Yeah, it's kinda hard to pick from two such cool characters. But it's like this. I love Mustard [cyrax] on my Hot Dogs and Tomato Ketchup [sektor] on my Steak & Fries.

Simple! Lol.

Cyrax is my favorite of the two overall. I've spent countless hours using Cyrax in MK3 & MKT.

In MK3 I was using Cyrax from the word go but as I got better at the game and the combo's I started to prefer Sektor's moves more. I've noticed there are a lot of Cyrax fans out there, not surprising considering his playability in mk3 but as far as I'm concerned there is little difference between either of them. That said, having to choose I would go with Sektor only because I was the only one of my group of friends able to play him properly.

Way back in the mid 90's when MK3 was big in the arcades, I saw many people using Smoke, Cyrax and Sektor. More people used those 3 characters than any other when challenging the computer. Except of course, Subzero and Sindel. What do all of these characters have in common? [except sektor]

They all have disabling moves.

Cyrax = Plasma Net [cheesy as all shit]

Smoke = Harpoon [more cheese]

Sektor = [teleport punch, mild cheese]

Hey, I like these players. And I'm not knocking them, but in classic MK any character who could set up his opponents for a free combo was mint.

Hell yeah. Stun moves rule. Just imagine where the hell Mortal Kombat would be without moves like the harpoon and deep freeze. Actually, come to think of it, pretty much all of my favorite characters have at least one of those types of moves. Eerie.

Mortal Kombat without stun moves would suck. Imagine kabal without his Spin Dash? That's one of the greatest stun moves in MK, ever! And what's more, it gives you plenty of time to run in for the kill!

I know one combo that you would have used in MK2 with Kitana?

Fanlift, Jump Kick, Fan Throw, Square Wave Punch. Am I right? Trouble is after that particular combo, you get pushed back. Otherwise you could follow it up quickly with another kick, even just a standing kick. Because after that long combo she would have pushed her opponent into or near a corner.

One of my favs was - Hop Kick, Fan Throw then run in and uppercut. Only near the corners and timing was crucial.

Yep, that's the money combo. But just the jump kick/fan throw in general was a seriously deadly thing to master, especially once you got the timing perfect and could pull it off like it was a reflex. Man, Kitana owned that game.

Indeed, she was once labelled "The Queen of the Air" in an article I read on MK2. But enough off topic, this is about Sektor and Cyrax. Lol.

What are some combos you used to like doing with them, dude?

I'm a staff member, though. I'm allowed to go off-topic.

I never really played a whole lot as either character, actually, though I liked trying to see just how many bombs I could chain together in a combo with Cyrax, but there weren't any specific combos I used. Of course in MK Gold, my favorite thing to do as Sektor was just to continually hit the opponent with teleport punches, 'cause you could chain like 3 or 4 together in a row before it'd be disabled and the opponent could recover. He was my go-to guy when I just wanted a win and didn't care about being immensely cheap to get that win.

On a sort of side-note, I always thought Sektor's homing missile was fricking genious.

Cyrax is fun to confuse your human opponents with in classic MK. I can do many juggles with him and against the computer it's even more fun. The computer A.I is so damn predictable, man. Sextoys teleport was the stuff in MKGold. When stringing together multiple teleport punches, they seem to just flow as one almost.

Sextoys homing missile looked better in MKGold than in previous games I reckon. And yes, launching multiple homing missiles would panic alot of human opponents. It's so funny seeing them scrambling for cover, so to speak.

I consider Sektor to be one of the best MK3 characters, if not overall. He puts a lot of pressure on his opponents with the homing missle combined with straight missles and teleport punches. I think Cyrax is harder to use more efficiently though. He is however more accessible in general to novices due to his net.

While I really do like Cyrax as a character more, I do have to give it up for Sektor's missles and teleporting uppercut move. I also must admit that I find Sektor embracing his lack of humanity to be interesting. Out of spite however, I hope he regains his humanity at the end of Armageddon. :p

Going back to the Defenders of the Realm cartoon, I'm not going to dispute the authenticity of the show, but much like Sektor, they also portrayed Cyrax in his human form. The only problem is that Cyrax was white. :p Perhaps that show inspired Midway all the same to reveal that Cyrax was black in MK: Gold.

Personally, I've always fancied Sektor as being the old Lin Kuei leader that was in Mythologies: Sub-Zero. However, I'm not sure if that guy is even alive still. The game is insanely hard so I've never played all the way through. It would make a lot of sense as to why the clan went so gung-ho on cyborgs all of a sudden though.
