Smokes apperance...

Yes its ANOTHER smoke thread, however it does have a little twist and its not just about his hair.

Im just wondering why the MK team are so reluctant to talk about or show smoke. I think they probably want to hold back some info from the game, but what info. We all know he has long grey hair so heres my theory:

That he has smoke bubbles around him like in MK2, persoanlly i would love this and would think that it would be a very plauseable reason for not showing any gameplay from him yet.

Also a lot of people are dissopointed with smokes current apperance, me being one of them. Im not overly pissed about it just think that after all the other characters turning out amazing , his long hair just makes him look odd and i dont like it. So alot of people are banking on him having an alternated costume of a more hooded ninja outfit, or even a calssic outfit.

So after seeing the new cage video on the homepage, we see that a grey classic ninja does indeed seem to be a "generic" ninja and not a classic smoke costume. So does this mean smoke doesnt have a classic costume? Or does it mean he will look the same as the "generic" ninjas? Or does it mean (like stated above) that his classic costume will have smoke bubbles around it ? so he doesnt look the same as the generics.

Im rather hoping that the Smoke bubbles like in MK2 is true and it would make me a happy panda.

all players have their classic ones I think, some of them even have more than one classic. Smoke's will be exactly what you saw in the Subzero vs Scorpion video only in grey color. other than that, he'll also have one more alt besides the retro one. I prefer a hooded one too btw. as for the appearance, his select screen image is fugly BUT, it's like that for a few more players and in-game EVERYONE looks terrific. his render alone made things a whoooooole lot better so.. you should wait for an in-game video for a final judgement. about the not showing part.. I guess it's because he's always been so secretive and this time around they paid attention to him, both story-wise and his looks so.. yeah

I love Smoke's armored tunic, and the long hair wouldn't bother me one bit if it weren't held back with so much frigging wax.
 
Jax alternate costume that i saw in this one video posted somewhere on the forum section doesn't prove to be a classic alternate costume. he doesn't have the flat top with the black pants....although the only thing thats classic about his alternate costume was that he did not have metallic arms, but he had a metallic vest. i think it'd be better if they didn't put the vest on him.
 
I was horrified about the first look of afro. Long hair however ... I can take it, I pity Smoke for having his hair in that hood before :)
The funny thing is a name, Tomas Vrbada.
I am czech and Tomáš is all right, but there is no Vrbada. Some Vrbatas may be, but Vrbada is ridiculous and funny.
 
He looks perfect. His hair fits him and his Smoke "theme" very well. And as I said on another thread. He finally looks somewhat elderly like he have to. He's like the Raiden (from MK) from the Ninjas side. And that's how he always had to look like, he was always a "godly" version of the Ninjas, so it makes no sense to leave him like every Ninja is. He had to be different. And he finally is.

Also, I don't understand all the complain since there will be the Klassic costume that will make him look like the 'beloved Human Smoke'.
There's some character's that I hate the new look (Johnny Cage) and I'm not *****ing yet untill I see their Klassic costumes. And who knows if Smoke has some sick outfit on the krypt as well.
What I want the most is to see a video of his gameplay. That day is taking so long...
 
I'm quite surprised they went with the Christopher Walken look. That was unexpected.

^ hahaha damn you beat me to it! I loled at that. maybe ed DOES watch the forums after all. btw on the Smoke topic again, according to the newest leaks, his alt is a classic Lin Kuei outfit but doesn't look like the retro one. must be a killer one!
 
I think the look is interesting. Not my favorite, but it's pretty interesting. I'm eager to see what they do with Smoke in the story, seems like they have something big planned for him.

- Smoke's alt is his Lin Kuei uniform. But it doesn't look like retro ninja outfit.
His moves are full of special smoke effects. He throws smoke bomb under the enemy (it works like Noob's hole), he can perform teleport punch as Scorpion. X-ray seemingly connected with his teleport somehow. Possibly he can perform it only after teleport. Also he can evade projectiles with some specail effects.

I don't really like Smokes new look, I was won over a little bit by the character design art from the Spanish tournament. But I think he should look more ninja-y, instead of some cyber-punk on his way to a rave. I was kind of hoping he was going to be Japanese, and have some connection to Scorpion, but now that he is Czech, I'm glade they didn't make him blonde. Anyways, I'm looking forward to seeing his alt, hopefully it is like his MK:SM costume, and hopefully we can get a DLC that had a spear, or as I have been lobbying a Kusari-gama.

i also think Smoke looks AWESOME I like his new look and I am eagerly anticipating his gameplay video. I like his long silver hair he looks so sweet. And the new ninja outift with the metal steel inserts looks tight. Good job NRS on making a sweet looking and distiquishable ninja. Its awesome that all the ninja are finally unique in there own way.
 
He is pretty good in MK 2011 .... once the game is released, and everyone pay attention in his bio and ending, everybody will realize the true reason and why NRS decided to radically change Smoke's apperance, to make him fit the new reality of who he is in fact ..... Smoke is a badass in the game, and he even has an own chapter dedicated only to him in story. I understand what NRS did, and they tried to make ninjas not resemble each other, but instead, each one having an exclusive and own feature that distinguish from the others, and make every one of them show part of their personality.
 
^Exactly, that's what I'm almost 100% sure that will happen. Amazing gameplay footage, and everyone will be crazy about the "new" Smoke and how his hair looks.
