Official MK9 Demo Thread

Surely its faster than MK vs. DC though? If it is, then I shall be okay. And its good to know that my boy scorpion is gonna be fun to use, thanks Jade! BTW, I hate the announcer too, why the **** does he have to say each quote in different tones? KEEP IT ONE TONE NRS!!!

It's about the same as MK vs DCU. A bit too slow for me :/

I like the announcer. He sounds good on my new speakers, so I'm totally okay with him. [He's no Steve Richie, but no one but Steve himself is.]

The team did a great job on the damage scaling for the x-ray links. Also, I did a few combos that seemed endless from scorpion, but after popping the opponent up a second time, it wiffs and the opponent falls down. That means we may not have ridiculous infinites in the final game. And I too got that black line from scorpions spear, weird glitch.

Why cant you save your control configuration.u can change it but it doesnt save?

It does save. Once you pick your fighter on the character select screen you have to hit the square button, I believe to bring up the options menu - from there you have to change the controller config from default to a preset.

Here's my 2 cents about the demo. Overall I'm very pleased with the game. You can see what care and love NRS put in to this game, as the visuals of the fighters, backgrounds, and menu/tower/select/ screens are top-notch. Load times are very good, but like orbofuncreation mentioned the gameplay does seem a bit slow, but I think the speed along with the voices and music will be tweeked and fixed before the release. The one thing that really stood out for me is that NRS tailor made this game for the Stereo 3D visuals...it looks so amazing. If you are lucky enough to own a 3D TV and love MK, then you'll be in for a major treat. Anyway, I've waited a long time to play this demo and Im so happy to say that the amount of money that I have shelled out for this game is well worth it. Can't wait to see all the fighters, bosses, secrets and modes that the game is gonna have on April 19th.

Since I haven't played a MK game to any real extrent since UMK3 here's my quick review. The game does remind me of the original 2D MK's with the exception of the controls. Obviously I knew they weren't going only include LP, HP, LK, HK and Block but, for me the controls are going to take some getting used to.

The combos are fun, I'm glad they're not like MK3 where you had to memorize a a ton of buttons.

The announcer SUCKS!! I really hope they do something before the game is launched. Actually i'm not a real big fan of the sound period. The fight sounds are good but i'm running PCM uncompressed sound though my surround sound and it sound like a mono game. Oh and the sound for when you pull off a fatality move is pretty bad too. Bring back the MK2 sound. Hell, even MK1 would be better.

The blood and gore does seem a bit toned down, I wonder if its because its the demo and its free for anyone to download.

As far as the game it seems pretty quick, but then feel like the characters slow down. Its like they have a burst of energy but then have to slow down. Hard to explain but i'm sure somone knows what I mean.

Over all I like it so far and can't wait for April 19th!

Hey, I didn't say that lol! Actually I haven't even played the demo since I HAVE A F'N 360! :)

He's there, I got him in the Living Forest when I was Scorpion and did an uppercut on Mileena.

Oh, my bad. My eyes must be blurry from playing the demo for a while (that damn 3D always does that to me lol!). It was THE PIT that actually said it and you was commenting on his post. Sorry, I made a mistake......hopefully the 360 will have it next week.

Thoroughly impressed myself. The presentation is top notch, though it looks to be an older build than GDC's but the gameplay is definitely solid and doesn't feel awkward (did I detect a hint of QAA? The output is 1080p too). Once I started doing cancels and experimented with some combos, it's poetry in motion and quite speedy comparable to SFIV I'd say.

I haven't played enough to judge the balance of the game, but stuff like Scorpion's FP, FP, spear is not abusable. If you do it twice in a row, the second spear will drag and trip the opponent.

I'll need to play more of it, but the initial reaction is great. The trailer at the end is great too (Shang Tsung's morphs do look great)

in any case, you all sound like you're too hyped at the moment to listen to reason anyway...

So because I simply disagree with your opinion about how this MK demo needs an online mode, I'm all of a sudden "too hyped at the moment to listen to reason"?

I really like how you jump to conclusions like that.

Anyway, found out another thing with the demo. They have the kombatant's fatalities and stage fatality inputs on their moves list. Though for Mileena's fatality when you highlight instead of fullscreen or sweep to indicate the distance you need to be in order to execute it, it says "Jump".

Official demo thread? It's so everyone clicks on his adsense ad.. check out first post. I'm posting in another forum.

Edit: Ahh looks like his adsense code got removed.

It means jump distance, jump from the opponent thats gonna be finished

Yeah, that's what I figured as well when I finally did it.

And it looks like with Sub-Zero it's a sweep distance, while Scorpion and Johnny Cage have a "Touching" distance.

Plus, they all have different inputs for stage fatalities (Ex. Mileena's is down down down square, while Sub-Zero's is towards down towards towards triangle).

Ok, tried out the demo. The speed is good, but I was expecting a little more. But I like how the focus is on defense AND offense. The damages are pretty balanced, and I like that some Xrays like Cage's are slower and harder to get off on the opponent because he is a stronger fighter overall.

Graphics are polished, movie at the end was very nice, announcer is OK, music IS pretty low (don't know if you can change volume of it), Dan Forden's Toasty! is awesome and in HD (but I think the head is actually smaller than the old games).

One thing that sucked in the beginning but is getting easier the more I play is the controls. Mostly, the inputs are like the classic moves, but there will have to be a lot of memorizing come 4/19. One control that is REALLY bad is Subzero's freeze, which is d, f, X (a kick button) instead of a punch button. Really sucks but I guess I have to get used to it. I wish we could change buttons for only certain moves, like that one, instead of changing the buttons for everything.

For anyone wondering, there is nothing extra if you beat the ladder on extreme difficulty without losing a round, and doing their fatality against every opponent. I tried. Unless you get something for doing an xray every round also, which I didn't manage to do. Johnny Cage is I think the strongest player out of the 4 for a beginner.

edit- loading times are AWESOMELY SHORT, and rematches are instant.
