Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

When I'm being polite and state my two cents regarding the improvement of the looks and the mechanics of the game, calactyte ignores me. Furthermore, I found myself ridiculed in one of his posts, but I don't see anybody giving him a hard time about that. In fact, did anybody even react when he told that guy to jump in front of a car? You'd better think again before calling somebody 'an idiot' and 'a troll' cos you might be addressing the wrong person and you're being a jerk in the process as well.

Let me clear things up since I have obviously offended you. I said your post makes you look like and idiot and a troll, not that you are.

Personally, I don't dig Goro's statue. I feel like it could have been done better (Troll impression: could have been done better how?), but it doesn't really matter. (Idiot impression: If it doesn't matter then why post it?)

It's not terrible. Courtyard guard, however, is in desperate need of improvement! (Troll impression: What improvements?)

I criticized the same Goro statue a few pages back so I'm not saying you are worng I'm just saying that your post was not constructive. Clearly from you last post to Calactyte this is a personal matter against him; I kindly ask that you take that up with that man in PM before this thread gets ruined with name calling and thrash talk.

Being direct =/= Being a jerk

Also, if this post still offends you, there is a triangle with this insignia "!" at the bottom of this post; feel free to use it at anytime.

I was astounished at how Goro's estatue was SO CLOSE to the original clay figure/sprites. The size of muscles, extremities, everything was awesome. Yet I asumed Calactite just added some cracks into the statue at random... it was awesome to verify I was wrong and all cracks were done in a similar way to the original prop.

Throught this whole project I've been amazed at the level of detail both Bleed and Cal have been given. I am grateful for all the exitement I've felt without DOING ANYTHING, so...

I do feel the gameplay should be improved (hitboxes, better response, better balance and so on), and I had a few differences with them... because it is only natural ANYONE who become interested in this project will have his own criticism and ideas but...

I have very clear I am doing NOTHING and also... I am watching ALL PROGRESS (there are projects who work on close doors). I understand this is FOR FREE and also I totally get this is something that is sort of a miracle because it wasn't going to happen officially, and even if some day in the very far distance, WB decided to make it happen, it would SUCK. No questions about it.

So, I believe we should be very considerate and constructive with the team members because all the reasons exposed (by team members I mean those who actually do something for the project). I could just imagine how difficult it should be for them to keep this topic going on and on almost on daily basis because of real life issues.

So, ticroo: You have been a saboteaour to this topic and project because you're bringing up drama and critizing without consideration; this could be a let down to Cal or Bleed and... you know: Apreciation is all they're asking and all they need to keep going. It's the motivation that allow them to get up bet and do what Ed Boon never did each day and to go to bed sometimes very late, working or planning what to do.

Certainly this is a piece of art and the people working on this are ARTISTS, so please stop trying to put yourself at their level. Just contribute with your silence.

With that being said... I also thing the Court Guards could get an improvement... anything that gets an improvement is nice, but I find the team to be the best critics to their own work because they have learned (the hard way) when to STOP seeking for perfection. There is a time to move on for everything and I think that have been a MAJOR improvement in the way things are moving.

Sigh..., these pop up every so often.

Here's how I would deal with the situation.

When given a vague critique, someone says this sucks, that can be done better, etc.

Take a look and see if anything stands out. If not, ask for clarification in a non aggressive manner.

If none is given, ignore the user that is not helping.

Don't take it personal, avoid snappy comments that will give the other a reason to fire back.

I'll drop an argument from the start and move on with my business...

Ok, OK settle down. I apologized about the moving car thing here:

That was an unprompted apology from me because I recognized I was being a jerk. Will you recognize now that you are being a jerk?
You pretty much said you think I'm a jerk and you want this project to fail. You felt that I ignored you and that made you angry. Then you felt I ridiculed you and that made you REALLY angry. So now you will randomly take pot shots at me by criticizing my work?

I would also love to see where I ridiculed you so I can at least either A) apologize or B) explain why I said what I said.

