The Classic Mortal Kombat Game Feel

I would like to see a Mortal Kombat game with the classic MK feel of Mortal Kombat 2 or 3 for instance. In the new Mortal Kombat, the fighting is at closer quarters so there is less of that kind of kinetic exchange of the classic games. What I mean is that fast fighting involving more motion and timing.

I will say I am not into the old Mortal Kombat games anymore. For me, the game is too basic as compared to the newer fighting games out there. But I still really appreciate that old Mortal Kombat game style. If they could find a way to blend the old game style with new advances, that could make for a great game in my opinion. I actually have a few ideas on how this can be implemented.

I going to have to agree with you on this. the older games did have a lot faster feel to bring the pain. not to memtion they don't feel as bukly as the newer versions.

How true Scorpion87. To me, the new Mortal Kombat seems something like an ongoing "Brutality" effect. Not to disparage the newer games, I'm just not into that type of game play.

If your talking about the fighting pace then I really agree with you.
Most of the games now are slow paced and you have time to think about what your doing. MK2 for example would be very fast paced and the computer doesnt give you time to think. Which is challenging.

Right badboy, it is about the pace of the fighting game. But what is it specifically in MK 2 that is faster than in the new MK games? I wonder if it is the speed of the attacks or the special moves. I'm not sure about this because I haven't played any Mortal Kombat in a while.

It was not ness. to bump your thread. :x

BTW, I think the newer MKs are just like the old... Except in 3D instead of digital what-you-call-it and with a more advanced fighting system. Really, I prefer the old ones, but not for the 'feel', just the replay value and the memories.

I figured I would get more of a response. Hey, I reeled you in if that means anything...

Well Angel, the old MK was great for it's time in my opinion. I just don't appreciate the direction the new MK has taken. Do you really think it's the same 'feel' between the new MK and the old?

Well I dont think they could go the same pace from MK2 if they are in 3D. It would be tough to be putting faster stuff in there.

I view each new game differently to the previous ones in the series. This is going to be different to explain... BAre with me... :?

Classic MK carried a certain 'feel' yes, but each classic MK game didn't have the SAME feel as each other. You can keep the general MK feel and you can have the classic/new feel... But there is a different level of 'feel' that all the games carry that makes them the same...

I'd explain it further but its wierd.

Its really hard to explain. I feel no different for playing the older game to the new. The difference is literally replay and memory values. Why I say I do not play them for the 'feel' because they ALL have that same certain level of 'feel' in all the games.

i know--the new MK games feel like im controlling a 900 lb killing machine that's slow as molasses. old ones are light as paper and BRING THE PAIN

THere was definately a feel. For me it wasn't there really until UMK3 (and MK3 to an extent). Before that it was a slow game. MK2 was a turtle fest and seems like it got more gameplay because of how cool it looked and how much time they spent on the fatalities. MK3 and UMK3 had that amazing gameplay that no other MK game had. I think there are 3D fighters out there that capture the speed and precision of UMK3, just not MK games because they aren't being designed to be top notch fighting games so much as visual experiences full of bells and whistles. Honestly the game that captures the crazy speed, precision and control possible in UMK3 the best would be VF4e.

Good call kold_as_ice, little do you realize you just gave me an inspiration here...my thanks.

Not that MK2 isn't a good game, but I wonder if it doesn't hold a special place in our MK loving hearts for being the only MK game to be radically different than the one before it.

I remember when MK2 hit arcades, we all thought MK1 was the best game we'd ever see in our lifetimes and when 2 came out, everyone was  .

MK2>MK3 not only wasn't as much of an improvement, a lot of people saw it as a downgrade. UMK3 and MKT just built off of MK3, and even now MK: D is just a build off of MK:DA.

False. MKDA is radically different from MK4.

But your point is still valid. Many of us compare games unfairly to MKII because we have such fond memories of it.

To the others in this thread I have simply to say this... MK is evolving as a fighting game franchise into something more realistic, at least in terms of general mechanics... The new MK games are simply a different type of game from the old 2D beat-em-ups... If you prefer the old to the new, that's fine, but let's not compare apples to oranges....

I have to agree.

The basics of the classics is there... The characters... The plots... The history. But if you don't let a series evolve it will disappear. Most of the games I liked once upon time no longer exist because they were not able to do that... :(

MK4 isn't that different from MK:DA, they both are 3D fighters that introduce weapons to the MK experience. The only difference is that graphics technology is vastly improved since MK4 came out.
