I guess I simply don't understand you argument. I can easily beat any special move spammer with good timing and knowledge of the moves' properties.
I just don't see how adding some 4, 3, 5 frame jabs with pushback would hurt this game or make it too deep for online? you know what other game relies on spamming specials and super moves instead of jabbing and throws and zoning? marvel 3. and i don't want to play Marvel Kombat, which is what it feels like now. pizzamasta, i'm not saying that you can't predict someone's next move, i'm just saying that it let's people off the hook too easy; it protects them. you shouldn't be able to just mash buttons and get something to happen, or just have every move be super fast and spammable. Every move except the command normals. Is it too much to ask that reptile or nightwolf or even my beloved jax have to wait at least 3 seconds before they can spam their next dash move? or is it too much to ask to have their speed toned down? what was wrong with umk3, where if you blocked a dashing reptile he would get stuck for a few frames? or why can't i jump over ermac's tk slam? or why can't i jump over sektor's flame without hitting an invisible wall that sucks me down into the flame? that stuff is stupid. scorpion's spear does the same thing. is it too much to ask of a player to learn some normal zoning tools to keep people out, instead of giving them broken specials with weird hitboxes? it's so frustrating when you can see that they don't want you be able to put on constant pressure. I know no one wants people to just sit and block the entire match, but no one wants to have to fight ADHD fighters who just run around the stage mashing inputs, getting results. that's not serious.
There's a line where good business ends, it's when you treat your customers like s--t. NRS may not be perfect, but I take their brand of good-natured goofing around better than the straight-laced bulls--t that passes for professionalism. NRS does what it does because they like interacting with the community.
You're joking, right? If NRS gave a damn, then the online lag would have been eliminated weeks ago. There's no excuse why we should still have online problems. Moreover, goofing around on Twitter (of all places) is not a shining example of interacting with the community. People can knock Capcom and Treyarch all they want, but they delivered on patches and DLC quickly. NRS finds it better to keep its fan base in the dark about it, which is unprofessional. To me, that is treating your customers like s--t.
Treating your customers like shit is showing commercials for DLC before your game is even out (MvC3)
Is stripping your game to bare bones and charging for the meat (MvC3)
Is leaving out popular characters so fans can buy them later (MvC3)
The game itself is fantastic. I'm only disappointed in NRS. They don't tell the fans anything concrete. Some people call it "playing" around with fans; I call it lying, unprofessional and unwarranted. Capcom and Treyarch don't "play" around with fans, so why should NRS? Moreover, it's been over a month since MK's release, and they still haven't fixed the online lag issues. There's no excuse for that. NRS are amongst the most unprofessional development teams in gaming today.
The game lacks a lot of 2D fighting fundamentals IMO. And the dial-a-combo system really needs to go. MK9 is a large step in the right direction, but in a generation with SFIV, BB, and MvC3...MK9 sadly comes in 4th place IMO.
I love the combo system. I don't like SF4's hadoken spam online and just making your character do these awkward combos. Never played BB and MvC3 is so spam friendly. I have it and it's a great game but everyone is cheap and annoying, balancing out the whole game. MK9 definitely comes in first to me. MvC3 second. Then SFIV. I have to try out BB
The problem with the combo system is that you cannot change, adapt, or drop the combo once it has been initiated. And because of this, mix-ups are pretty much nonexistent.

You guys just don't know what making a game is like.