Anyway, it does seem like you are a frustrated troll who is raging over me not taking your ideas into consideration. If you settle down, and try to be somewhat respectful I promise to do the same.

However here is what I expect from you, "F U man! I never wanted to play your stupid game anyway! Sideshow! *Storms out of the forums, slams door behind him*".

I hope you'll prove me wrong. Can we be friends now?

Guard's skin is too reddish, his hands seem disproportional and the spear looks kind of ridiculous. As for Goro, his upper right arm (upper left from watcher's point of view) seems considerably larger then the rest of them. As someone already posted, the lower left shoulder (our lower right) is out of the place. And do everybody a favor, can that attitude! I noticed you tend to tell people to jump in front of the moving cars just for posting the critique you didn't like. Everybody here wants only the best for MKHD and if we state something that accidentally doesn't have the words 'wow', 'great' and/or 'awesome' in it, it's for a reason! You seem to forget that without Bleed this project has no future, so better put your act together and stop bossing around, cos you're just a sideshow. In fact, Bleed would probably make all this even better, with improvements which you avoid so much and which in terms of VS gameplay MK1 craves for. You said that the intention is to create MK1 remake in the similar fashion SSF2T HD Remix was done, but you keep forgetting that SSF2T was 5th iteration of SF2. The developers already balanced and polished every single aspect of the game, and that's why that version recieved HD conversion, not the original one. Even the remixed version got tweaked, it wasn't all about shiny new sprites! God forbid somebody mentions that, cos you freak out right away. Why not include a code to play Reptile? Why not slightly alter hitboxes and change framerate for certain moves in order to achieve the optimum gameplay? Because you're stubborn and rude, that's why! So if you're gonna ignore & diss a person for giving you a good advice, go right ahead. Apparently you wish to be surrounded by suckups, and I, for one, don't have the slightest intention of being the part of that crowd. And if this is the way you're gonna lead this project, then I don't see it coming to life any time soon.

Good, now we are getting somewhere. The hand I agree is too "tan" looking I'll look into fixing that. Have you looked at the original sprite? The hand and spear seem to be in good proportion there so I don't know what you are talking about there.

Look at the actual GORO statue sprite. HIS arms look JUST like this. Yes out of proportion and I've copied that. I agree that his lower left arm, isn't turned exactly the same. I mentioned that I would fix that if it needed it down the road. If you want to get really particular his lower right fist is too big also.

You are right about SFREMIX. It DID get tweaked; by tournament players. I don't see you have won any tournaments so perhaps your opinion on the subject of gameplay isn't as important as you think it is. As for the comment on being surrounded by suck-ups, congrats on just pissing off everyone on this forum. Lets just forget you said what you said, and you can forget I said what I said and we can be friends. If not I'll just ignore you. I can't have your negativity slowing this project down.

Please use the edit/multi-quote buttons, thanks.

I don't see why not. If you're civil with me, I'll be more than happy to respond in the same manner and contribute the project in any way I can. After all, that's why we're all here in the first place.

Ok great. Quick side note: still working on Kanos ammo belt. But I have a freelance project this weekend so I have to knock that out ASAP first.

I'm not sure where we are with the voice acting, but my friend just sent me a sample of his attempt and instantly my jaw dropped, then I laughed because of his sense of humor, you'll hear what I'm talking about in the end...

I knew he'd be good, but wow, I think he nailed it. He's even captured the effects and echo.

Cut the name calling out, guys.

If you need to read the rules again, please do. We do not tolerate name calling. If you can't play nice, don't post.

~ Thanks =)

WOW! That sounds fantastic. Spot on actually. I didn't think it would be possible to get it that close.

Can you get him to do the other voices? I have all the original ones here:

Yes sir, he's on it! I had him join the forum as well so it'd be easier for us to communicate with him, his name is KSMedia. He also uses dropbox so he could send us files directly that way, very trustworthy guy, I've known him for years.

