Shang Tsung. Newbie help.

Hey guys,

I've just started getting into fighting games with this series of MK. I've played the onces before it, but just played through story and stuff like that. I'm dabbling in the multiplayer and feel a bit silly when I'm playing against people who are competent with more than one character. My main is Raiden, and hes pretty much all I use. I'm looking to find that one or two other characters that I can at least dabble on.

Anyway..

Does playing Shang Tsung require an uderstanding for all the characters combo abilities? Because of the soul steal move he has..

Is there a guide on Shang Tsung other than the one sticky'd on this forum? The guide is a big help, but I'll read any information I can get my hands on..

Any tips with Shang Tsung?

I don't use Soul Steal THAT much and I survive pretty well. I juggle with fireballs a lot.

My most used combo is f3,4,db4,df4,EXdf4,du4 or soul steal if I can get it off. The first hit in this hits low.

If your opponent is persistently crouch blocking, you can start a good combo with b2,du2(this fireball staggers them, then follow up with any good combo) or alternatively this combo: (third hit hits overhead) b1,2,1,du4,db4,df4 or EX or add the final kick to this and then df4, df4EX.



I love playing as Shang Tsung, so fun use. =)

So I hear.. I'm not extremely new. I still would like to learn how to dabble around with him. Even if its a slow learning curve.

Everything Shang does is around his fireballs. It's really easy to juggle with ground skulls, which can lead into his xray. Up close his options are limited to soul stealing. Once you steal, just adapt to the other character's fighting styles.

Thanks for the advice.

When you soul steal, do your combos stay the same as Shang without a soul? Or if I Soul Steal into raiden, is it just his special moveis I get?

If you were to steal Raiden's soul you would be playing Raiden for a brief period. You would have his combos, his specials, everything.

Good luck with Shang Tsung, I've been wanting to learn him every since I saw Alex Valle rock him (the guy's beastly with Shang). I've had trouble, but I'm takin' it slow lol. Shang Tsung is so different from every other character (yet rather similar if you wanna get cute about his Soul Steal lol) and it's taking me awhile to adapt to him.
 
I would say tsung does require a lil bit of knowledge of every character. Because let's say u don't know squat about Johnny cage but you are fighting one with stung. Btw I play stung also. Now ur doing combos and what not but this guy is good but he happens to suck at mirror matches so what do u do? Lol soul stealfor the win. That's the reason picked up so many characters cause I wanted to know their weaknesses and learn then for stung. His soul steal is absolutely amazing. Remember soul stealing gives you a damage boost also. For example I was play a really good max player and everyone knows jaxes X-ray is stupid beastly. 41%. I was down alot of life but I had xray built up for a comeback. I used stungs forward 3 4 into db3 fireball and stole his soul. Waited for him to retaliate and used his own dray against him. Damage was about 59 or something. Instant kill lol another time I was fighting a quanchi and stole his soul did a damage boost with quan chis skeletal boost X-ray damage was 67 68 if I remember correctly so learn them characters. Just 2 combos each. One that does decent damage and one that combos into or out of X-ray :)
