I think DLC is a failure

I know, he thinks people make fun of Boon too much, has he ever even heard of Gabe Newell?

that guy gives out so much more free stuff than boon, yet all the fans do is make fun of him

That's hilarious though, and I'm pretty sure the GabeN knows it's all in good fun.

If he didn't have us weighting so long for Ep 3, I'm sure it would all blow over....

IMO the only "fail" part of the DLC was charging for stuff that was already on the disc (MK1 costumes). Other than that it's fine so far, just be patient :) If we keep gobbling up the DLC they will keep releasing it, just look at Borderlands...

That's true, but I strongly think that, they had to do it in order to justify the pre-orders. Assuming that if they didn't do that, then the customers who pre-ordered the games probably wouldn't pre-order again because then they would think "why even pre-order if you are going to get the costumes anyways later on?". Therefore in order to assure that the pre-orderers are happy they charged all costumes for a rather small fee.

7 costumes for 5$, which were pre-order exclusives, think about it, sometimes pre-order exclusives aren't going to be released at all, therefore the charging was somehow reasonable. But of course the costumes were already content on the disc and therefore they charged people for something they already should have access from the being with. It's clear, that this had upset many people and I really think that the classic skins on the compatibility pack were a kind of retribution from NRS's side to pour oil on troubled water.

If you see it this way then it's understandable why they chose the ninja costumes additionally to the presumption that the chosen classic skins in the compatibility packs were used as a promotional material.

Of course it's impossible to appease and satisfy every person, because nothing is so hard as man's ingratitude. But leaving this aside I am very happy for the outcome of the classics (for now, I am still hoping for more though. Nevertheless I am very thankful for every classic costume they give us, be it free or not!)

That's a word! If the sales rates are increasing then the probability for more DLC will also rise. I won't be saying that this is a linear dependency because it's hard or even impossible to quantify man's motivation but looking at other things will tell you that money was always a motor for motivation :)

Agreed 100%.
Sure, they shouldn't have charged for something that was already on the disc, but I can also see why they did it, to please the Pre-Orders and retailers.
Mainly the retailers (GameStop, Amazon and Best Buy).

NRS hasn't failed yet. Failing would be adding guest characters as DLC...or refusing to add any more content past this next character. Keep releasing new characters / costumes until we stop paying for them - and classic fatalities would be nice as well.

Okay that's just ridiculous logic.

A. The one guest character we have so far was actually pretty popular (unfortunately).
B. At some point they HAVE to stop releasing DLC so they can move on the next game. A new game would make more money than DLC. NRS has money to make. This is their job.

Actually making DLC doesn't take the effort of all members of DLC. If NRS is smart, and I think it is, it will assign 3-4 members to do DLC and the rest will work on new games. Only the intervals in which DLC will be released will be prolonged. Just my thoughts ;)

Yeah but at some point they're gonna need the talent that is working on the DLC. lol I don't think we'll be getting DLC after December.

Of course your right about the needed talent ;)

Also december sound logical to me, although I had next years april in mind (but that was more wishful thinking :) ). For now we can only wait to see any official statements about this topic the rest will be just wild speculation and hopes but hope dies last.

DLC in of itself isn't a failure, how could it be? It's a great business move and the companies earn extra money. But Freddy Krueger in my MK? THAT was a failure. :( :( :(

Definately not a failure, even with freddy four characters and... what? 15 costumes in 3 MOnths is quite agressive for a game. I just hope we see more.

I rage posted this in another thread that got buried in the massive one.. ya that's cool..

but didn't he only have one hand with claws in the movies? I think they got confused and put a crisp holiday edition Edward Scissor Hands in.

DLC that is not MK related is a failure in my eyes.

Actually, the pre-order bonuses were sold as early-access. Getting to play as your favorite character in their MK1 (or MK3 for females) outfit and have their klassic fatality (where applicable) two months before everyone else should have been more than enough of a reason to pre-order.
