I remember one time someone on this forum started arguing with me saying "that's my opinion/assumption" or something along those lines, in regards to the whole 25 years thing. Never has my jaw dropped that much while reading on the Internet.

I know!!!!Ed has clearly said it at least twice that there would be jumps in time.Multiple jumps in time and the only thing people heard was ,"blah blah blah blah Cassie blah blah 25 years in the future"
So I was wrong and the ladder WILL be the summary of all time jumps, which is weird considering the individual interactions they created. And I guess it does mean TWELVE new characters, and I'm going to be really disappointed if both Sonya & Johnny take up valuable spots. And now it's also even unlikely that DA-D-A get represented by one character each...

the interactions between old and new characters wont be that weird.
Ed Boon said that even clones will interact with each other. That's the part i find interesting
i really hope at least one character from both Deadly Alliance and Deception make it.
They need to fix whats broken before they go and throw a bunch of new stuff in there. And id also like some explanation as to why all the 3D characters will be out of the story this time around. dont just leave them out with nothing to say about them, at least give us some cameos...
I hope so too but we only have 8 spots left and the likely scenario is:
1. Johnny Cage
2. Liu Kang
3. Sonya Blade
4. Quan Chi
5. Ermac/Reptile/Kitana/Mileena/Cyrax/Sektor/Baraka
6. Fujin/another MK4 character
7. Havik/Sareena
8. ??? - one from the above 4 possibilities

I hoped for ladders from time. Scorpion, Raiden, Shinnok, Onaga (if present), Edenians, Outworlders...you can fight them anytime, some are already dead, others are immortals, and others live too long.
I will find strange if Sonya (if present and young) fight Cassie, like they were from the same time. Even if we have a variation where Sonya is older, maybe I can think that the younger one has better tricks to that fight, what would make strange.
Unless there is a cutscene like "oh, you traveled to the past, Cassie!", but would sound very weird.
And I liked the clone thing, finally we will fight a mirror match not pretending is just gameplay.

Sektor is very important. The Outer World Investigation Agency, which Cassie can be part of it, was a big rival of the Tekunin.
By the end of MK9, it's hinted that he acquires the Medallion (it would be partially canon, because he didn't defeat Shao Kahn).
On Sub-Zero's variation there is the Grandmaster, and he has a Medallion (with the Lin Kuei symbol, but who knows they rebooted it too...).
I don't know about Cyrax, but Sektor should be in.

Lol dude it's a video game. Logic isn't supposed to come into play here. With what you're saying, in WWE 2K14, if someone chooses The Rock, then no one can choose his Retro Version.

It's not exaclty like that.
Story mode mode must have a logic, and of course arcade is just for fun, but it's for sure weird.
Would also be weird to fight with Classic The Rock with a today's fighter, not impossible but weird, but WWE lacks the thinking job of a story like MK series.
Even Street Fighter lacks this. And for being a video game, we must have at the least a floor to step in.

How so?
MKX will take place in different times, so young and older variations for Sonya and Johnny are possible in the select screen.
It's similar to the way that dead Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Kitana, Kabal, Smoke, Jade, Jax, Sindel, Nightwolf, Shang Tsung, Noob Saibot and Cyber Sub Zero were still playable in MK9.
I agree with him though, until now the ladder was THE storyline and now the main plot is some time jumpy, flashbacky thing with the ladder relegated to the whole cast jumping at each other. It is a disappointment, also the fact that we will have separate chapters where we first play with Sonya then with Cassie. Fortunately the D'Vorah/Kotal Kahn storyline seems to be interesting enough and the time jump will work in favor of Scorpion's & Sub-Zero's plotlines.

All I know is that it would be a shot in the face to the fans if we dont get the same size roster at least as MK9,I dont care how many variations they have,the bottom line is if you're gonna introduce that many new kharacters then u need to make sure you have enough of the klassic kharacters for the ppl who arent into the new ones. I think 30 would be the perfect size right now with at least 8 DLC kharacters and I hope we get some fatality packs this time cuz I love this new gore tech

Up until MK vs. DC, where the "Story Mode" for MK was the Arcade Ladder, the ladder included not just your character's enemies, but also the friends. So that's why I don't see the big deal if Cassie has to fight Sonya in ladder mode.
In the STORY MODE, with the chapters, obviously it doesn't make sense, and besides it won't even happen.

The argument is stupid. Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Kitana, etc... are playable because the tournament take place before their death. Many of them died at the end of the tournament.

Same thing with MKX aging mortal characters.
Sonya is young during the end of MK9, and given that MKX begins shortly after MK9 takes place, a younger alt version / costume is very possible.
Just because Sonya can get older in year 25 doesn't mean that a younger year 5 alt (for example) isn't possible for ladder or versus mode.
