I'm not aware of an MK9 thread for him, so thought I'd start one. Anyway, while I have strong doubts that he'll even be in the game (at least on disc), I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts. Personally I really enjoyed classic Rain, and my preference for a new design would be a hybrid of his old and new school versions.

So, if you want to see the character again, share your idea of how Rain should be presented in MK9 (including gameplay).
If you don't want him included, share your reasons why.

Well I don't really care if he is a launch character, as long as he doesn't replace any of my favorites lol. He has a really good story so I would like to see him at least be dlc. As for a costume I agree with jarvis653 about mixing his old and new look, like a ninja prince.
 
I always liked Rain. I think he's got a great story and has a lot of potential to be an amazing character. They just need to flesh him out a bit. I'm REALLY hoping he's involved with MK 2011. It wouldn't feel right without him and Sheeva (I think it was you, Jarvis that said they probably wont make the cut or something like that).

Are they huge characters? No. Not when you compare them to the likes of Scorpion and such. But they're fun.

As for his design... I seriously hope they stick with the purple ninja idea. Even his Armageddon look remained somewhat faithful to that.
 
I hated Rain until his MKD? appearance, and only then, it was his outfit that I liked. As a character I never had any attachment to him so I could care less about his inclusion in this one.

Personally, I'm very anti any of the characters that showed up on console only. If they weren't in the original cabs, then I can do w/o.
 
Since I wasn't very fond of MK Deception I'm having trouble remembering if Rain was playable or not. I know he was locked up in a prison cell (and sounded like a woman *rolls eyes*) but that's all I can recall.
 
My time line might be screwy, did he not show up until MKA? I'm referring to his Arabian Knight looking outfit. It was BA.

storyline wise, half brother of Taven and Daegon, but not included in the whole plot to reset the realms greatest warriors, so he's all whiny and stuff, meh.
 
Rain is one of my favorite ninjas. First he is shrouded with too much mystery to be ignored as a character. I enjoyed his moves (Thunder, water bubble, etc...) and mostly his Roundhouse "take a trip around the globe" kick. His portrait in MKT was excellent, I loved the blur, it just adds mystery to the character. I don't understand why people consider him as a joke, he was more then capable of taking down any character in the game.

Something to do with Prince's Purple Rain or something.

But Ermac was a joke as well and people seem to love him. I think they just need to give Rain a little more room to grow.
 
Honestly I wouldn't miss him if he didn't make the cut he was always he was vapid, insipid and not wholly interesting I think I may have used him once in MKA. If he were to be in Shao khan's throne room or something as a background character that would be okay for me. If they do add him I would suggest making him less of a henchman character and more of a stand alone sneak and underminer.

Completely agree. He was definitely fun, I remember getting some great combos out of him. Not the roundhouse infinite though haha. Lots of potential design and storywise, just needs to be approached with care.

He was not in deception at all bro, he wasnt in any game past UMK3 for consoles until Armageddon came out.

As for Rain, i wouldnt give two shits if he was in the game initially, as DLC, or not at all. Personally, after what ive seen in armageddon, hes a whiney little child who's willing to screw over his own realm because hes not recognized as much as his half brothers, so he gives "whoever the most evil person is at the time" a blowjob so he can gain attention. The only thing that makes me want him in the game is the nostalgia factor with all the ninjas.

Are you sure? I could have sworn he had at least a cameo in Deception.

And for the record, I think that's kind of an interesting story line. Better than some of the others. lol

Positive man, he wasnt a playble fighter in deception, you see him in the prison stage screaming his ass off, or you can find him in konquest. Then again, thats not really that shocking since you can find every old character in konquest.

As for the storyline, i just dont like how they made him sound like a typical spoiled modern rich kid, who wants more and more attention.

Yeah. So he had a cameo. lol I kinda figured he wasn't playable. Just wasn't positive. But I knew he had SOMETHING to do with it. hah

Yeahhh cameo indeed, it wouldve been better if he were playable, Deception's roster was complete trash because of the inclusion of the characters from the two newer realms... i never liked any of them, havik liked to break his own bones, dairou was just an assassin, big deal, darrius was just a rioteer and lastly... hotaru. dont get me started on that bastard, the biggest annoyance in konquest mode.

Lol Hotaru is one of the few newer characters that I don't mind (story-wise). His design on the other hand.... Holy crap. It irks me in all the wrong ways. For that reason I never played as him.
