Is Kung Lao really as bad as they say he is?

I believe it is the player, rather than the character, that causes skill. Someone could be really bad at raiden but win alot online due to the person mastering his cheap tactics to win. Yet if someone who was a pro at the game decided to main raiden and get really good with him, they would play a different style of raiden which could be less cheap than those who play him in his cheap-form.
Cheap tactics dont work at different tiers, which is why I think people are so bothered by Lao. Yeah he is strong, but because perhaps 60% or more of players online are not pr0s by any stroke of the imagination (including me), Kung lao gets bad rep (HES OP, HE KILLED MY CAT, WHY IS HIS HAT SOO GOOD, HAVENT I SEEN HIM ON A BOND FILM BEFORE? IT SUCKED!) as new tier players have no idea to deal with him.

The problem is that most characters can easily be punished with combos by making mistakes. Kung Laos spin stuffs all players that try to rush in on them and people dont seem to realize that. I am a Kung Lao player and I see SOO many people online including characters that have records that are like 1233/200 set themselves up for a spin by idiotically rushing in trying to get a combo off
 
The way I use Kung Lao, I play very defensively. I'll throw hats and block, if he jumps, I jump up and double kick, followed by a roll and either a spin or an X-ray. If he gets at around jump distance, I'll EX spin him if I'm winning at that point. If he gets too close or teleports behind me, I spin and then start a little combo that usually ends in the mid 20s. And if he throws something at me, I'll teleport behind him and start a combo using the teleport kick followed by whatever I feel like using.
 
I hate to bump another Kung Lao thread but I really don't want to start a new one to avoid being flamed...

So this is a derail of sorts :P

If they were to nerf Kung Lao to make him "balanced" what could they do besides removing moves? And if they did what move could they remove besides his hat spin? That move is pretty signature of him since MK2 isnt it?

I think if they nerfed his rushdown speed he would be pretty balanced, it would make him a more defensive/zoning oriented character.

I usually beat Lao's but if they play him rushdown, and are good at mixups its f'n rough...
 
I dont see why everyone is going into details KL is probably the fastest versatile kharacter in the game. I've played some KL's that I have an extremely hard time with. You cannot rush them, they control the air, they do great block strings and mixups for ex. 2 hits > ground hat (which btw i find ground hat to have a very fast recovery time), they rape you in corners, they utilize ex moves very well to increase their combo potential. A very well played KL does not lose often.

He is the best kharacter in the game. I've come to realize this but it does not bug me.
 
More recovery time for low hat would help. A rushdown Kung Lao is crazy! Not to mention he can zone pretty well too and nearly perfect control over air and ground fight. But it doesn't really look like NRS is willing to nerf Kung Lao considerably, I mean seiously, he was too overpowered when th game came out, it's impossible they didn't know that.
 
I don't know if they have sneaked in a secret hotfix, because Derp Laos combos seem to be much less damaging now.

his hat spin should also behave more like Baraka's spin imo and be able to be punished by low attacks
 
Seriously what this guy said.

If they made Derp Laos spin work the same way as Barakas, and TOOK AWAY hyper armour on his EX Teleport, that would be job done in my opinion!
