X-Ray Frustration - Just Taunting?

out of every 10 times or so that i try to pull off the x-ray with johnny cage, 7 or 8 times all he does is just stand there and taunt the opponent while my damn x-ray bar disappears to nothing. i don't think distance is the issue since i try to be right next to the opponent when i do it.

what the hell am i doing wrong?
 
His X-Ray is a counter; you need to do it right before your opponent hits you for it to work. If done right, Johnny should go to town on their crotch with his fists.
 
Its a defensive type x-ray in the sense that your opponent needs to hit you while the xray is being activated. For an opponent who likes to jump at you, it works like a charm. ;)
 
Yeah, Like Cyber Sub-Zeros has to be done in the air, There not all one hit then X-Ray moves, They match to the type of player your character is.
 
That's right. If you use Johnny's X-Ray in the right moment, it will give to your enemy a good 41% damage strike.
