Fatality Screams in MK1

I have the MK arcade collection downloaded from the PS network for my PS3. This seems like a very accurate port. One odd thing I noticed and was not aware of this during the arcade run for this game: There are two different screams when you kill off a character with a fatality (Liu Kang and Sonia not included). On my game, I've only heard the second scream maybe 3 times with probably 12 hours of game play.

Is there a certain time the other scream is triggered? I don't get it. Is it only during two player mode or something? The computer killed me once and that scream happened. I thought I was losing my mind. Then I got the sound when playing online mode against someone else.

Thanks for your help. Probably sounds like an odd question.
 
I believe the first player always uses one death scream and the second player always uses the other.
