Re: My MK2 Collection

How does the Saturn one compare to the PSX version? I kept hearing bad things about the Saturn one, and how the PSX one was allegedly better, even though I didn't think much of it personally.

I play MKII online occasionally, so I'll add you if you're ever online with your PS3.

Re: My MK2 Collection

Sure you can, Pat!

haha, I think you guys posted that when it came out. Funny thing is, I DL'd a Saturn emulator last night and as playing the posts of MKII, UMK3 & MKT.

I love MKII. Its my most beloved MK, and probably my most favorite fighting game ever (even tho I play UMK3 more) even tho he A.I. in MKII makes me RAGE.

Good post, Pat. I love it

Re: My MK2 Collection

HAHA I may get a blank PS3 case just for that, and then put a USB memory card with a backup of the game in it. ;)

I ordered up SNES ports of MK1-MK3 from a seller not far from me with the boxes, manuals, etc. Even seems to have the posters too that came with the games! I also grabbed a PC port of Midway Arcade Classics new in box for cheap. Now to find MK2 in box on GameBoy, GameGear, SegaMasterSystem and regular PC.

I'd also LOVE to find the super rare MK1+MK2 PC game, with box. I can never find that anywhere.

Re: My MK2 Collection

Cant find the MK1/MKII combo, but here is MKII PC on ebay:

Dont forget to check Craigslist.org in your area. I recently just got MK3 PC from a guy for $7. So always be on the lookout there ;)

If I see it, I'll let you know.

Also, if you can print up the art for that PS3 case, I will send you cases. I got extras at the Gamestop i work at.

Also, I will pay you to burn me a copy of all the MK music you have onto 1 disc in MP3 format. :D

You can't back up individual games, unlike other files like music or movies etc. The entire HDD content needs to be backed up for that.

Post a comparison of the two MKII's when you have the chance to check the PS1 version out.

Re: My MK2 Collection

Tim I saw that MK2 on eBay, but I want complete with box. So I passed on it.

As far as comparing the Saturn and PS1, they seem almost identical. I tossed the MK1 into an Emulator for a bit the other day. Ssomeone I know did a GREAT comparison already. We will actually be running this entire video next week, I've been accidentally putting it off as he covers all home console ports of all the games. Really well done.

And so much for the backup idea. Tim I'll take some PS3 and X360 cases sometime. I need a new X360 case for another case for my MKvsDC KE repackaging. ;)

There's a little trick in MK2 thats totally cheap. I'll do my best to explain it. You have to walk in towards the opponent a little bit then jump back and kick while your in the air. If done correctly, the computer will stand there for a brief moment then it will jump in towards you. He wont attack. He'll just jump right in. This leaves him WIDE OPEN for an attack.

The most effective attack to perform while hes jumping in is with Jax.

Jump kick him in the air followed by the backbreaker.

Wait for him to get up then repeat.

3 of those and the computer is done for.

Try it if you find yourself getting frusterated at the computer.

There's the MK/MKII game boy cartridge too, dunno if that was released for you guys. I've seen it preowned loads of times here, but never in the case

Sounds good. I'll grab what I can ove the next couple times in the store ;)

And as for the PS1 to Saturn version, I've only played the Saturn version, and it a decent port. However, it does feel like it shoud have been called MKII turbo edition, lol. :D

Yes, thats a very old trick actually. But instead of waiting for them to land, use a aaP (aa = anit air) then immediately use a projectile. Best example and most punishing counter is Scorp an Jax. For Scorp: aaLP, teleport punch, spear, uppercut. Jax: aaLP, wave punch, ground pound (should always be charging that GP). Find good ways to use the aaP and you'll raise your game in MKII (and UMK3 ;))

But even as you go up the ladder, that gitch doesnt always work well. :/

Re: My MK2 Collection

You really think the Saturn point is decent? I think it's crap. The graphics are spot-on, but everything else is completely messed up. They even got the walking speed wrong, not to mention the fact that it's impossible to throw the computer (not that it was ever easy in the first place, but here they actually disabled it) and you can hit an opponent who's recovering from a fall with a projectile that always lands without them being able to block it (I used to abuse this endlessly as Scorpion and Sub-Zero). Let's not forget all the ridiculous loading time you have to deal with in-match, either ("whoops, we weren't expecting you to use a projectile, hang on, we need to load that").

The Saturn version of MK2 pisses me off to no end. Here they were finally dealing with a console that was completely capable of an arcade-perfect port, and they still botched it. I hope Probe rots in hell.

Re: My MK2 Collection

Yeah MK1+MK2 only came out for GameBoy and PC. The PC one is VERY VERY rare. I could barely find it when it did come out. It sported new versions of the games that the original MK1 and MK2 PC releases didn't have. I forgot what they fixed, but it was a good improvement with the sound I think it was? It's been a while.

I've seen more GameBoy copies than PC copies, I want one in a box but may settle for just the cartridge some day.

It seems that they were having problems with the amount of memory on the Saturn, which is a bit surprising actually. The best solution was if they'd make a version that can use a RAM cart and load the whole thing into memory, but only Japanese games used that it seems since it was never marketed here.

Sounds like the PS1 game. It's sped up, but isn't as buggy as Deathcore described it. As soon as I got the MAT version, I had no use for it.

Pat, I don't think the Saturn port's inadequacy can be blamed solely on memory. SF Alpha 2 and other Capcom fighters were bigger memory hogs, but the programmers managed to make due with the limited memory. Likewise for Alpha 3 on the PS1. Just seemed that Acclaim was looking into milking the license.

PS. I guess the Saturn MK/MK2 never saw the light of day in retail but I'm sure mags got some preview copies. Acclaim even ran mag ads for a while.

Re: My MK2 Collection

The Capcom ports can use the RAM carts, which then make the entire game load into memory at the start. No loading times at all.

The games played just fine without a RAM cart though. Xmen VS SF and pretty much every other 2D fighter from Capcom had a mandatory use of it. The Saturn Alpha 3 remains the best version of the game, edging out the PS2 emulation by a hair (some minor delay in commands). That's one rare game that's hard to find at a reasonable price. That was also the very last published Saturn game.

I've never actually played the actual game disc, just the ROM on a Saturn emulator. So it basically is being played from a hard drive, so the load times arent bad.

But, like i said, it plays like MKII Super Turbo

Re: My MK2 Collection

The emulator wont be perfect speed.

MK2 PSX seemed fast too, on my 8 Core MacPro via Emulator. I sadly can't play my MK2 on a real System, unless I can find a way to region hack my PS2. Hmmm...

There is a universal boot up disc called Breaker Pro that allegedly works flawlessly. I think it typically goes for $15-$20.
