MKX Story Trailer (CST 8:00 02/27)

Ok well seeing as Liu Kang is my favorite character, and people are kinda talking about him in this thread I guess ill type up how I feel about him in the past, present, and what I think he will be if he shows up in MKX

Ok so most people see Liu kang as this boring character that has no personality yada yada yada

Ever since I could remember Ive always dug Liu Kang even before I really got into MK, and I admit one of the reasons was because I am a huge Bruce Lee fan. So during the time when I really got into MK (Which was when I got MKSM for Chistmas) I started to do research on every thing especially Liu Kang. After reading just about anything I could find on his background this is what I saw

I saw Liu Kang as this kid who was raised into becoming earths last hope...... Most kids would probably bale out on that because their future is being planned out for them. Not Liu tho he took the responsibility that no one else could bare. He knew the risk and yet still decided to fight knowing that he could die. To me thats kind of inspiring Liu is practically risking his life to protect the people of earth. That is what I call a true Hero. Now im not a fool Liu does suffers the same fate with the main heroes in fighting games (save the world, train, save the world again, train again) but again as a kid I just saw a dude who fights like my fav martial artist, wears my favorite color scheme and uses my favorite element fire.

In Mk9 I still see him the same way

I like what they went with in MK9 (minus the whole toasty thing at the end of the game) Like I said Liu was raised to become a hero raised into believing in Raiden and the other the other gods, and as you can see Liu lost faith which is exactly what might happen to a religious person in the real world if dealt with a lost. He was taught that if you win everything will be ok, but of course that wasnt the case even tho he won not once but twice he still lost not only his fellow Shaolin, but also his best friend, and later on the chick he was crushin on who just so happened to feel the same way. add the fact that the guy he looks to for advice is possibly crazy (we know Raidens not crazy but Liu doesnt) also the world was also going into shit... I dont blame Liu for attacking Raiden hell im sure if we were all in Lius shoes we'd of done the same thing. and thats why I like Liu now more then ever because his not just a dude that trains, win, trains again, wins again

Ok now as for his design Im cool with it yeah I know its just Red/black pants with a red headband but you have to remember Lius a monk they dont go all out with their wardrobe to begin with as you can see

but again i not a fool I like to see more which is why I love his alt in MK9 its something a monk would normally wear but it keeps the red/black color scheme, and again its simple enough. So if Liu is in MKX I hope they go for something like that again more Shaolin less Bruce lee if anything give him his lee inspired costume as his alt.

Now lets just get one thing straight I dont think Liu will become a fire god and I dont think he will be the big bad. To be be honest I think those have to be the stupidest ideas. Now what I think NRS will go with is a man who has to really find himself again. He realized that he was wrong about Raiden and his visions and almost made a big mistake but also still cant really trust Raiden. Now from what Im told in the MKX comic Johnny is the new champ so that automatically releases the duty of protecting earthrealm from Liu kang. however he technically is still the last MK champ because the last official tournament was in outworld during MK2 so the no aging rule still applies to him. So what does a man who doesnt age and has a lot of time on his hands do. Take the Rurouni Kenshin route and become a wanderer hoping to find yourself again and what your next move will be ( if that makes sense at all) Thats just what I think tho..... I just have one more thing to say Zombie Liu Kang blows I dont understand why the kang haters think its an improvement its literally the same guy they hate but with grey skin not much else changed.

Actually, the no aging thing actually gets revoked if you lose in a fight, even outside of a tournament. Which is why the Shaolin were primarily the only Earthrealm contestants in the tournaments before MK1 (in which Raiden got desperate for recruits), since, if any of them won a tournament, they would avoid fighting as much as possible until the next tournament arrives.

I DO like the idea of him becoming a wandering anti-hero that slowly becomes a true hero again. Though judging from the GIGANTIC focus on the new Special Forces team, I doubt something like that would come to pass. Unless they repeatedly run into Liu Kang randomly throughout the story and he helps out for a couple fights here and there... which would be pretty lame to tell you the truth.

