Would Anyone Else Like to See This?

So I just finished Phantasy Star II on XBLA. Got all of the Achievements, but it was great playing through this game again.

After I finished, it made me think how nice it would be to have a lot of other old-school RPGs available on XBLA/PSN. My all-time favorite 16-bit RPGs are Final Fantasy 4 & 6, and I would've scooped these up a lot faster than PSII. I'm betting the droves of Crono Trigger fans would buy it without a second thought, too. Having all of the old Phantasy Stars available would be awesome, and even though it would probably never happen, having Super Mario RPG would be fantasic, too. Hell, even the Playstation FF games could get some love again like this.

Not only would it appeal to those of us who dig the nostalgia, it would introduce younger fans to these classics that have spawned some of the biggest names in the industry. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

I agree. The PSN has done a pretty decent job of bringing some old-school RPG's back to life. Final Fantasy Tactics and 7,8,9, Xenogears, Threads of Fate, a few Arc the Lad games, and a few others I'm sure I'm forgetting.

I know Chrono Trigger recently went up on the Virtual Console for the Wii.

Honestly I'm VERY surprised that the older Fantasies haven't showed up on PSN/XBLA. 4 and 6 (or 3, wtfever you wanna call it) have already been ported to PSX, so it wouldn't be that much work to get them up on PSN. If not that, they could just put Final Fantasy Chronicles and Anthology up their (one of them includes Chrono Trigger, which I'm sure would make LOTS of people happy).

Not only old school RPGs but ANY old school game.

PSN recently added Streets of Rage 2 to the store. Got it, played it, was 8 years old again =) It was my favourite game as a kid and I BEGGED for it for Christmas and got it. I was so damn happy and started recording all my scores in the manual to look back on when I got older, lol.

It would be awesome if they could bring back more old school games. Though I love next gen games, old school games will forever hold a special place in my heart and every kid should be able to experience the awesomeness of older games we grew up on.

Exactly. People would buy Suikoden games like crazy, too. I never finished Xenogears, but that's one of the ones I'd love to have another go at. I actually have a PSX copy somewhere (along with a lot of other Square PSX games), but I don't have a PSX to play them on. Haha.

I'm surprised, too. I'm surprised PSIV hasn't ended up on there, either. Phantasy Star II runs on an emulator, so they wouldn't even need to port them. Just make it so the emulator recognizes them and set up the Achievements/Trophies.

@Jade Yeah, it could be done with all sorts of old games. The Road Rash games, the Metal Gear 1 & 2 (8-bit), the list could go on and on. It would be awesome.

I believe Suikoden is on the PSN Store.

Same here, I started it many years ago, but for one reason or another I had to put it down before I could finish it. It's AMAZING.

Don't you have a PS3 to play them on?

Didn't think you could play PSX games on the PS3. It's not backwards compatible with PS2 games since I just got it a few months ago, and I just assumed it wouldn't play Playstation games, too.

I run FF5 and 6, I have 4 on my DS, on emulators. If they came out on XBLA, I'd buy them without a second thought.
