Resurrection I can appreciate in a weird way. It's a very dark and screwy film (that tries to blend in a little bit of the Aliens feel for some reason) and has one of my favorite movie monsters ever... The hybrid alien. I loved that f****** thing so much I bought a statue of it. Truly disturbing looking creature and its death scene really bothered me as a kid. I had no idea if I should pity it or be glad it was dying. It's god awful cries as it reached out to Ripley was haunting.
Yes, perfectly put!
I also thought I was the only one who appreciated the Hybrid. I thought it was the highlight of the film. We saw enough Aliens at that point in the series. Something new like that was a fresh breath of air.
Something I noticed is AvPR barrowed the Hybrid's screams for the Wolf Predator's roar. Kind of odd but pretty cool I guess.
So I've been hearing that Scott's making Alien: Covenant. Sounds awesome but its suppose lead in to a new series continued with District 9's director. And the worst part is he plans to continue the series with an Aliens sequel. Meaning their ignoring everything that happened with Alien3 and onward. This is what makes me want to hate Aliens. Pffft.
Its kind of like how Predators' director commentary neglect Predator 2 in its continuity. Predator 2, another under appreciated master piece. Thankfully Predator 4 will correct that bullshit.
I actually loved Alien 3 to be honest AND the directors cut... Resurrection was FUN, as was AVP... But AVP:R ... terrible..
AvP was made by an Alien fanboy, and AvPR, despite what those guys said, favored Predator.
AvP was a much better crafted film (directing, acting, overall quality) but featured watered down, garbage version of those monsters we loved. Those Predators? Those weren't Predators. Looked like football players with garden hoses for hair. That film was a sloppy fun mess but it frustrates me watching it as a Predator fan. Anderson really didn't do them justice.
Now AvPR had rookie directors and it really shows. But we get a phenomenal Predator. At that point, Ian White had the moves down, you'd swear it was Kevin Peter Hall (the original two Predators) in the suit. The Straus brothers really focused on making all the affects, creatures, violense and what not feel faithful to the original films of these two franchises. Something the first AvP film did miserably. But on the other hand, you get this really bad acted film that seemed to be shot in pitch black by two children. I seriously have to turn my brightness to max to actually see the film.
So both AvP films have their cons and pros. I'd rather watch AvPR just because the much better Predators and all those nastolgic affects that pay homage to the originals.
AvP is still a great concept that's been poorly executed each time. Hopefully someone will come along, see its potential and finally make a good one.
