Chapter 12-The Streets of Pripyat.
Back at the streets of Pripyat, more of these unexplained deaths started occuring on a frequent basis. Tomas, carefully observed and studied the bodies and realised that the bodies were very similar to the descriptions of the victims of the Japanese Myth on the smoke demon, about whom he had only read about in stories.
The Necromancers and Cultists of the Brotherhood at Earthrealm, sensed the demon's presence in at Pripyat and proceeded to the Ghost town. There they promised the various gangs that they would get rid of the horror in return for the living body of a young child, who would be sacrifised. Although the Cultists seemed to have good intentions, it was not really so. They had sought to enslave the demon during the ritual and force it to serve them as per their will. Tomas was captured and given to the cultists as part of their ritual, as he was the sole surviving child in the city. As he was tied to the pyre, he screamed with anger and pain as he was being burnt alive while cultists performed the ritual to trap the demon. The Enenra was pulled into the bonfire along with Tomas as the ritual progressed. Rage and anger filled the Enenra's very being, as his captors tried to enslave him. However, the Enenra saw the tormented body of Tomas screaming in pain and since their emotions were in tune, the enenra fused into Tomas's soul before the body burnt away fully leaving behind a black charred skeleton. Almost immediately a thick black smoke started hovering around the ritual site and started lashing out with rage at the cultists, mutilating them and filling their bodies with diabolic smoke and burning them inside out. The shapeless entity after having its revenge, withered away into oblivion.
Tomas latter found himself at the shores of an island, not remembering is name or who he was.The Lin Kuei had found the boy and codenamed the nameless boy as 'Smoke' due to the powers he exhibited. He then formed a friendship bordering that of brotherhood with another boy of his age codenamed Tundra (Kuai Liang who laters becomes Sub-Zero) who had powers of Ice. The two boys were able to connect and understand each other well as neither of them remembered their past and had extra-ordinary powers. The two grew up to be the deadliest assasins and warriors for the Lin Kuei and they had entered the Mortal Kombat tournament, at the end of which they were killed by Sindel, influenced by Shao Kahn.
When Smoke got revived back as per the wishes of Spectre Liu Kang, his rebirth triggered the oldest of his memories and he realised that he infact was a living demon. He then helped Sub-Zero to infiltrate the Lin Kuei Headquaters and defeat Sektor and together, they began changing the clan for the greater good. During this time the Lin Kuei Temples were being attacked more frequently than ever before by the Brotherhood of the Shadow led by Noob Saibot. Sub-Zero asked Smoke to seek out Spectre Liu Kang, who had knowledge about the city of Nekros(where the Brotherhood was stationed) which he had gained while he served Shinnok. Smoke also sought to learn more about his powers and he along with Spectre Liu Kang departed to the Netherealm to infiltrate the Brotherhood and learn the reason for their increased attacks.
