Who here will try and get Resident Evil 5?

I am interested, as are a few RE fan site webmasters. But I'm guessing it's the 360 version and I no longer have the console, so I know a couple of hardcore collectors that would love having a review copy, and they're US residents (PA and CA). Their sites are www.the-horror.com and www.biohaze.com

I'll let them know. Jade can perhaps tell Rudy from RE Fan, since Rob is in NZ and doesn't have a 360 either.

Played the demo, the other level, and its cool i guess. Headshots seem random. Like i shoot one guy in the head and it explodes, the next guy i head shot just falls to the ground and gets back up. I died at the chainsaw guy, i was trying to switch to a different gun, by the time i did i was getting my head sawed off. The inventory should pause the game, trying to use a health or change guns in real time is a *****. The girl kept getting in my way too.

One trick that isn't made completely obvious in the demo is that you can use the D-pad to switch to the items you have in the top/bottom/left/right spots in your inventory. I think by default these are the positions it puts the guns in, but you can move them around in the inventory screen. Switching weapons can then be done very quickly.

I think I ended up putting guns in top and left, health in right and grenades in bottom, or something like that. :)

Headshots have been random since RE Director's Cut, which incidentally was the only traditional RE game that allowed you to do that up to RE4.

Been playing the demo quite a bit, and I'm not sure how the 360 only code works but for random pickups on the PS3, it depends on the version you have. I have the Japanese demo so it'll prioritize Japanese accounts and only resort to other regions if no one is available. Like any other game out there, talk about a difference in gameplay style. The Japanese gamers I've played with were far more co-operative, even the ones without the mics (for example, they won't hog all the ammo, and won't keep the ones they can't use).

I've played the Outbreak games online and those lacked direct communication, so gaming without a mic is fine. A blessing at times, since you'll occasionally run into someone who has a lot of background noise (music or a bunch of idiots cheering)

It's easy to tell who's been an RE fan for a long time and who's getting into RE for the first time with this demo...

Sad really. Those who have played RE4 know the randomness of the headshots, the inability to move and shoot, and the frustration of the run button. But anyone whoe played and loved RE4 obviously know how to work around those control issues. They are NOT flaws. They are design decisions that both balance and enhance the enjoyment of Resident Evil 4, and now 5.

I've got the CE Pre-ordered and I've played the demo multiple times. I don't enjoy it quite as much as RE4, and that's mostly because of the monstrous changes to the inventory system. They claim it's for balancing but isn't not being able to walk and shoot enough?

I'm a fan of the Dead Space control scheme. It works beautifully. But the controls will not detract from my enjoyment of the game.

This post may be a little late but I noticed there have been no new posts after RE5 came out.
For my part, the game was a total success.
I obtained all the achievements 3 days after it came out and the Versus achievements 2 days after it was released.
This game is so much fun!
I enjoy playing the story over and over as well as matching up with a friend so we can kick ass in Versus.
The CE was well worth the price, even if it was clearly overpriced down here in Mexico.

Well...I've discussed RE5 and its faults a lot, though not here I don't think. As a solid action game I give it a 9.0. It was very fun, had lots of replayability, fun achievements/trophies, a good collector's edition...but it was no Resident Evil game. Where RE4 departed from the series it still retained an atmosphere of tension, isolation, anxiety, and a feeling that you could be overwhelmed at any time.

But in RE5 the atmosphere takes a back seat, you never feel like the characters believe they are in any danger, ammo is never a concern, puzzles are non-existent, and every aspect of the game draws you out of it...like anti-immersion.

But let's talk gameplay issues. RE5 alters the formula, and makes it an action game. Moving and shooting a la Dead Space feels almost necessary, yet it's not there. The inventory system makes no sense, is extremely limiting, and requires constant attention. Not to mention the AI...oh god the AI...I'm not even going to get into the AI, it would take hours.

Well, that's gameplay and atmosphere out of the way; how about plot/storyline? Can anybody say "atrocious dissapointment"? Because I can. Wesker, my FAVORITE character in Resident Evil...was ruined. He was made awesome and badass with his matrix moves. And I loved that. But he intrigue, his mystery, his grand plan that has been spanning the ENTIRE FECKING SERIES...turns out to nothing more than a TYPICAL megalomaniacal plot straight out of a comic book...from the 30s. Wesker stays behind the scenes in EVERY game, ceaselessly collecting samples of every virus or contagion that's ever caused anybody grief...he hires Hunk and Ada to do his work for him and keep his involvement secret. He hoodwinks the protagonists into giving him exactly what he needs. And WHAT does he do with it? HE SELLS IT. TO FUND A PLAN NOBODY HAS EVER HEARD OF. And yet, we've all heard it a million times before. It RUINS him for me. My favorite character. Ruined...