Besides, Kang got crispy-fried by Raiden, even if he was completely healed, I'm sure he would be pretty damn salty about that. Unlike in the old timeline, MK9 Liu Kang didn't have a complete damper on his emotions like most other monks do so that's what's factoring into the evil Kang theories.

Wow that was a cool trailer! My + and - points are:

+ I like the new heroes! Three of them are instant catch for me (Cassie, Kung Jin and Takeda)
+ Rain! He must be playable, I mean Mileena can't be alone in the roster can she? Everybody has allies! And there is no sign of Reiko.
+ Love the bow and Whip in the game! About time!
+ Li Mei! While I hate her, I kinda like what they have done with her as NPC.
+ Sindel! This means we will fight her probably, while she isn't playable, hope more characters have this (not Rain though, I want him playable)
+ Mileena being such an awesome boss!
+ That pirate guy with the skeleton mask can be Havik or Ron Tan Cho?
+ The story is very interesting! Can't wait!
+ Seeing Li Mei being in the fugitive camp, gives me hope for Tanya, maybe tanya will sneak into the fugitive camp and wreck havok there.

- Shinnok, really don't want him playable in over Havik, Tanya, Reiko, Rain, Sektor, I don't like that he has a updated costume at all.
- Jacqui, really don't like her name, her bland suit, her flamethrowers (RIP Sektor) and her Jax-like storyline of following Cassie around... But I'll judge her later when we finally see more of her, but her costume is really bland and boring for me, same with the first half of her X-ray...
- With 4 main heroes being special forces, it will really be a drama for me if Johnny, Sonya and Jax are all in the game, I think 4 is the perfect number of Special forces, and with these being so damn cool, no need for the old heroes anymore.
- No sign of Reiko and Tanya, BUT no sign of Quan Chi, Ferra/Torr and Kung Lao either! SO there is still hope. Of course that could mean that there is also still hope for Jax and Sonya, but I rather hope NOT.
- While I like Kung Jin, I don't like his name, I rather seen KAI being brought back with Kung Jin's new gameplay, Kai sounds better to me than Kung Jin and it makes more sense for an african-like monk to use a bow.

That smoke in the end is Quan Chi, so it's obvious to me that Quan Chi is the end boss... also that smoke will be the reason that the plane crashes down in the city, the plane being that of Cassie cage & CO?

All by all i'm really hyped and excited about the game, most of all because we seen Rain in the trailer and the 3 of the 4 new heroes are really cool!

It's been a day since the trailer came out and I've been overwhelmed by all the posts here and new threads made that I didn't really need to give my 2 cents because pretty much all of you feel the same way as I do: Absolutely PUMPED!

I am do happy we have Hanzo in the game and not just Scorpion, and we get to see that side of him in Story Mode. I feel like NRS has made some new Scorpion fans because of that.

Loving the new heroes as always, I hope we get to play as Kotal Kahn in Story Mode because it'll be awesome for a change to play as a "neutral" Outworld Ruler.

And Sub-Zero with a beard....

This is a minor detail but for some reason I only noticed now, the helmets of Kotal's army are designed to look like snake heads. The circles are eyes and the bones on the sides are the fangs. There are also those two huge snake statues in front of the temple, so it seems like Kotal's kingdom (now merged into Outworld) had a Snake theme going on.
I also hadn't noticed that there's a guy in a pillory in the scene where the "kids" walk into the city escorted by Erron Black, with a bunch of people checking it out. Possibly a Mileena follower.

Screencap of all this:

Well he's not charismatic enough to be the hero of the franchise, his outfit is uninspired since he just wears shorts and a headband, no shirt? that's lazy and he has fire moves which are too damn common, yes I know he was the first character to get fire moves but well... he's not the only one any more, and characters like Scorpion have a better fire based moveset than Liu Kang.

I don't hate him, I just don't like him at all.
exactly, he always reminded me of Bruce Lee type character. I like Bruce Lee, but like you said Liu is uncharsmatic. He is a asian guy with a generic costume, yells, shoots fire, and turns into a Chinese dragon. Their are plenty of asian male characters who are well developed In other games. Arguing the time and tech is invalid to me, cause Scorpion and Raiden are both great developed characrers since early on and progressed through story while others Remained the same.
