Shaolin Monks was a glorified fan fiction that just so happened to be published by the official source. It's not canon because of NUMEROUS contradictions to the then-established story. Boon and Vogel are lying to you when they say it's canon. (Actually, Boon doesn't even know what's canon because he doesn't write the story...he has been known to get his story shit wrong)

Games with out-of-universe guest characters are automatically counterfeit games, and should be non-canon based on that.

Well, I'm glad that you're not the one who decides what is and what isn't canon, then.

Guests in fighting games are always non-canon fodder, but main roster characters from the series are always canon to that game.
That's the point that I'm getting at.
MK9, the MKX comics and MKX are 100% canon, whether you like it or not.
Guest characters and "what if" DLC characters are non-canon, unless otherwise proven in the same game or the next game.
Hence, Freddy and Kratos = non-canon.
Kenshi, Skarlet, Rain, Tanya, Tremor and Bo' Rai Cho = MKX canon.

The same thing goes with Injustice.
You're going to tell me that the entirety of Injustice is also non-canon because Scorpion is a DLC guest character?
That's beyond ridiculous and makes no sense, whatsoever.
 
Scorpion could actually be considered Canon in Injustice due to the Infinite Earth arc.

Quan Chi's amulet even appears in one of the stages lol

I was just using that as an example.

For the most part, guests are non-canon and are done because people want to see those characters in games, not having relevance to the story.
The same could be said of MK characters that aren't part of the story but show up as DLC.
At the time of MK9, Rain, Skarlet and Kenshi were non-canon to the new timeline.
They became canon within the MKX comics and the MKX game.
 
But again, Kenshi was mentioned by name during the MK9 tournament by Shang Tsung.

And honestly, I could see Alien becoming canon to MK. It's a popular enough character, and the backstory is elaborate enough that it could be believable. They even altered its bio to say it came from a random Tarkatan rather than Baraka which would be a huge contradiction. Also helps that Reiko straight up fought a Xenomorph in the comics lol
 
If we're going off of technicalities, then Fujin was also in MK9's audio files for the game, so that counts as well.

As for Alien, if they made him canon then they'd have to make Predator, Leatheface, Jason and Freddy also canon, and that likely isn't happening.
Going off of MK9 and the pattern that they've had of bringing new guests to each game, that isn't the most likely scenario.
The most likely scenario is that all of the MKX guests will remain non-canon fodder, just like what happened with MK9, and for MK11 they'll bring in some other guests as DLC.
 
Kenshi was mentioned in story mode though. Fujin was a scrapped audio file.

Why would they have to make the other guests Canon? They've no obligations to do that. They have choices

They have no obligation to make him canon, and also have choices.
The pattern that has worked very well for NRS has been main roster MK characters and guests as DLC.
The guests sell more as DLC, which means more money for them, and the MK characters will continue on the main roster.
What I'm guessing happened after MK9 is that they realized that Kratos probably could have helped to make more money for them on PS3 if he was DLC, so they did that for MKX with all of the guests and it worked out for them.

And I do see what you're saying. Kratos was sold on disc to move more units, but they're being smarter now and revealing the guests before the game even drops to sell units and dlc preorders at the same time.

Still though, them making Alien or Predator canon MK characters wouldn't surprise me. They're running out of good candidates for guests anyway.

The day ANY guest character becomes canon in MK is the day ALL of MK ceases to be canon.

I know that Michael Meyers could be similar to Jason, but Spawn could work within the MK universe, if NRS could get the licensing for it.

I dunno.
I just don't see them putting guests on the main roster when it's their #1 DLC seller, and that main roster space could be used to better introduce potential NEW MK11 characters or bring back other MK characters.
 
Fujin should be in the next game as playable. It would be the stupidest thing in the world if he isn't because they need to be a God to recruit new heroes to take out the bad guys and with Raiden being bad now Fujin is really needed now. Sareena, Li Mei and Frost should be playable and get better stories and screen time. They are so much that they can do with these characters. I believe it is safe to say Taven and Daegon will be in the next game. It is time for heroes from all around the Mortal Kombat realm team up and take out the Evil characters. Taven killing his brother Daegon needs to happen in the next game so that way Armageddon could not happen period. Shujinko in my opinion should be in the game but I hope to god he isn't stupid this time around and get fooled again but maybe this time he could actually be a good guy and help take down the new evil and an old one and that is Shang Tsung because we all know that he will be back in the next game. The one being could actually be the main boss of the new game and may actually have a real name that is revealed in the next game. I want either Taven or Kai to be the hero of the next game. Oh yeah and if Kai isn't in the next game I will be upset. I just can't wait till 2018 when we get the first trailer of it. It has begun 2019.
 
Doesn't even have to be playable. Would be cool to have an Outworld Cave stage that had Xeno eggs everywhere. Stage fatality the loser gets mauled by the Queen or a horde

Plus Jade while being possessed and Bi Han should be in the next game as secret characters or DLC.

The One Being would be a nice final boss but if he isn't Onaga should be the final boss.

I think that's a pretty good balance of Trilogy, 3D era and WB era characters. I also think 3 new characters is a solid number after the near overdose we got in MKX.

I'd like to see Emperor Liu Kang and Empress Kitana as the sub boss and sub-sub boss with a brand new main boss.
 
Well in the NEXT MK game, I definitely wouldn't mind seeing some new faces and all, but I really hope the list of "returning" characters shifts more towards the MK4-MKD era of new characters, because I grew up in that era and they really seem to be avoiding that bunch.

Sure, some were flukes, but a lot were not and could still get the MK9 Stryker treatment of being upgraded to something more badass than before.

22. Suchin (Revenant form of Kenshi's wife who wields a katana. She's able to make projectile energy from slashes of her blade.)

23. Kana and Jubei Hasashi (Revenant forms of Scorpion's wife and son who fight similarly to Ferra/Torr.)

24. Kano's Son (Uses two knives like his dad but also has explosives and a sub-machine gun for his disposal.)

25. Goro or a new Shokan. (Has Tarkatan blades in all 4 arms! SUB-BOSS 3/SEMI-FINAL BOSS. PRE-ORDER BONUS.)

26. Onaga (Final Boss. UNLOCKABLE.)
