Mortal Kombat 1 General Discussion Media Thread

Personally, I don’t see Sony ever purchasing WB since it’s been a sinking ship of debt for a while now. Unless WBs is just giving away all their IPs out of desperation. I’m not convinced. Sony is still trying to figure out why they bought Bungie for over 3 billion and yet to have anything to show for it. Sony isn’t like Microsoft and can just set giant piles of money on fire and walk away.

Apparently SONY is more interested in WB Games. And even then they just want certain assets.

Speaking of which... Legacy Kollection got me excited. I am so hoping for 3D Era... Gods if they add 3D Era into this Kollection, I will be the happiest I have been in 10 years, when it comes to MK.

Apparently, the split between Warner and Discovery is going to be made in a way that Discovery inherits most of the debt...and CNN, =P

I am also not really sure if Sony is capable of acquiring Warner, because...I seem to recall an old news where Sony spun off a bank...because they couldn't make it profitable.

Either way, I find it fun to imagine what-if scenarios.

another rumor says...Sony is interested in buying the Warner part of the forthcoming split;
Oh, yay! Just what's needed. Another fucking Sony exclusive fighting game (see SFV and the latest Marvel Tokon for further reference).
:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Idk this whole marvel Tokon thing reminds me of that tatsunoko vs capcom game on the Wii situation all over again. Outside of smash Bros, fighting games never really thrive when they’re locked to a certain console. KI and SF5 are perfect examples of this. At least it’s a “new ip” and not an already established franchise locked to a certain platform.

KI and SFV are perfect examples as to why I don't want either Sony or MS buying up WB, though.
Sony could easily try to make MK exclusive to just PS5 / PS6 and PC.
At least with MS it could be argued that they're going more 3rd party now, but Sony likes to take IPs and make them exclusive to THAT console.
SFV (Sony funded) and Spider-Man (Sony licensed) are examples of Sony taking well-known IPs an making them exclusive.
On the other hand, DOOM and Indiana Jones are playable on both Sony and MS consoles & on PC, despite both being published by MS / MS owned Bethesda.

Still annoying as fuck to have a fighting game with 3rd party characters locked to a console, imo.
I understand Smash Bros. because that's first party stuff with Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, et al.

As for the Legacy Collection, if 1 of the last 4 games (now 3 games) to be revealed isn't MK GOLD, then I'm just going to skip over it.
The rest I can still thankfully play on a PS2 or Sega Genesis, but I no longer have a Dreamcast.

Nintendo is just as egregious as Sony with IPs in Smash with 3rd party characters like Cloud and Sephiroth from FF7, Kazuya from Tekken etc; I get you’re annoyed by it but it’s something that’s been going on in fighting games for years now. Soul Calibur 2, a game where you had to own a ps2, gamecube and Xbox versions of the game to play all the guest characters did this long before the MK9 guest character controversy. Unfortunately, I don’t see this trend ending anytime soon.

Yeah, but I'm not talking about 1 or 2 guests, though.
I'm talking specifically about a WHOLE damn game like SFV and Marvel Tokon being only on 1 console and PC.
If Sony ever bought out MK then I could see them making it exclusive to just PS6 / PC just like they did with SFV (since they funded that), since they're a bunch of assholes like that. That's why I wouldn't want Sony to buy out NRS from WB.
MK being exclusive to 1 console (since Sony and Nintendo don't like to share) would suck ass. That's what I'm getting at.

Sony runs the gaming market so they can dictate.
