X-Rays on PS3 has noticeable slow downs, but Xbox doesn't

After playing both versions of MK on both systems, I've noticed the PS3 version slows down whenever an XRay is performed most of the time, I thought at first it was part of the effect, but then after seeing the Xbox version (especially Noob's Xray) it was smoother everytime and never slowed down one bit. Some might say that it depends on the stage when the Xray is performed, but I tested that out too and again, its smoother than the PS3 version.

Of course this isn't that big of a deal, but I am just surprised that the PS3 version does that, I thought both consoles are equally as powerful.

I noticed that too, I have both versions and the xbox xrays are smooth every sing time, the ps3 has noticable slow down

is the slow down on purpose?

No, as I mentioned, I am aware that the XRay effect slows down on purpose to see the gory details, but I am talking about the actual frame rate. The PS3 version's frame rate slowns down considerably with some XRays and Noob's is a perfect example. While the 360 doesn't do that at all. You will only understand if you played or seen both versions.

The PS3 version slows down during Shang Tsung transformations sometimes too. I have the game on both consoles as well and it runs a better on the 360. That's not a fanboy statement meant to create drama, just a statement of observation. The PS3 version's menus and select screen are way smoother though.

I have the ps3 version so I have no say in this but I do have a question, does the Xbox360 version require or have the option to download the game? If it does or have the option to, it could be the reason why its faster loading for the xbox version.

Right. It lags went a xray is inputd or went shang tsung morphs on ps3.
It even crash to me one time on the xray :(.

You can install any game on 360, but none require it. I've played the 360 version installed and not, and I see no difference, not even in load times.

Do you mean installing the game? If that's what you meant than it still should'nt be the case. The PS3 auto installs most of the games when you insert the disc, but I don't remember seeing it being installed nor was there an option to do so.

However....

I played MK for the 360, but we never installed it in the system, and it still runs smoother than the PS3 and also it loads faster too. Could it be the PS3 hardware itself? Or can something like this be patched up?

Interesting...this explains why the x-ray moves I see in Youtube videos seem like they're in slow motion compared to when I do them at home...

Have you guys noticed that on the PS3 version's box it says REQUIRED installation of 4 gigs. Um.. No. It's not "required" but may help with some slow down. Who knows?

Would it be possible to post some vids? Unfortunatle I'll prob never see it on an xbox, so it's making me curious.

Yep interesting indeed lol. I'll check around other forums and see if I can find something about this.

really interesting i thought ps had the hardware to excel where xbox couldnt

That's what's weird. The PS3 is more powerful and some things in the game run better on it, for instance in the Character Selection Screen the images pop up immediately, where in the 360 version there's a slight delay. The VS loading screens are way smoother in the PS3 version as well. I find most cross platform games run better on the 360, I'm not exactly sure why. But exclusive PS3 games like Uncharted 2 and God of War blow away ANYTHING on the 360 in every respect.

i dont no about the xrays, but shang tsung slows down, at first i thought it was on purpose. Then when i used mk1 ermac he walked turned and so on. Then i played it with sheeva and it slowed down so idk.

I don't remember installing the game on my PS3. Do the game installs automatically when you play for the first time?

Another thing, sometimes during X-Rays, there's a delay in what I see compared to what what hearing. The best example is Sonya's bicycle kick: i hear the stompings way before she hits the opponent.

Ok, but I don't have any capture cards and my android phone's camcorder sucks, I'll have to go to my friends house again and use his Iphone to record it. I'll post it again on this thread once we have it.

In my experience, also having both copies, I've noticed it too but only on rare occasions. And only by a few frames from what I can tell, I've never personally seen it do anything "slow-motion" worthy.

What I did notice is that some of the 360's cutscenes in Story Mode seem to have the framerate cap lifted where the PS3 doesn't; in other words, the PS3's cutscenes are mostly 30fps all the way through right up until a fight, while some parts on the 360 will be 30fps and the others will be 60 regardless of whether or not it's the last line of dialogue before a match. Sometimes I see artifacts as if it's FMV though, so maybe some of them are prerendered? Or maybe it uses a mix between the two... blah. I can't analyze everything about MK you know :P

Yes, you are correct, the sound effect occurs at times before she actually bicycle kicks them upwards, of course due to drop in framerate.
