MK Legacy II Review

THE LEGACY

I'm not going to spend time in this review telling you about MK Legacy, you likely know all about it already. This is a review of today's home video release of Season 2 to Blu-ray and DVD.

You can order the it from Amazon for $13.87 for the Blu-ray and only $10.68 for the DVD.

But you may ask, if this show is free online why should I buy it on disc? Well that's what I hope to answer for you here in this review. I think the biggest reason is because you will own it, because it’s unknown how long Machinima has the rights to stream Legacy on their YouTube channel.

Also many have asked recently, will there be a third series? I have seen rumors of it but still waiting for the official announcement. With how the series progressed this season and left wide open, I do hope we see the story continue soon. My guess is that you'll hear more about that next year before the release of Mortal Kombat X.

VIDEO

One of the major issues with streaming video is the reduced bitrate. Sure they may be giving you an HD 1080p resolution, but the most important part of video is the bitrate. The more bits the more detail the picture can have. This is especially important with action. So getting it on disc will get you the best quality picture by a mile. Take a look below for a few examples.

The beautiful texture of everything from the sets to the faces of the actors, you see much more detail on the Blu-ray release thanks to the increased bitrate.

AUDIO

The other advantage with disc is they can pack an improved soundtrack as well. The Blu-ray is the first time Legacy Season 2 is presented in Surround Sound. So if you have a good home theatre system like me, this is where a difference will be made. It’s hard to put it into words, but it sounded incredible.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Sadly the disc has no special features to speak of beyond the original announcement trailer. Not even an MKX trailer on the disc. It's very surprising. I really hope that WB does a Legacy set at some point with director and actor commentary for the entire run of the series.

RECAP

So if you are a fan of the series and want a higher quality viewing experience or just want to not tax your slower internet connection then I think this is a no brainer purchase. There are no special features, but the disc is not premium priced so I wasn’t too surprised.
