Not all of the characters deserve a second chance.

Says who? Any character can be redeemed with some effort on the story, a revamped look and a unique moveset. You just need to be a little more open to new things. The only character I really can't see them doing anything with is Mokap, the rest have a lot of potential.

Are you honestly going to tell me that Kobra and Hsu Hao have any potential? I didn't say all post-UMK3 characters were bad, just a lot of them. I actively defend Shujinko and Cyber Sub-Zero from nay-sayers, and Kenshi, Shujinko, Havik Quan Chi, Tanya, Kai and Fujin are some of my favorite MK characters of all time. Reiko, Li Mei, Bo Rai Cho, Shinnok and Hotaru are ripe for revamps. But we have many characters along with much diversity already, let alone new characters that deserve much attention in order to fully flesh them out, so not every 3D era kombatant can be revamped; filler characters like the aforementioned Hsu Hao and Kobra that don't belong in MK nor can they provide any relevant contributions to the story and character roster, need to be axed completely, period.

The MK series is moving forward, and MK9 proves that. The MK3 characters who have gotten mixed reception from fans for a long time (Stryker and Nightwolf) have gotten much better with this reboot, yes, but that doesn't mean every character that wasn't very well-liked in the past have a place in the series now. Look at Sheeva. People didn't really like her in MK3 or Armageddon, and they don't now in MK9. She served almost no purpose in the story other than getting her ass kicked by everybody. Her gameplay isn't exactly stellar, either. She alone, IMO, proves that you can give some crap characters all of the time in the world to flesh them out and try to make them likeable to fans, and even then, they'll still end up being crap. Jarek also got a revamp in Armageddon and still ended up being terrible (to be fair, there were 56 characters in the game). Like I said, MK is moving forward. Some things just need to be left in the past, with a lot of the post-Trilogy being a prominent example of this.

Hsu Hao and Kobra should be plot devices, not playable.
They could make cameos as people in a Deception-like Konquest Mode who need you to do tasks for them and will give you a reward upon completing them. Only then, IMO, would they have some use.

That made me chuckle. I'm all for giving characters a second chance, but these two just make me cringe. I'd love to see people like Reiko, Shinnok, Ashrah, Shujinko, et al get some real time and effort put into making them strong fighters and characters. Kobra and Hsu Hao...ugh, I know it's hypocritical to not wish the same for them, but it's so difficult for me to wish them well in any way, shape, or form lol. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised by their revamped characters if that happens sometime down the road though.

Before I heard about Tremor, I liked Hsu Hao.

He was supposed to be the pseudo Jax, plus his thunderclap was an awesome move.

But now I think Tremor should take on that role.

Hsu Hao, IMO, is one of the worst character designs in existence for a video game, not just one of the worst MK characters. I cannot express my sheer hate for him. At least Kobra is just an evil, useless clone of a great character from another series. But Hsu Hao? He's just... there. No ambition at all, no personality at all; he's just there to be a lap dog for another hack of a character. IMO, his heart laser is honestly somewhat of an insult to my intelligence. I like characters to be unique, but his heart laser can really only be appreciated by little kids and people with very simplistic tastes (not that there's anything wrong with that). It's like Midway just went and said, "Hey guys, here's a new character! He's a Red Dragon member! With a heart laser! Enjoy!"

I hope to God that we never see him again.

I'd definitely like to give Tanya, Fujin, Reiko, or Li Mei a chance as a DLC character. Maybe...MAYBE Jarek or Kai...

The rest of the post Trilogy characters do not appeal to me at all.

It's not like they have to change much in Rain. He's been unique in every game he's been introduced so...

As for crappy characters, do not bring Kira, the most useless character ever.

I'm really hoping Rain becomes a bigger character when MK10 comes out. Seeing his character evolve can be great for the revamped story continuing. Especially if he comes to power after Quan Chi and Shinnok.

I really like Rain and hope NRS does good with him, but from the way he looks I'm positive Rain won't dissapoint anyone.

Don't be so sure. Sheeva looked great as well and she turned out to be one of the not-so-great characters. Both story and gameplay-wise.

It felt like they PURPOSELY wanted her to suck so everyone would hate her and they wouldn't feel the need to bring her back. They may very well do that to Rain. Obviously they didn't care about him enough to throw him into the game to begin with... so there's a chance they may have him be uber suckage.

I honestly hope not. I love the idea of Rain and with a little thought, he could be just as good as the other ninjas.

Sheeva actually doesn't suck.

She just plays differently than everyone else.
She doesn't rely on zoning or combos.

I didn't say she sucked. I said she was "not-so-great". Which, imo, I don't think she is. But she doesn't suck. There are worse. She's just difficult to get used to. Which probably wasn't the best decision considering she's been on thin ice with fans for a while. Unless of course they want people to not like her.

I understand where you're coming from.

They made her less relevant than ever in the series.
I think she literally had 3 lines of dialogue in the story.

Plus I also find it strange that Rain wasn't included.
Seeing how both Rain and Ermac are from the same game, but only one of them got in.

WHOA you should not even place Kai in the same level as Jarek! Kai has alot of potential and was originally suppose to replace Lui Kang! The chance was never given to him after MK4 however. Now we might get to see something better with him in the future hopefully.

Also Rain FTW

Cant wait to get some practice in with Kenshi and Rain when they come

Why does it annoy you? Rain/Ermac/Mileena were my favorites since they were first released, and I loved when they both were fleshed out and hugely popular after Deception and I'm happy Rain is starting to be taken more seriously and has a huge fanbase. The fact that they are popular means NRS is doing something right with them.

Annoys me in the sense I dislike mirror matches against people who pick him simply because he's easy to use. Not a big deal really, and I suppose the presence of Scorp/Sub/Raiden/KL softens it a bit...

But back on topic, they need to come with that Rain concept art already!

On the contrary it seems they are taking more time w/Dlc characters, Skarlet for instance shows no signs of laxed effort. Besides every other male ninja is *generally on par with eachother, why not Rain. Atleast that's my viewpoint.

I didn't like Hsu Hao either, very very bad character design.

Like others have said, he should be used as background noise. A plot device and nothing more. Let him be apart of Mavado's story, but not actually playable(like how Montaro was in MK9).

No Mavado either please...
