Things you are glad Mortal Kombat doesn't have from other fighting games.

I'm glad MK doesn't have over the top comical endings like dead or alive's granted there has been some comical endings butnothin over the top and DOA and their insane breast fetish

I'm just mainly happy that they don't use those stupid flashy colors when someone is punched. They substitute that with blood. :)

But the biggest thing is when fighters say their move names. I find it very stupid and corny.

Although it'd be hilarious hearing Sektor say ROCKETS! or Sonya saying KISS OF DEATH! At least if Scorpion said "SPEAR", it would rhyme with "GET OVER HERE"...but I'm still glad all that's not in MK.

1. No K.O.s (with the exception of MK vs. DC)
2. No back = block shit
3. No multiple languages
4. No yelling out of move names
5. No lack of blood
6. No stupid customizable crap for characters
7. No ring outs

All I can think about as of now, more things will be added later maybe.

I remember that you can block in a few of them, and the so do yell. Well, they might not yell the names of their attacks, but still they yell.

I don't really think this counts as multiple languages but, Bo Rai Cho's name is derived from the spanish word Boracho, and the yells of some of the characters are I think are supposed to be chinese/japanese like.

MK vs DC had a lot of lack of blood. If not blood, then definately gore! Thank god they're redeeming themselves with MK9.

MKA had a character customization thing (Kreate a Kharacter).

TBH I wouldn't mind character customization as long as the items are not completely ridiculous and fit the personality of the character in question.

1. Not being able to completely finish off your character. Mortal Kombat has fatalities for this.
2. The cheezy lines before you fight like in Street Fighter.
3. The comic book like structure. Kind of kiddy some times.
- Mortal Kombat is more violent, bloody, and dark compared to any other fighting game I enjoyed playing.
4. The slowness compared to Mortal Kombat's combos and speed.

Only two things really come too mind:
1) They don't say move names. That's why I could never get into DBZ(anime) and SF, it was all kamaya and spirit bomb and hadoken what not. It pulls you out of the fight.
2) The characters are serious for the most part. There have been a couple joke characters (Mokap comes to mind) but nothing like that fat dude in SF who spins his way across the map.

Oh man, where do I start?

-I'm really glad they don't call out move names. Always found it lame. Sure, yell something out when you're throwing a strong move, but don't say it before the move gets there. lol
-It's always been super accessible. One of the things I've never liked about most games (Tekken aside... Love Tekken) is that in order to do ANYTHING cool you have to have put in tons of dedication. In mk they give you the ability to do something cool right off the bat, but they make you work up to the 50-60% combos that are so popular on youtube.
-Variety. Mk imo has always had the most variety when it comes to gameplay, mk has always stood out to me as having more game modes and more interesting characters. SF characters all kinda blend in to me. Sorry if this opinion offends you. But it's just my skewed viewpoint.
-The devs don't EVER talk shit about other fighting games. They always have nice things to say about SF, Tekken, etc. But you never hear them say anything nice about them. They've had their rough spots, but to say that the whole fight is to just lead up to the fatality is absolute bull shit.

Something I do like about mk that is in other fighting games.
-Jokes. One thing that I've always loved about mk and other fighting games were there abilities to not take them selves too seriously. I loved the friendships and babilities, because in a world where everything is dark and you're constantly tearing foes limb from limb.. To finish someone off by giving them an action figure is pretty funny.

Easy specials, SF and MVC specials are just stupid to get when you're being introduced into the series.
Very low learning curve, MK has such super accessibility, it's not even funny.
Blood, uppercuts can potentially cause brain damage, of course some punches will cause blood, why other mainstream fighters haven't heavily introduced this is beyond me.

I'm glad about the heavy, heavy importance placed on entertainment and presentation which even Yoshinori Ono has complimented.

Only thing Mk doesn't have for me is Eddy Gordo.

...I must have read the thread title wrong.

Oh well i'll leave the original post:
What i'm glad MK doesn't have: Saying names for attacks, all specials being quarter and half turns rather than just taps, elitists... that's about it.

I'm just glad it doesn't have really corny joke characters like Tekken.

Joke characters give variety to the game, MK is KNOWN for joke characters.....
that being said i love the dialogue, an example would be tekken,

Jin Kazama speaks Japanese, nothing else, just pure Japanese. his former right hand man Eddie Gordo, although he is Portuguese or Brazilian, speaks English, just pure English, neither speaks the others language, YET they are still able to communicate using their native tongue......... it pissed me off you read subtitles for half of the game and understand the other language. it was just horrible

Eddy's always spoken English though, he's fine without speaking Portuguese. Although in TTT2 they added Portuguese for him and Christie. Sorry for the off topic post.

as someone who likes and plays almost all fighters for what they do individually. the one thing i like about mk is it does its own thing. everything about it is original. you cant say "hey! that dude is a total ryu ripoff!"

there are a couple of things that i'm glad mk doesn't have mainly devil jin and kasumi. i hate these character guts.

I'm also glad they don't have the same game play mechanic as the japanese fighting games.

unfortunately MK has one glaring commonality with the japanese fighters: the japanese dude is always the toughest. scorpion is always the best.