Thanks for that introduction fella! Just a little about me for the others: I'm a musician/producer, web designer and I'm getting back into film making after a couple year's hiatus. I've been doing my own voiceovers for audio and film projects since '01. (It's cheaper than contracting someone) But it's usually been with my regular voice. So that sample was pretty fun to make.

I realize there are others doing voice work, and that this project is for fun and the love of Mortal Kombat. So, whatever yall decide to do is cool. I'll get some more samples going pretty soon. Thanks for listening!

Cal, great work in the Goro statue!

Sorry for not update Kano, always i want to update him, a job or something popup and can't make it. I still wanting make Kano aniway.

Time ago, bleed modeled and uploaded part of the chest belt and uploaded into dropbox, i coudn't make enough time to work on it. If you can make this belt using bleed base will be a progress on Kane.

Thanks for the headsup. I just looked at what Bleed had uploaded and I feel what I've done is bit more accurate to the original costume. The pouch is cool looking though. I really need to learn how to make Multi-Mesh Brushes in zBrush to create the belt based on the one pouch

Welcome KSMEDIA!!

Thank you for your contribution to this project. Your voice is spot on for the announcer in my opinion. I think you could turn down the echo effect just a bit though. That is to say your versions are a bit more echoey (is that a word?) than the original.

Welcome ksmedia, you were born to do this job man!! You hitted the spot, I just think the sound needs more treble, brightness or what you may call it, but since this was just a test I guess the final result will be mind blowing.

Finally got things working to a point where I can continue with animations. I ran in to some problems yesterday with the palettes and some animations not matching, but it's fixed.

Scorpion's fight stance is re rendered with the flipping geometry on the arm guard fixed, and the thumb is posed better.

The turn animation also has the flipping geo fixed, and I changed the animation a bit. It hits a mirror pose half way, so it's easier to work with and has less frames. I can flip the first couple frames and play them in reverse.

A couple notes for the future:

Xref the camera scene file, because it can be animated by accident and throw everything out of alignment...

Turn animation doesn't have to be exactly like the original, make the flip frame symmetrical.

I've run in to a number of problems that are simple to fix, but then a pain because I have to be redoing a ton of sprites. I wish we were doing this in 3D, less of a head ache. There are things right now that I want to fix but it's not possible without redoing the whole thing.

@Bleed, just curious, what are few main things you'd like to change now? Is it something visual that can be fixed with photoshop later on?

With practice I have learned how to make things better in general. Main thing is the character model, it doesn't look close enough to the MK1 sprites. The textures on it can be of better quality, it doesn't look so good up close. There are seams in the older sprites where I changed the color of the vest, you can see an outline around the area. It's fixed now, but you can see the problem in the older sprites.

The hands are not good, I found some ways to get a better result for the fist.

The rig is problematic, because for some reason I can't transfer files from one biped model to the other. Looks like a problem with using non Biped skeleton bones as part of the rig.

Too many selection types on the rig, that I have to be changing in order to animate different parts. Spline shapes, Helper objects and Bones.

Some areas like the neck and spine have too many bones.

One big problem is the Xref abilities of 3ds.max are not as good as Maya. In Maya you can have the character in one file, update the mesh etc. and that will update all the animation files.

In max, you can't update a character like that, so if you make changes to the model in one animation file, that's it. You have to load the animations to that file with the updated mesh, but I'm having trouble with the animation transfer. I get part of the bones working and the cloth animation is totally lost.

In general, it's a lot of little details that can be done better.

How long would it take you to create all gif again? (I asume you have the customizable edit of everything saved and it's just a matter of putting the new model to do the already-created animations right?).

Hey Bleed,

Don't be too hard on yourself. Since we rarely get in too close on Sub or Scorp the quality is still really good. It was a learning experience and now we can get it right for Johnny Cage, Raiden and so on. If you are back working on the animation, isn't the last thing you have to Scorp and Sub intro animations?
