjoy dominating over pricks and spammers and losers.
