Modding games in the XBOX requires you to open your XBOX and install a modchip, which is illegal. To unlucky people, the XBOX is scanned, and literaly people come to your door and take your XBOX away. It voids your warranty, and it eliminates the chance to play XBOX Live.

If your going to do it, buy a new xbox, and do it that way.
 
Modding your xbox is not illegal. I also thought that, but at the same time, wondered why people who modded systems werent getting charged.

Simple reason is it isnt illegal else it'd all be taken down. The mod chips main purpose is to play games from other geographic locations, so remember your friend from Europe who brought over his games and they didn't work? . For example in the UK it is illegal considering you could pirate games, but in Italy it isnt.

And why is editing Mortal Kombat any different? I spent my cash on the game, why cant I spend my cash changing it. Im not selling it am I? I know it's out there and I cant find it, I cant believe so many people dont know.
 
They can't arrest you for modding an XBOX (at least in my country). That someone was from a place that prohibits the chips (like the United Kingdom) or they were most likely selling the chips and pirated games.
 
Uhm, modding your XBOX is illegal, because your tampering with microsoft equipment. The reason why it disables you from xbox live is because of the unwanted mods and glitches that can be brought to the others XBOX's through the modders xbox.

I don't recommend it, as its stupid, because 3/4 of the xbox games available are for PC. As I said, it also voids your warranty, and support is killed. If you screw up, even a mm off when soldering, your xbox is gone.

Recommended? No, but possible.

RAN-CID most of the mod-chips out there allow you to turn them on and off. If you mod your system, I would be careful if I were you when playing live, you dont want to get banned. As far as your home personal use of the modded system, you want more guys, or levels, or just do crazy stuff I say have fun and get a chip.
 
People who mod their systems belong in the same circle of hell as those who use Game Genies.
