So how many of you CE people are switching over to the TE? I might get the CE also but my TE is already preordered.

I changed my Pre-Order to the Kollector's Edition, last night at GameStop.

Twas 11 days before Christmas:

As I was changing my Pre-Order for the Kollector's edition, the store cleck told me: "Do you know that Kratos is in it?"

This guy was you casual videogame player that didn't know diddly squat, when it comes to Mortal Kombat.

With a smug grin, trying to be polite, I said: "Yeah."
"Oh, and did you know that THIS Mortal Kombat is a retelling of the first 3 games, with MK 1 thru 3 characters and backgrounds, and X-Ray moves that show internal damage???"
He totally forgot about Kratos.
His face lit up like a f****** Christmas Tree, and he said: "I didn't know they were remaking that era of Mortal Kombat like that.
Now I'm definitely going to Pre-Order this game."

You see, people don't need to be told that Kratos is in the game, to garnish more fanbase for MK 9.
As soon as you tell someone that it's a retelling of the first 3 games, the whole idea of Kratos goes out the proverbial window.
From my experience last night (and friends who don't follow Mortal Kombat), this is exactly why I DON'T think that Kratos was needed for marketing purposes.
You tell MK fans and Non-MK Fans alike that it's a retelling of the first 3 games with X-Ray moves, MK 1 thru 3 characters and Mk 1 thru 3 backgrounds, and they will come out in droves.

People have been waiting for a return to the old days of Mortal Kombat, for a LONG TIME.

On the flip side I have a friend who plays MK with me (doesnt buy them) and once I told him that Kratos is going to be in thePS3 version he said "I have to play with Kratos so I am going to get the PS3 version".

At the risk of turning this into another Kratos thread, I'll give just one reply.

What Araknyd03 said is what I've been saying all along. Whether it's a casual MK fan or just a curious GoW fan, this game will completely suck them in, because it has definitely got the goods. It's truly going to be the rebirth of MK, and for anyone who remembers it when it first blew up, it's going to happen all over again. For all our Kratos arguments, mark my words, he'll be nothing but an afterthought.
I can't wait for this game to come out.

With what Araknyd said, I believe WB was the one who put NR up to this whole guest character thing. I mean, if the casual gamer is able to appreciate MK for MK, and not the Kratos feature, surely NR studios would also realize this. This is just a money making ploy for WB, IMO.

Or Boon just genuinely wanted him in.
ANYWAY haha...

Now about those pre-order editions...

I ordered the KE, though seeing the TE stick confirmed the button layout enough that I can finish my 2nd custom stick...with some variations. I went with Gamestop, but hoping all of the fatalities/skins are available for DLC at some point...love me some Reptile head snacking!

Wait, you're making your own stick?

Gamestop Canada still does not have the Kollector's Edition and Tourney Editions available on their systems yet... They do however have the scorpion skin, original fatality, sneak peak at fatalities in the game and if you pre-order the by December 19th, Mortal Kombat the movie DVD will be yours as well, all for the standard edition. Canadians who want the movie for free should pre order by this coming Sunday and when the Kollector's edition and Tournament Edition becomes available, upgrade your pre order to that if you want.

Does anyone know who has the exclusive to the classic Sub-Zero skin and Fatality? I know gamestop has Scorpion and Amazon has Reptile...

Post pictures of the arcade stick once your done.
I'm curious to see you button layout.

Supposedly, the button layout at PAX for PS3 was as follows:

Front Punch
Back Punch
Front Kick
Back Kick
X-Ray
Tag Button

EDIT: Forgot to add the BLOCK button to that list.

GAMESTOP = Scorpion
BEST BUY = Sub Zero
Amazon.com = Reptile

if it weren't for the old MK button layout on that stick, it would be an easy sell. This makes it a bit hard to play other fighters with, or even some shooting games.

They would sell a lot more if it was a straight 6-button layout + run button. Then, this stick would be attractive to anyone who uses sticks and still be compatible with old MKs that use run.

Someone on twitter had asked Pako Stevens this:
MKUtweets said:
Is that a run button on MK9 Kollectors edition stick?

To which he replied:

In Mortal Kombat 2011 it functions as a tag button, keeps it backwards/forwards-compatible with older/future MK games.

Meaning that for older games (MK3, UMK 3 and Trilogy) it would be the "Run" button, and for MK 9 it would be the "Tag" button.

Yeah I saw that. I just wish I could use this in other games like SF, KI, MVC, etc. Right now it's (mostly) a dedicated MK stick :(

Do you think all the preorder skins and fatalities will eventually be DLC? For example if I preorder from best buy to get the Sub Zero stuff do you think the scorpion and reptile will be DLC?

Yes, it makes financial sence for them to release them all later.

I actually really want the Tournament Edition, see I don't have an arcade stick and haven't had one since Nintendo so it would be awesome to have one that says Mortal Kombat and the buttons are configured in the way they think best. In the end it will come down to if I can Pre Order it fast enough but I can't do that until I get some cash.

I'm going to buy the Kollector's because i've known MK as a console game. On top of that the Tournament Edition is limited so i wouldn't want to take away from some one who knows MK as an arcade game.

With my current situation, I can only hope for the standard game. Otherwise, I would get the Kollector's edition, since I'm not going to get much out of a joystick.

Wait, you're making your own stick?

Yeah man, it's in progress! Sanwa JLF joystick and Seimitsu buttons...I'm making this stick with a more spread out button layout, just like the TE stick. My first stick is similar, but the buttons are a little to close together. I'll post a few pics tomorrow (PC @ home is down, and can't upload from my phone).
