I was familiar with the movie name but I really didn't know much about it. It wasn't a large film, grossing around $38,000,000 worldwide in the box office. I was checking out(IGN.com and the} were rating movies of the year and so forth - the movie Serenity won around 3 categories on their website so I decided to check it out.

Wow!

Great sci-fi movie. It's directed by Joss Whedon (Comic writer, creator of the Buffy and Angel T.V. series). The movie is actually based on a rather unsuccessful Sci-fi TV series created by Joss called Firefly. I had never heard of it and neither had most people as it was canceled after about 14 episodes or so. I guess there was a large fanbase though as the DVDs sold well - well enough for Universal to create a movie.

The movie takes place about 500 years from now where Earth has been abanondoned due to overpopulation and it's limited supply of natural resources being used up, so humans colonized another solar system and managed to Terraform (make uninhabital planets habitable) surrounding planets. The movie focuses on the crew of the ship Serenity. There are 6 crew members who are harboring a runaway government (Federation) experiment - a 17 year girl named River who is a psychic and lethal, yet confused and crazy, living weapon who knows a great Federation Secret. The story is basically about the Federation sending an Agent to get her back and the Serentiy crew stopping them.

The amazing thing about this movie is that it's very well directed. Well done. There are not a load of special effects and the ones that are in fit the movie well. The characters are likeable and ALL of them have story and depth. It doesn't just seem like a rag tag bunch thrown together to tell a mediocore story. You actually come to like these characters. Joss does a great job writing, as he always has, and the movie comes to life as an exciting, funny, and compellingly gripping story.

Check it out. I don't like most movies but I loved this one. It's called Serentiy. You can pick it up for $20 (new release) or 'try' and rent it - hard to do as they are all rented out though!

I've seen the movie in theaters and bought the DVD. It's a great movie and to anyone who plans on going DVD shopping or just wants to pivk a movie up to see, should get Serenity.

I guess this is the first time I don't agree with you Chupa, I didn't like it as much as you did. I didn't feel any attachment to the Characters. The story was pretty good, mainly the Intro . Don't know, I just didn't enjoyed it as much as I wished for. I also read the reviews and mainly the ones at Ign.com that convinced me to give it a try.

I loved the movie, but I also watched the TV shows on DVD before I saw the movie. So the attachment to the characters is even more developed. My friends saw the movie with me, but never saw the TV shows first. So their attachment to the characters was little to none, but then they saw the series and really loved the movie even more.

Every sci-fi fan should rent/borrow/buy the TV series and then buy the movie to continue the adventures.