Ok, bad stuff out of the way. It's a great game. If I don't think about it too hard it turns out to be enjoyable, great to play with friends, the costumes are HOT (tribal Sheva and jumpsuit Jill FOR THE WIN), and collecting everything kept me entertained for weeks. And I got EVERYTHING. 1000/1000 gamerscore (only the second game I've done that for), every action figure, every difficulty, all S ranks (on at least 1 difficulty), I even mucked about in Professional difficulty with that IDIOT partner. I like RE5 as a game. But as anything more, anything I want to look into on a deeper level (as I like to do), it is deeply disappointing.

Well, I defenitely agree with you in terms of lack of tension within the game.
When RE5 was first being conceived I remember there being mentioning of a fear factor of daylight which at first seemed rather intruiging to me.
I was even curious how it was going to play out since in the very early trailers of the game they would make Chris' vision somewhat blurry when he stepped into daylight and I thought that would've made the game more interesting by having the player not being able to see for a short ammount of time while having dozens of Majini attacking them.

As for the inventory.
My point of view is rather neutral in the sense that, yes it's limiting, but it keeps some order as opposed to the RE4 inventory where you had to fit everything perfectly into the little grid squares and if you didn't pay attention to it then you would be picking stuff up and running out of space but have tiny grids that were vacant all over the place.
However, the RE5 inventory makes it a bit difficult when it comes to picking up new weapons since I would sometimes find myself reorganizing everything to make all my weapons available for quick access.

Interms of Wesker.
When I first saw him in one of the latter RE5 trailers I nearly jizzed my pants since he looked incredibly awesome!
The only problem is that he was watered down and like you said, Glamador, his entire facade was somewhat destroyed by having an entirely new virus be the center of the game.
When I first heard about Uroboros I thought to myself; "What?! WTF is that? What happened to the T-virus or Las Plagas?"

Finally, when it comes to being able to move while shooting, I didn't mind it too much in the campaing but around the time Versus was released I noticed the necesity of it to avoid any monotony in gameplay.
I'm sometimes disapointed in how n00bs will use that to their advantage and use S.T.A.R.S. Wesker to kill everyone with 1-2 shots.

Oh and by the way, Tribal Sheva is the hottest RE girl so far!:_evil:
I also enjoyed Jill's massive cleavage!

I haven't finished any RE game before. And its because of the movement system where ONLY Up is to walk and left/right is to slowly turn around. I definitely would have played it more if they changed that system to something like Gears of War.

Actually there's strafing in RE5. You can choose the RE4 scheme, a more traditional western shooter control scheme, or a mix. The only thing you still can't do in RE5 is move and perform actions.

Also I agree with Ermac97, that Tribal Sheva is the absolute hottest RE girl yet. Better than Ashley's pop-star pants or Ada's hot red dress....or Hunk, hunk's in his name after all.

I'm not sure if I completely understood your posts there dude.
Let me ask you this; which RE games have you played before?
If you've only played RE4 then I can see the logic of your desire for strafing but if you've played the classic RE or anything before RE4 then I don't see why you would be frustrated at the lack of strafing since it was never implemented into an RE title to begin with.

I'm not trying to be a dick here, I only want to make sure I understood what I read.:ciao:

What's to understand? The movement/camera in RE1-CV didn't include the ability to strafe, and while it wasn't necessary movement in general was a nuisance in those titles. As far as wanting any "improvements" to RE4...well that's just not possible. RE4 is perfect.

Well what I mean is that Jinko was saying how he would've been more inclined to play more RE titles if the system was more like Gears of War.
What I was asking if he was refering to only RE4 because then it would've made sense.
If he was talking about having the GoFW system implemented into any of the RE1-CV titles it wouldn't make sense because that system wasn't even existant around that time.

Yeah, I understand what you mean. The only RE games that I have played (note played, not finished) were RE1 and RE4. Gosh the movement in RE1 sucked. I'm not a great player and it was hard to learn the movement, running away from zombies and such. RE4 was a game I was compelled to play, even though the movement was the same. But it wasn't my copy of the game. I had to go home after playing the game for half an hour. I was impressed, but not enough to make me buy the game.

I think what made RE4 a better game was because of the dual joysticks where one was to move and the other was to aim.

But RE4 didn't have a dual joystick system. And it was just fine the way it was. The movement in RE4 didn't detract from the action because it's not an action game. It's more action-y than RE1-CV but it didn't need move and shoot or dual analog control. Why? Because for the most part you kept to long thin areas, or at least areas where you could position yourself in a corner. You didn't have to run and gun, which is good since you couldn't anyway.

Which version of RE1 did you play? The original PS or the Gamecube remake?
IMO, I think the controls where somewhat improved for the REmake as opposed to the original one but very slightly.
