DLC - NRS getting lazy with quality/details?

I'm not sure what to think of DLC at this point. I like Skarlet, even if a little over-hyped, and the "klassic" skins/fatalities are fun to have. However, I noticed many glitches with each DLC release.

Mileena's "Be Mine" fatality, when using the MK3 skin, if she has blood on her face from battle, it'll disappear when she removes her mask. There is also no gore when she's chewing on the face, nor blood on her face when she is done.

Babalities performed on players using klassic ninja skins (more so the males than females): The colors get all out of sorts for the baby model randomly.

When fighting on the Coliseum arena (aka Khan's Arena) using Skarlet and Kitana, no one is chained up on either side of Kahn; normally Tanya is chained up where Kitana would be (on the right) on any other match.

The Nekropolis: No slots for DLC characters so we can see their bio/ending when we want?

Skarlet has no alternate costume? Really...

Intos: Very few on the roster are "mute" (aka don't have a "battle cry"), I think Kano is the only one (he grunts) unless you count Reptile who by default probably can't/won't speak. Skarlet just grunts and given Kenshi's trailer, it appears he doesn't say anything either.

MK (2011) is the MK game I have waited almost 20 years to play and overall it's an amazing game on every level that impresses. I just feel that they are pushing DLC out so fast due to the potential profits, that it's not being given it's due on the quality check front.

I get the feeling that the profit margins of DLC is more important than making sure the DLC is of as high caliber as the game itself. Am I over analyzing this and/or expecting too much for paid content?

You've got many major points. I think maybe Rain will have a voice but I am very koncerned as to why Skarlet had no alternate. If she doesn't, Kenshi and Rain won't. I really wanted them two guys to hae kostumes because they look kool but they might look kooler.

Your not expecting too much for your content. I think those things will be ironed out in the future with patches. I would imagine right now they are making sure the characters are balanced out gameplay wise. I agree, the glitches should have been fixed before release, but in today's video game world they can just patch those fixes later and like I said earlier, they are prolly more focused on balancing the new characters so they can be used in tournaments and stuff, even though right now I don't think they can be used in tourneys.

They prolly don't think the battle cry is that important since people tend to just skip over them.

I think it's fitting for Skarlet and Kenshi not to talk during their intros, considering their personalities. I'm sure Rain speaks in his intro.

But, I too, am concerned about the lack of an alternate costume for Skarlet (although it was created and we all know what it is, it didn't come with her, because it was unfinished but the problem is we don't know if they'll ever release it or patch it in) and being unable to view Skarlet's bio and ending in the Nekropolis. I hope this isn't the case with Kenshi, Rain and the 4th DLC character.

yep, they are releasing DLC, but, not integrating the content 100% totally with the game, the lack of :

- Alternate costume
- Spot in Nekropolis, for quick view in Ending and Model Viewer
- Stats in order to master a DLC character

IMO, this has no excuses and shows lack of compromise coming from NRS, in order to deliver a 100% approved final product. Disappointing

Sure that Skarlet, despite lacking those points above, is full playable, has 2 fatalities, stage fatality, babality , full move set and combos, and even an Ladder Ending, but, I ask :

"How much extra effort you, NRS, could have done in order to give us Skarlet, and, probably , Kenshi, with all stuff we have right to claim, as all the others characters ? Do you care about us, fans, complaining now with reason , about these lack of details ? Or all you care is about money ?"

I hope this shit is fixed in a patch coming soon.

If you think about it, NRS... or 'Boon and Buddies' as I like to think of them, have always been kinda half-assed about most everything they created up until now. It's for this reason the Mortal Kombat brand was given up on by so many gamers. We have to remember that it is a SHOCKING CHANGE to see this dedication to creating a competent fighter. I am thankful they have gone the extra mile, but NRS will always take the shortest route to get from point A to point B. Case in point... every Fatality, while some are very creative, use either the x-ray or slice point system. Nothing original. They didn't even take the time to animate intestines uncoiling in Skarlet's 'Make it Rain' Fatality.

Cyborgs don't wear clothes. Why do you think Sektor's and Cyrax's alts are their human forms?

They could have at least given an alternate cyborg look or hell even a different color scheme. I don't think he was wondering why Cyber-sub wasn't given an alt wearing a Hollister shirt and skinny jeans with Converse sneakers. :-D

Why do people care about aesthetics so damn much? Does the DLC character work? Yes. Do the costumes work? Yes. Are they worth $5? Yes.

There's always gonna be minor bugs. Visually are they annoying? Sometimes, but nothing too crazy where it takes away from the game.

skarlet has a alt costume, she was unlockable during an glitch before she became available during DLC (yes the model was on the disc, she had a cameo in the story mode afterall, her moves and fatalities were absent as far as i know) you can look up on youtube and find a necropolis glitch showing it off. i have no idea why it isn't already unlocked though.

But Sub-Zero's color is blue, though; lol, do you honestly want a green or a black Cyber Subby? And why would they change up his cyborg look? Do you want him to be a fat Cyber Subby, too?

