Sub-Zero Thread - "Feel Death's Cold Embrace!"

Re: Sub-Zero Thread - "Feel the Cold Embrace of Death"

Np! ..I just thought so (; ..soo u still think b21 is faster than 22? (do u have any framerate-data?) ..

I like to use b12 when they are lying on the ground and finish with 4 if blocking high or 1xxclone if they certainly block down.

I do not have framerate data. But there is no way the first hit of B12 isn't just as fast as the first hit of 22. It comes out without delay, and it's the front hand as opposed to the back hand. I am sticking with that.

However, it doesn't matter, because I am ditching B12 altogether. Aside from combo uses. The first hit is fast and I have no problems with it. The second hit, however, is ridiculously slow. So slow, it's punishable mid-string. And yes, it's an overhead, but no decent player is going to duck an overhead that slow. Playing against experienced people has enlightened me regarding the B12 vs 22 issue tonight. It's just an inefficient string. And I would not use it against anyone in open play. Not when they're jumping, not when they're standing, not when they're on the ground. It hurts to admit it, because I love the aesthetics of the ice pick, but Tom Brady was right.

Good choice, man. Good choice. Check out Fox17's guide at the beginning of the thread. And check out the guide in my sig when you get more comfortable with Sub-Zero.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here.

Welcome to TRMK!

I know it seems like the 2 of B12 is whiffing, but your problem is most likely occurring somewhere between F dash and B1. What is happening is that, after the NJP, you are not getting there fast enough so the opponent is too far on their way down. I find it works better if you utilize these 2 tips:

1) Remember, you do not have to be on the ground to begin your F dash. Press FF while you are still in the air, immediately after your NJP connects.

2) Concentrate on the inputs not as NJP - FF - B12 - 212 - Ice Slide, but instead as NJP - FFB - 12 - 212 - Ice Slide. The F dash immediately into B1 is tricky to press on a pad. If you concentrate on pressing FFB as an input by itself, you should execute it flawlessly.

Hope this helps.

Re: Sub-Zero Thread - "Feel the Cold Embrace of Death"

Kaballer explained it very well.

I had problems with it at the beggining but now i never fail doing that combo. Try and try and you will see that you will get better on it. My tip is that after NJP do a fast dash and then the B+1,2 when is going to stab the rival with the ice pick press 2,1,2 or 2,1,4. Hope it helps (you can see the video in the thread in the "Complex Combos" section to see how it is performed)

not "try dashing", u have to! its not njp,b12- its njp,dash,b12,212xxSlide

also it helps to keep the opponent as high as possible, imo. (Instant dash after the NJP)

so thats how I think I'm executing it: NJP -> -> <-,12 white until u see him bounce back up, 212(/4)xxSlide(/Xray)

Re: Sub-Zero Thread - "Feel the Cold Embrace of Death"

So I see you people talking about that combo. And I was wondering what % is it?

Re: Sub-Zero Thread - "Feel the Cold Embrace of Death"

~30%

just the combo = 29%

startercombo-freeze = about 30% does the same dmg as startercombo-freeze+JumpInPunch,214xxSlide

I somehow use it only for certain clone(frozen) punishment and in the corner.

Thanks I was thinking to myself I hope I did not just join a dead forum. I was like it looks active. I never was able to do the combo until I read this my accuracy is not high but at Least I can preform it on player 1 player 2 not at all. A few questions one does 212 slide or does 214 slide push you closer to the wall. Next the dash seems a little werid sometimes I am nailing it other times epic fail. Next is xyray interchangeable off 212 or 214 I know it always hits off 214 is it the same off 212 ?

Don't worry. TRMK is very much keeping the MK community alive.

You probably know this, but I'd like to clarify just in case. You cannot just choose between 212 and 214 interchangeably. You have to choose between two entirely different combos:

1) NJP - B12 - 212 - Ice Slide. Because NJP bounces the opponent, you have to use 212 as 214 will not connect.

2) JPS - 214 - Ice Slide. Because JPS does not bounce the opponent, 214 will connect.

Between those two combos, the first will actually push the opponent 1 dash length farther than the second. 1 dash length is not a game changer, but if you're a perfectionist with your play you would always go with the first combo when the opportunity arises.

Next the dash seems a little werid sometimes I am nailing it other times epic fail.

This is just something that comes with practice. Know that it is not up to chance. If done properly, this combo can be pulled off every single time. Go into training mode. Practice FFB, FFB, FFB like it's Stryker's gun and you're on the challenge with the 3 Shao Kahns.

Next is xyray interchangeable off 212 or 214 I know it always hits off 214 is it the same off 212 ?

Yes, it is the same off the 212 combo. In fact, the X-Ray is easier to hit off the 212 combo because you can just press it. You do not have to hold it like in the 214 combo.

But 2,1,4 Xray does more damage than 2,1,2 xray.

2,1,2 xray can be done just pressing the triggers at the same time but the xray after 2,1,4 has to be holded for like 0.25 seconds.

I love you guys no homo like the dash thing in the air makes it so much easier. The damage off the combo is not worth it into the xyray it gets scaled so much it only does 38% also the situational 214 only does 1% more. Freeze 214 xyray does more damage. Player 1 side your taking this combo player 2 feels so strange on my hands is there no better way to practice stuff on player 2 side besides jumping over them everytime?

Re: Sub-Zero Thread - "Feel the Cold Embrace of Death"

he is the sex? Cyrax says hello.....okay I'll go back to the cyrax thread now :)

Cyrax. Good memories. :D

Used to be my main entirely through April and March.

Exactly. The ideal thing to do when you have a full meter is JPS - 22 - Ice Ball - JPS - 214 - X-Ray for 49% damage.

212 into X-Ray would only apply if the opponent is frozen in the air due to an Ice Clone or an Ice Ball punish. Feel free to check out the guide in my sig to see the best possible combos you can do in every situation.

Player 1 side your taking this combo player 2 feels so strange on my hands is there no better way to practice stuff on player 2 side besides jumping over them everytime?

You can set the AI in training mode to Human. Then simply use your second controller to control player 2 and practice your combos on player 1.

Okay I have figured out how to do the combo. The most helpful thing was that airdash ounce you get practice for consistency. I am thinking of writing a detailed explanation on how to do it. Step by step I found much simpler method of performing it. What is jps ?

Re: Sub-Zero Thread - "Feel the Cold Embrace of Death"

my fav sub combo yet has to be jip, 2, 2, iceball, njp, f.dash, 2, 1, 2, 1, 4, (ex)slide

it can be hard to time but you get used to it like all things just takes practice... works with xray as well in place of slide

JPS means Jump in Starter, when jump punch is the first hit. <--- Thx to kaballer for explain me the semantic :)
