they made him just for fun.
you know what they should do? make a prequel or something. since MKA is supposed to be the end of the MK tournaments, and they were supposed to have occurred every 500 years, and MK1 was going to be the 10th victory for Outworld (but presumeably many more than that have taken place). So they could EASILY go back over 5000 years in the timeline. Before you say "omg, that sux!" think about it, they did it with Star Wars with KOTOR, and it was brilliant. If they do it just right, they could have the same effect. But that's just a thought. I'd still rather see where it goes from here, rather than what led up to it. Because we all pretty much know that story like the backs of our hands.
They might simply be like "ok...after MKA everyone died and Taven is now our main character...here's a new boss that came and tried to disrupt things when Taven took over. and here's all the people that tried to help/stop Taven."
It'll be just like the saga that is the Dragon Ball time line. Everyother day some new a-hole trying to destroy the world, just when you think everyone's dead, here they come again. Just when you think the enemies are gone, here come a whole new bunch to screw things up. Just when you think you've got everything figured out, it all goes out the window and a whole new rules are made and broken again.
