Mortal Kombat 1 General Discussion Media Thread

My theory is that the othe timelines exist and Shang Tsung is from another timeline where the bad ending in MK11 happended. Takeda could be a non canon character or Liu Kang will summon the combat kids to a new timeline.
IF that happened then maaaaaaybe 6 or 7 of the characters from the 3D era could have somwhat of a chance of being in.

Been thinking to myself if Liu Kang's trailer was 1/2 of the story trailer, and that perhaps another one with Shang Tsung winning could be the other half shown at the PS showcase tomorrow.
I mean, if peace is Liu Kang's timeline, then maybe chaos could be Shang Tsung's timeline.
Would be at least interesting if characters like Havik, Reiko, Daegon and others were on Shang's side planning a massive assault on Fire God Liu Kang.

*Wakes up from dream*
"Oh, that's right. Dominic is in charge of writing this shit. Nevermind."

Atta boy. Don't repeat the same mistake, I did with Kronika. I also thought, we will be getting a twist villain, with Kronika turning out to be actually trying to save the universe and Raiden going mad from being corrupted with power and his past failures weighing on him, leading him to extreme actions/decisions.
Story is very likely to be some another world ending nonsense. NRS still doesn't get it, that it wasn't just time travel that wrote them into a corner. It is also the insane stakes they keep putting out.
MK9 - Whole Earthrealm is in danger!
MKX - Whole Universe is in danger!
MK11 - What's bigger, than the universe? Eeeeer... TIMELINE. Right. Ok.
MK12:
"Eeeeeer... what's bigger, than a timeline?.... Dave? Jerry? Anyone? Come on guys, you expect me to figure this out? I am just a story writer!"
Janitor comes in, angrily looks at overfilled trash cans:
"Puta Mudre, can't you gringos replace trash bags once in a while? I even put TWO trash cans for you, idiotas"
Dominic slowly, almost in dramatic way, turns his pale face towards the janitor:
"What did you just say?"
"I SAID Pendejo, that I even gave you TWO trash c.."
"THAT'S RIGHT!" Dominic leaps on his feet, lifting his arms in glorious triumph, as few still living neurons in his brain make a desperate connection.
"TIMELINES! Plural! Oh Dominic you magnificent beast, what would I do, if I wasn't me? I am a genius!"
Dominic jumps back into his seat and feverishly starts writing everything down, while astonished with his divine self: The ink spreads across the pages, his hand becomes into an unstoppable force, that gives birth to new worlds, drama, intrigue, betrayal and sacrifice! Worlds colliding, as great battles take place. One page after another falls to Dominic's hand, as he create a masterpiece, that will change EVERYTHING!
"Just you wait Hollywood! That Oscar will be mine!"
Janitor's anger cools down and is replaced with pity, as he looks at a grown man kissing his own reflection and shouting gibberish, while scribbling stick man on a board with a cheap marker. The man silently picks up the bags and walks away, realizing that what he holds in his hands, has more value, than whatever remains in that room.

Boon in interview from few days ago mentioned that MK12 is not a sequel to MK11 and he wants to speak it loud hence the name - MK1. Ok, rebooting timeline is still because of what happened in MK11 but it's a start of entire new reality, in contrast to Shang Tsung ending which is just the same world of second timeline so... I don't belive in alternative realities clash to happen again.

That actually makes sense with E3......uh, I mean....Summer Game Fest now being the big summer event to showcase stuff.
Boon and Keighly have a good relationship as far back as MK9, iirc, so showing of stuff there makes sense, too.
MK11 trailer was also shown off a Keighly's hosted VGAs, and then after that NRS did the whole MK11 stream gameplay on their own.

I was hoping for a small gameplay clip at Sony's event than a full blown gameplay demostration at Summer game fest in June. I guess we're forced to wait just a little bit longer. Oh well I've waited this long........

The $70 MK11 DLC pack is just around the corner!

My guess is that if it's anything that's shown tomorrow they'll show the same trailer from the 18th with the PS5 logo only and how to pre-order different editions. Sony supposedly has marketing rights for it, according to Jez Corden, iirc.

I still hate the title for this game. Better title ideas than MK1:

Mortal Kombat: Reborn
Mortal Kombat: New Legacy
Mortal Kombat: New Era
Mortal Kombat: Resurrection
Mortal Kombat: Renascence
Mortal Kombat: Resurgence

The MK1 trailer is already up on PlayStation's YouTube channel so it seems kinda counter productive and a waste of time to show it again. Unless they're going to show something new.

The name Mortal Kombat 1 alone screams ''We're out of ideas so..........lets pretend it's a reboot but it's not.........................profit !''

This "leak" roster has been posted on many websites. Take it with a huge grain of salt, but I think it's fake.

I feel like this fake because
1. Mavado being on the main roster seems odd. I get why he is a kameo figther because he is unpopular and not many people would play him. Also, why not use Kabal instead. Many people hated Mavado back in the day because they felt like he was a cheap Kabal rip off. They even had Kabal kill him in MKD.
2. Quan Chi and Ermac were already on the DLC list on Amazon unless they screw it up. This feels like something that was made before the game was announced.
3. Raiden not being on the main roster is a red flag. Even if he is mortal now, he is always going to come back. He's MK's big 5 (Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, Raiden, and Sonya) after all.

I think it'll just be the same trailer being shown again during showcase since they know that there will be eyes on it and people will tune into the stream. Maybe they'll add the PS5 logo in the part where the release date and Shang show up.
No need for them to re-invent the wheel.

8 of the 3D era characters on the main roster?
Yeah, sure. That's horseshit based off of that alone. :ROFLMAO:
I will go against everything I said about waiting for a price drop and get this game day-1 if that happens, but I don't see me doing that.

I hope the DLC won't take forever to come out. I remember there was a two month gap between the base game lunch and Shang Tsung coming out.

Aside from too many 3D era characters i think the biggest hole in that list is Geras. Doesn't make any sense for him to be around without Kronika.
Although they could do something interesting with an independent rogue timeline wandering Geras that somehow escaped the bottomless ocean, but I doubt NRS would do anything with that.

If anyone from MK11 returns, it would likely be Kollector. He's just a greddy scum bag Outworlder and a jobber. Not to mention, at least one character from the previous game returns.

That leak looks more propable in terms of roster:
  • Liu Kang
  • Raiden
  • Johnny Cage
  • Reptile
  • Kano
  • Scorpion
  • Sub Zero
  • Sonya Blade
  • Kung Lao
  • Ashrah
  • Nitara
  • Havik
  • Kitana
  • Mileena
  • Cassie Cage
  • Rain
  • One of the Cyborg characters
  • Shang Tsung
  • Kira
  • Hsu Hao

Additionally, it was stated that characters in the base roster can be used as kameos (Mortal Kombat 1’s wordplay on cameos). Therefore, according to the leaked information, all of the characters in the reveal trailer are also usable as kameos. There are, however, characters that will only be kameo, such as new entrants Kira and Hsu Hao.

The leaker, r00000r, mentioned that they only had direct access to a major piece of production material, and their information is limited to it. For example, they knew kameos are a part of the game, but had no idea what they were meant to be until now. They know who’s playable in the story mode, but do not know about characters outside of it. There are two major characters who are present in the story mode that do not take part in fights.

Regarding the story, it was stated by CaptainKashup that both Aftermath endings are considered canon here. There will be some timeline overlap, and a tiny portion of the story will take place in the past. Much like Liu Kang, Shang Tsung comes from his own ending from Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, though he is not the main villain in Mortal Kombat 1. According to the source, the portal that he uses is the same type of time portals that were used in Aftermath.