They could give him a "what-if?" klassic MK3 cyborg outfit, though, only with a palette swap of light blue.

Cyber Sub-Zero doesn't have an alternate costume.

Well, the fact CSZ has not alternate costume, for me, is one of the flaws in this game ..... what the hell they can do it for anyone, damn it, even Kratos who is just a guest , has his own alternate costume, while CSZ cannot have it WTF ?

CSZ, IMO, is a statement about how much NRS can be lazy sometimes, and , they think we are all stupid naive kids ..... it's obvious, that they did not want to work in CSZ alternate since the beggining, never had intention ..... and , CSZ Ladder Ending, IMO, is a pure shit done in the last minute, in order to him to have at least a Ladder ending, a very lazy one, than having nothing ..... so, NRS did not feel obligated to do an alternate costume to him .....

They are think even worse way for DLC, since, CSZ at least has his ending and stats , avaliable in his own Nekropolis spot, thanks God for that ! But for DLC, seems that they feel they have obligation only to make the character, but, without worrying about all details that all others have ......... damn, I probably have 10 hours of gameplay with Skarlet in one week, and , I can't check it out that in Nekropolis !! lol !!

They think that us, fans, can be 100% satisfied and accept, smiling, all these flaws, some minor, some serious / severe. OMG !!

I support Skarlet, and I will support Kenshi and Rain , all of them DLC, but, I don't support the lack of compromise that NRS is doing, this is unacceptable. So , I will buy all DLC content, but this does not change the fact that they (NRS) are lacking respect about us, MK 2011 customers / clients / fans / supporters.

Though I completely agree with you that aesthetics should not be the primary concern for playing a great game, they are and always will be the secondary attraction. When you love a character in Mortal Kombat and have played a thousand matches using said character, you're eyes and imagination tire of seeing the same 'ol thing. Hence the love of alternate costumes. This love of aesthetics is actually a major driving force behind many games such as MMOs. Technically we could all be playing as Boon's stick figures as long as the gameplay was intact, but where some are auditory driven, many are predominantly visually-driven and love to SEE many flavors of their favorite characters.

* Le Sigh * I was going to give an elaborate rebuttal, then realized you have zero imagination.

There's a few more issues with the MK3 Mileena than just the "Be Mine" fatality, the mask (or veil, to some) doesn't come down during her tag exit nor the Leaping Neckbite attack or the enhanced variation. During some levels, the costume looks washed out and faded.

The issue with Skarlet vs Kitana in the Kahn's Coliseum level isn't that no one replaces them (if anything that's a plus!) - the issue is that Kitana's chains are still there unlike where Skarlet had been.

The lack of voice intros for DLC characters could be due to the characters personality, IMO, they wouldn't suit Skarlet or Kenshi. We'll see if the trend continues with Rain (who probably should speak, as a general to Shao Kahn) and the mystery fourth character.

Skarlet's alternate, eh... I'll take it or leave it at this point, we know it was there at some point and NRS scrapped it but as stated already, Cyber Sub-Zero doesn't have an alternate; I'm doubtful Kenshi, Rain, or ??? will either so she isn't alone.

The Nekropolis slots, you definitely have point with and it's what a good 70% of users think as well... while the other 30% just doesn't give a sh*t.

You are 100% right with everything you said.
But one thing, and I'm not sure about it, but i think (more like hope) that in one of the next patches NRS will add Alternative Costumes to the DLC's (for whoever bought them ofcourse)...

Yes and no. I think the problem there was not "Boon and company" per sé, but Midway. I remember reading about how WB was giving them ample time to get this MK right. Midway had a cash cow and wanted new MK games every two years, if not yearly it seemed. Midway was dying and using MK as a crutch to try to save itself; make "a" game, slap on the name "Mortal Kombat" and logo, and it'll be a raging success seemed to be Midway's mentality.

Well, not really as evidenced with all MK fighting games after UMK3 (and even then that's a stretch considering how badly balanced that game is). MK DA and MK Deception weren't bad, but not stellar either.

MK vs DC was the turning point. Say what you will, it was a markedly better game quality-wise (forget the lack of gore, online issues etc) than say, MK Armageddon. WB saw the value in MK and knew it could still be a success if under the right management and used MK vs DC as a test bed on what "could" become of the franchise in terms of quality.

I just feel that DLC should be better tested than what it has been given the fact that it's not like DLC was an impromptu idea post-release of the game. Heck, the retro skins, Skarlet, and Kenshi were announced before the game was even released.

Yes, glitches happen even if they are not game-play-affecting, but considering the massive hype behind DLC and rousing success of this game, one would think these bugs would be kept to a discrete minimum or at least patched relatively quickly.

However, since it took over two months to get the game semi-playable online (I love de-sync errors!), I'm not holding my breath on patching any DLC issues unless they are a massive failure. Maybe I am really expecting way too much and am way too nit-picky...
