Mortal Kombat 1 General Discussion Media Thread

The next trailer is also going to be "best trailer ever". Just like MK11, best trailers/game ever, and 2 months later you were bitching how awful the game was.

What "original timeline"?

And how is this a "disguise"? The nerd just does a switcharoo and then Killer Croc from Injustice 3 appears. No sorry I mean Derptile from 2021 Movie.... who pretty much everyone hated.

The original timeline is the one that first existed (i. e. Mortal Kombat in 1992). Reptile was in human disguise according to his bio (even though was just a pallet swap in gameplay).

all 3 ninjas showed as being 32 years old or something (probably because that was Danny's age back in 1992).

Scoprion's eyes: none and stuff like that

That image is so tiny even a microscope doesn't help....

Anyways, "Original Timeline" would pretty much include not just MK1 (...the akshual MK1....), but MK1 till 7. That's why I've asked....

The human Reptile was more of a technology limitation than a creative decision, and most of Human Reptile popularity came not from the games... but from the 1995 movie. And even there he wasn't exactly "Human"..... more like a walking corpse.

Take MK4 for example. As soon as technology improved, and with John Tobias still on board, we've went from a recolor to.... well.... Reptile, and it's been that way ever since.

As for MK12 Reptile, since it's a complete reboot, the idea of a "shapeshifter" is okay.... if we ignore that Shang Tsung is also a shapeshifter... my biggest problem is that it's done so poorly, and Injustice 3 Killer Croc/MK2021 Derptile sticks out like a sore thumb. "Best of both worlds"? More like the worst of both worlds.

Just thought of something and Netherrealm Studios probably did this. What if the main threat is Kitana. Remember the quote:
"Peace is now threatened by an enemy that Liu Kang could never have anticipated"

Well they established she's powerful enough to kill Shao Khan, so who knows what she's capable of doing now.

The best trailer they've shown yet and you mfs still find ways to be miserable.
My only "gripe" (if you can call it that) was the dinosaur / 2021 movie Reptile transformation and wishing that Sareena was main roster.
Dunno, guess I'll get used to the transformation thing and with regards to Sareena, hopefully she'll be KP2 / DLC or something down the line.
I did love Sareena's kameo moves, but it's just all the more reason for why I wanted her as playable. 😔

Other than that the trailer was awesome.
Ashrah and Havik look sick as hell and I can't wait to play as them, Kenshi, Tanya and Li Mei.

MK11 beta/release was also "fucking amazing".

That was back when we still thought we were getting custom variations. MK11's biggest problem was the lack of freedom.
1 certainly doesn't have that issue. Nothing is "non competitive legal", we aren't sitting here wondering if we're going to be able to use the characters how we want to. Shit just works out the gate, and I'm all here for it.

The beta is next week too. I'm gonna be on that as well. Cooking up the fucking shnastiest mixups you've ever seen in your life.

Okay hypeman. Will that happen before or after WB cuts support?

Fuck WB's support. If the game is good it wont matter. To this day there are still characters I want to learn in MKX, but its so difficult because I can't stop using Reptile. He's insanely fun

Well, yeah... I've just finished MK9 Online set with Reptile and Kano... Now that got me hyped.

It does matter a lot. You'll be left with pretty much an unfinished game... just like MK11.

I don't like MK11, but I couldn't call it unfinished. Its shallow for sure, but their vision for that game is complete. As narrow as it was.

Not bad, reminds me of MK9 Jax corner Death Combos.... but here it looks like there's a gap. Just wakeup/armor/poke.

Jax's Ground Pound breaks armor.
There's a gap for sure in that clip, he should have called Jax sooner, but in the beta people were doing similar things with Liu Kang and it was legit unavoidable from what I could tell.

I'm loving how crazy some of the Kameos are. They aren't just basic fireballs and rush attacks. Scorpion's ultra backdash, Kung Lao's teleport, Jax's unblockable, Sareena's ground rune thing, Darrius' weird ballet routine lol. These are looking like they're going to add real depth to whoever you add them to.

Also idk if you saw any of the breakdowns but Li Mei has those air lantern things, pretty standard stuff, but she can also shoot them down and make them explode prematurely if she shoots them with her air fireball. Dude MK11 you had to give up half of your moveset to get an air fireball, now characters are getting them and they interact with their other moves? This is why I'm saying NRS has a completely different philosophy with the design of this game. At least from what we've seen so far

There's definitely a gap before Jax ground pound hits. Also Li Mei was in the air so something like Derptile "slide" would make both moves whiff. Not exactly unavoidable.....

I do like how they've sped up the game a bit and added dash cancels.... It's not nearly as fast as MK9, and it's cancels not block dashes, but it's an okay starting point. Nice to hear that they've added some AA, unlike the borefest that was MK11.

Jax's Ground Pound breaks armor.
Does that move still affect both players like it did in the stress test?
Could have sworn that in a video that I saw from the stress test that Ground Pound hurt BOTH the person with the Jax kameo AND the opponent.
I mean it's not like there wasn't moves that hurt the person doing the moves in the past (Erron Back dynamite), but just wondring about that.

Oh nah I'm saying for sure Li Mei in that video did it too early, but if you watched some Liu Kang gameplay it was the same setup concept but MUCH tighter. Sub Zeros weren't able to slide out of it because there's no gap, Jax hits them before they can reach him.

Yeah, still hits both. Thats why you have to jump on the setup
