In case anyone has been living under a rock, a new Lord of the Rings game is coming out tomorrow called Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. It is an open world action game taking place between the Hobbit and the Fellowship of the Ring. The game has you play as Talion as you build an orc army to fight Sauron as he moves back into Mordor. Talion is killed at the beginning but is resurrected by a wraith, so you get a cool combination of wraith and ranger powers. The game has received incredibly high reviews by critics everywhere.

what is the gameplay like? does it it play like batman? AC? or god of war?

Just got it for PC about an hour ago. Combat is very much like Batman, not only with counters but with ground takedowns and executions as well. Exploration feels very much like AC. Running about and parkouring, hell there are even little towers that you can climb to activate them and reveal side missions in the area (sound familiar?).

However a gameplay mechanic that is unique to SoM that is really ****ing cool is the intel system with finding out about captains (identity, weaknesses, strengths etc) through interrogating their grunts and underlings.

Ive only played it for an hour so cant say TOO much, but all in all seems like a pretty solid open world game.

So not so much button mash combat like God of war is, but more batman style technique. Is it like an RPG?
