Mortal Kombat 1 General Discussion Media Thread

I mean while it is pretty old news (they already talked about this earlier), it doesn't change the fact that if the next game will be MK, they will be in deep shit.

No more brand recognition to save them. Now they are back to being the mere mortals, like any other game. They have to work hard to be successful and... with current NRS? Ooof.

There is also brand fatigue coming in. So unless they make some sort of masterpiece, that shines as bright as MK9 or better, the next MK will be the last MK.

So yeah...they moved on already. Looks like I was wrong about them being done with MK for a while. My favorite Ed Boon moments from this interview:

- Again flaunting 4 years of development for MK1 as it was a good thing.
- MK9 got a whopping 6 months from WB to make it THE BEST SELLER blablabla. Yet, 10 years later, 4 years is not enough.
- Then under same breath, "NO MORE 4 YEARS FOR NEXT MK GAME!!".
- Shitting on Midway 3D Era "TOO MUCH!!! TOO FREQUENT!!!". But being known now for COD of fighting games is.... fine?
- What happened to "LONGEST SUPPORTED MK EVER!!!11"?

The problem always starts at the top. Eddy is part of the problem. I love how people are solely blaming WB, but this isn't WB speaking here, it's Eddie and he basically confirms once again that NRS and WB share the same bed.
Probably Injustice 3, my guess.

The kameo system is something that DEFINITELY seems like something that they were originally trying out for the Injustice series. but then big daddy Wb told them to make another MK and they took advantage of it for MK1 as a way of trying to make an MK9 - MK11 Armageddon / "everyone is here" type of game, but not really.
Aside from Fujin, Kai and a handful of klassic characters, everyone else from MK1 through MK4 (and some post-MK4 ones) are there, and tons from MK9 through MK11.
Who's missing from MK3 / UMK3? Kabal, Jade, Sheeva and Nightwolf?
I mean, aside from Jade are people really crying about the other 3 not being in like they were with MK11 Cyrax, Sektor, Reptile and Ermac?
Not really.

People tend to shit on Kollector, Erron Black, D'Vorah, Jacqui and Kung Jin, so no one is really missing those.
Takeda, Geras and Ferra are also back in some shape or form.

There was an interview with an ex-NRS employee who debunked the MK1 was supposed to be I3 line. Apparently this was IT.

Yeah, and all NRS games basically being derivatives of the first 3 MK games..........................................................

Quality Boon

With exception to MK1 that has the most 3D era characters in it since Armageddon, but yeah the whole "NRS games basically being derivatives of the first 3 MK games" is exactly my frustration with MK9, MKX and MK11.
Again, it's not that I hate the klassic characters (I don't), but rather that we've seen this same goddamn story trope before.

Here's a direct Boon quote for the MK11 story mode prior to release:

He elaborated, teasing what the time travel story means for the coming events. “We’re taking all the events of MK1, MK2, and MK3, and folding them on top of the current timeline,” Boon added. “We have time quakes, characters meeting their former selves… [for example], young Liu Kang meeting revenant Liu Kang. It’s so cool.”

This is why I preferred the Aftermath story and to some extent MK1 (until about Chapter 13~14) until we got the fucking Armageddon pyramid again.

Mortal Kombat in kids game. I mean don't get me wrong. All of us here have been playing MK since we were kids, but I just find it funny how they market a game like MK in a game that is targeted for younger audience with family friendly filter.

Even funnier.......the version of UMK3 Sub-Zero in Fortnite is probably the better version of the skin, and more accurate to the originals than even NRS' own designs in either MKX or MK1. :ROFLMAO:

Purchasing in-game currency isn't cheating - it saves time and allows gamers to immerse themselves fully in their gaming experience. MMOGAH provides competitive rates as well as outstanding customer support. Customer service representatives for Final Fantasy XIV Online (FFXIV Online) are real gamers themselves who understand all aspects of the game intimately. Using high-level accounts with unique character names for purchases made, their representatives provide swift delivery services.

Wrong thread, amigos.

Mk vs DC and both injustice games (which obviously had MK guest character dlc)were rated T. MK characters in teen/kid friendly games is nothing new.

MKvsDC felt odd to me with a T-rating because MK has always been ultra-violent, which is why Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Raiden also felt like out of place choices for a T-rated DC series game, imo. Yeah, I get it that NRS makes both of the games, so I get the logical choice, but the TMNT actually felt more in-line with proper guest choices for Injustice 2 because of the T-rating and the fact that there were cross-over comics with Batman to even logically pre-establish the lore reasoning behind it if one wanted to go that route.

Whereas, Joker being in MK11 felt like the ONLY reason he was there was because "gore" and the fact that if you kill the Joker off in brutal ways no one really gives a flying fuck. Hell, some people might even say that the Joker "had it coming" for all of the horrible shit that he's done over the years.
You can't really say the same for characters like The Flash, Batman, Superman or Wonder Woman if they were being torn to shreds or if they were having D'Vorah's 2nd Fatality performed on them where a bug cuts its way and grows out of their torso and takes over. THIS is exactly why I don't think there will ever be an M-rated MKvsDC.......EVER. DC doesn't want to see some of their more beloved heroes treated like that.

MKvsDC was midways final game before WB purchased all their properties. Looking back at it now it’s painfully clear Midway and WB were already in bed together. Since WB owns DC and Midway was selling MK. It was inevitable both franchises would end up together whether it makes sense or not.

Oh, I more than understand the WHY of it, and I agree 100% with you.
MKvsDC essentially felt like a resume game from NRS to WB going "look at what we can do with your DC characters in a fighting game."
That still doesn't change the fact that the clash of those 2 IPs and having MK without the Fatalities that it's known for, felt odd (to me).
What I'm getting at is that I don't think we'll ever get a true M-rated cross over between the 2 IPs where Superman's spine is being ripped out or Batman is getting mutilated.

So, I also get why having characters from a series like MK in a kid-friendly game seems a bit odd to some people. Like, they can make a cutesy Texas Chainsaw Massacre Leatherface Funko Pop all they want.....still wouldn't make it less odd for me if they included THAT version of the character as a guest (for example) in say......Super Smash Bros.
It still would be odd to have a serial killer character like that in a Nintendo game that tends to be all ages / kid-friendly.

SIDE NOTE -- MK1 related:
Madam Bo will be a kameo that drops along with T-1000 on March 18th and her select screen pose has her standing on a stool.
THIS is exactly the kind of silly / gimmicky shit that I wanted with kameos, which is why I'm fine with others like Ferra and Motaro, too.

In WBs eyes it doesn’t have to make any sense as long as it makes money. I remember Mark Hamill making a similar comment when he was asked about Disney and their direction with Star Wars. Of course this was before Star Wars took a nose dive into the abyss. I feel MK as a property is in a similar situation which explains why WB are whoring it out to other games like Fortnite.

Another studio gets rekt under WokeBros "leadership".

All I can say is NRS should watch their backs once in a while....
