That video was touching. However, I do wonder if the dogs happen to know each beforehand, which may have been motivation in helping the other dog out. Helping out family and friends is one thing, but when it comes to helping strangers, most people become more hesitant.

It is probably highly likely that the two dogs were related in some way.

Kin Selection, is ecology and science' way of describing altruism in animals. Blood relations in a lot of species are more likely to protect each other, than strangers. Kin Selection also explains why people are usually very protective over their children as well (as most animals are).
