Spoilers ahead:
Well first off, I love the Resident Evil Games, mainly the 1st original game and hopefuly RE4. The movie start were the first one left off, Alice in the middle of a chaotic Raccoon City.
This time around Umbrella corp is about to sanatize the city and evacuating the uninfected ones before that but things goes bad and all remaining citizens and rescue teams, like S.T.A.R.S to give an example, are left behind in this chaos.
You learn about Mr. Ahford, responsible for the virus, that he was creating a cure for his daughter, and she didn't succesfuly escape Raccoon City and she is somewhere in the middle of the city, which it is explained earlier. Mr. Ashford contact Alice and other people to tell them that the first ones rescuing his daughter, will be told how to get out of the city before it get sanatized.
You also get Carlos and Jill (with her totally out of place uniform). I think being dressed like that was totally unecessary, even the videogame didn't do that.
A good thing is that you get to know more about the Background story of Alice, which I think was the good a probably the best part of the movie.
Zombies? Yes there are Zombies but not unlike Dawn of the dead or 28 Days later. They are boring and unscary.
One thing that annoyed me a lot about this movie is all the Matrixesques moves (Witch I love a lot btw), slowmotion,....If they are going to "copy" it, at least they should do it right or at least try to be original. The fight scenes aren't very exciting, specially the one of Alice vs the Nemesis The one everyone is expecting surely. The shots are just plain terrible
An Easter egg:
There is one scene taken from RE Code Veronica's Intro; the one with the chopper shooting at the building and Claire Redfield running to avoid the bullets and then she get surounded by Umbrella's guards, drops the gun and quickly falls on the ground catching the gun and shooting and gas tank near the guards blowing them.
Here it is exacly the same thing except that it is with Alice and there are only three guards and she shoots them directly while falling.
You want to know witch one of the to scene is better? Easy answer; the Videogame one hands down, more intense, tight, more dramatic,...
When are we going to get a good Videogame to film adaptation?
I fear for my beloved videogame series which is Metal Gear Solid. I fear the result of an adaptation
