The Reason You Can't Play with the New DLC

If this has happened to you, or you've found that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, here's the reason why;

If you (or the other players) haven't downloaded the compatibility pack yet, chances are you won't be able to play as Skarlet or with the new cyborg costume. The reason being is because the new DLC is not on the disk, i.e. the Klassic Costumes and their 3 fatalities were already on the disc, but needed a code for them to be unlocked via DLC.

However, since Skarlet and the cyborg costumes are new, they are DL'ed to your hard drive, so when you play it online and the game syncs with a player that DOES NOT have the new DLC content yet, the coding in the game won't allow you to play it, because the coding has yet to exist on that other person's hard drive, which means they wouldn't be able to read/see any of the new stuff until its downloaded.

Hence forth the compatibility pack. I suggest you download it, it's free. If you're having network connection errors, or your season pass isn't working properly, don't fret. NRS is on it and they'll fix it soon. ^ _ ^

You should be forced to dl the compat pack, a few matches I wanted to use Skarlet but couldn't because the other play didn't have it.

Also, we have the same first and last name

is the compatibility pack released anywhere yet? looked at my US account and only found skarlett, not the compatibility pack.

Someone please answer this question. I'm having the same problem.

In game mk9 menu, go to extras and select downloadable content. A pop-up should appear and it should show Skarlet and the option to purchase her, This pop-up has three pages.

Page 1. Skarlet
Page 2. Compatibility pack
Page 3. Klassic costumes.

Use your D-pad to change pages. On page 2 you can download the pack by pressing X or A.

Yeah, I really wish they'd just made the compatibility a mandatory update. There's no reason not to. I haven't really been using the new content online yet but I know I'll have some problems if they handle the compatibility for Kenshi and Rain the same way. I'll be taking Skarlet for a spin online pretty soon and it'll prolly be pretty annoying to not be able to use her just because some people were to lazy to download a free compatibility pack.

Yeah it doesn't make sense to me why they wouldn't just release something like that as a patch. Giving people the option to get free costumes and being able to see everyone else's DLC? Ewwww.

But yeah, when you go to the Extras menu under DLC, you'll actually have 4 options. The season pass, skarlet, the compatibility pack, and the classic costumes. The pack only takes a minute to download, and it should fix things for the most part unless the person you are facing doesn't have it either.

Why does this come as a surprise to people that you would need to do this? Most fighting games do this. If both players dont have the DLC then the one that does cant use it. This is just like in shooting games when someone who doesnt have the newest maps gets booted from the game cause of it

PS3 doesn't have the same process as Xbox. It's costs a lot of money to present that stuff to everyone through third parties, and while Xbox covers it, PS3 doesn't.

So basically they're being cheap :P

It comes as a surprise because not everyone plays games online, nor have they played shooters like CoD and understand the process. Believe it or not this is news to some people, and they trip out when it feels like somethings aren't working the way they are supposed to. That's why I'm here. :D

(EU PS3) Not sure if this is the same problem but I downloaded both Skarlet and the classic skins today, but it's as if I didn't download them at all. I can't find any of the DLC in the game at all, neither online or off. Is this suppossed to be because I couldn't get the compatibility pack also? I got a 20$ US PSN card just for the MK DLC so it sucks that it doesn't work. Oh, and if I try to "check for new DLC" in the extras menu when I'm logged in to my regular EU account everything just freezes and I have to reset my PS3...

I think your explanation is invalid.

I pre-purchased at Gamestop and i have MK1 kostume for scorpion.
I live in EU and today we just got the Klassik Kostumes DLC and the patch 1.02.

We have the same problem, sometimes i can't use the klassik kostumes and sometimes i can, BUT when i can't i can't even use my MK1 Scorpion kostume, which worked always before today.

So why is that?

The compatiblity pack isn't exclusive to Skarlet and the cyborgs, if you read you would see that they're cycled updated to make sure everyone is on the same level. With that, it tells me that NRS got lazy and forgot to KEEP the pre-order klassics in the game and instead just worked on the Klassics if you bought them via DLC.

Honestly I think they threw in the Cyber Retros just to get people to download the compatibility pack otherwise a lot less people will download it because they are too lazy >.>

My best guess (and this is all hypothetical, btw) is that with the new patch they tried to bundle all of the DLC coding together, and if you haven't downloaded the compatibility pack, it's not going to allow you to select any of the DLC costumes or characters. The coding for most of the klassic costumes are already there. Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile....even Klassic Noob Saibot and Smoke's costumes are already in the game, and could be seen in the game before the DLC content was even released. Since it's already on the disc, you're allowed to play them. The Cyborgs and Skarlet on the other hand, aren't. (Despite the fact you can see Skarlet in the backround chained up in the Colosseum stage.)

Again I am assuming that they tried to bundle all of the coding together, and something got messed up along the way, and now NOTHING shows up if your opponent never downloaded the compatibility pack. I seriously don't know why they wouldn't have just patched the coding in, then offered the kostumes free as separate from the pack, or included with your purchase of Skarlet, but they didn't, and now everyone is confused and frustrated over it. I'm not familiar with EU part of it, and I'm not sure if the coding is the same, but it should be. O.o

EDIT: It makes more sense to me now when I think about it. Because the pre-order costumes + fatalities could already be seen by other players who didn't have it before the DLC content was even released. Since the compatibility pack JUST came out, my assumption again is that they, for some reason, tried to tie all the DLC content together, and somewhere along the line the coding got ****ed up. So now all the DLC, past and present, cannot be seen by those who dont have the compatibility pack. Even though you costume was a pre-order costume, you needed a code to unlock, and it still shares a code with everything else.

DLC is region locked. Sony Wins, Flawless Victory, Fatality

I have a new theory about all of this:

The compatibility pack only allows you and your opponnent do select the Klassic Costumes that you BOTH have.

I realized this last night fighting a friend. I bought the Klassic Skins Pack #1 and Skarlet. He got the Compatibility Pack and Sub-Zero's Klassic Costume with pre-order code. Because of that, the only Klassic Costumes that we were allowed to use were MK1 Sub-Zero and MK3 Sektor & Cyrax. When trying to select MK3 Kitana or MK1 Reptile, for example, instead of freezing and disconnecting (how it used to be before the Compatibility Pack), I simply didn't get the option to select the costume, like if I never had them! But back offline, the klassic costumes were usable. And as expected, no problems with Skarlet. I could use her, but he couldn't. And Kratos, once again, wasn't available online.

So, the thing is, unless everyone gets all the klassic costumes (or they fix the damn thing, which ever comes first!), people who bought the Klassic Skins Pack are being punished and can't use them online everytime they want to!

My guess is that NRS is just too much confused with their own coding. They try to fix something, and other stuff get screwed. They try to fix, and screw up more.

But anyway, online was lag free for me, but got a lot od desynchs...
