*Minimal Spoilers* If a character dies...

I've been hearing that Ed Boon has stated that with the new direction of the game, that if a character dies in story mode, they will no longer return in a future game. I was curious as to if this was true or not?

There are characters that die in the story mode. I honestly am hoping that they stay dead to make room for characters in the future. However, it seems as though when someone dies in MK they don't stay dead for long. I hope they don't make the same mistake this time.

I sure as **** hope not.

I don't recall ever hearing that anywhere, but based on the couple of spoilers I've walked into, that would suck so much. They can't just take away one of my favorite characters on a whim after all these years, god damn it!

Are you more towards the story mode or towards the fighting aspect?

Because if you are more towards the story mode aspect, it would logically make sense to let people stay dead to make room for the newer characters.

If you are more towards the fighting aspect, I would bet that the characters will always be in game for the fighting or included as DLC.

I have very mixed feelings on killing characters off. On one hand it's good to progress a story and make room for new characters but on the other it just wouldn't be pure MK if key characters were killed off.

I'd like for characters to stay dead... But some of the characters that bite it in this game is kinda upsetting. I mean, it could work with really REALLY good writers. But this is Mortal Kombat. So....

And this is the big problem Boon and co. had. They didn't want to kill of key characters, but knew they needed to create new ones. Thus, konquest modes such as Deception and Armageddon (which I honestly didn't hate) that had too much shit going on in them because they had to involve every character.

I would much rather have a game that had story specific to a few characters and have the older, 'killed off' kombatants available in arcade mode.

I care plenty about the storyline, but tossing out fan favorites for the sake of it doesn't bode well with me, especially when that's just not Mortal Kombat. It never has been, and I don't think it should be now just because they want to work this "reboot" angle.

If the characters remained playable in the future even though their stories were written out, I could deal with that a lot better. But still, the fact that I care about the story of a character and playing as that character is what has me so bummed about the whole thing.

That's understandable. I would be upset if my fav was killed off.

I don't actually know who dies but I've heard rumours about a few characters. Personally I can't see many popular/big characters staying dead, considering this is the MK world and a lot of characters have died at some point only to be resurrected. On the other hand, having characters stay dead does add more weight to the story so I guess it depends who it is and if they could make MK10 work without them!!

I haven't read the story mode script or read many of the spoilers so I don't know much myself, just one character who died thanks to a friend who thought it'd be funny to spoil me (It wasn't). As for them staying dead, it was probably just rumors I've heard about Boon saying that they'd be permanently dead so I thought I'd ask to see if anyone else knew.

See, this I could live with. I understand characters have to die for the sake of the story, but it wouldn't bother me as much as long as they're available in arcade mode or such in future games, especially if popular ones were to die.

I hope with such an intensity that I would like to guarantee that Ed Boon would not make the mistake of constant resurrections. As I said, if everyone keeps coming back, the story becomes bulky and would have a lot of stuff in it that would just be stupid.

Most people didn't like Deception or Armageddon for that reason. (I didn't find anything wrong with them.) This relaunching and revamping of the story is pretty much Ed Boon's reset button to try and do something better. But, who knows?

This is just an example: Not a spoiler.

Yeah, I honestly can't see Ed Boon completely killing off someone like Scorpion in this game and then never having him in the future games for arcade mode.

i liked deception's konquest mode too actually...wish it was more fleshed out and different stuff, but very fun for its time.

Scorpion is gonna be in future MK's,he's already dead unless they find away to kill him off for good.

It was just an example.

I'd like them to make side projects of 2.5D stories for each individual character. I.e. Shujinko in Deception and Taven in Armageddon.

Like, more Mortal Kombat Mythologies

I hope the "dead" characters will at least be DLC in the future or we can make them if there will be Kreate a Fighter.
