endurance mode/ more vs options in MKX

BANALITY
alright so we know theres no tag mode in MKX and obviously with the 3 variations tag mode would be insanely difficult to balance out.

but that does not mean the there cant be other VS modes like 2vs2 3vs3 4vs4 etc

the characters dont need to be able to swap in and out (tag) but just have it so once your characters health reaches zero your next character jumps in till all are finished.

its obviously not as fun as tag but its better than nothing also i notice in online tag matches a lot of players dont bother with the tag feature anyway and just play the first character till they die then continue with the next character with no tagging in and out and no tag combos.

i remember Mortal Kombat 3 had a mode called ENDURANCE MODE where you could select anything up to 8 characters a side. once one of your characters die the next one just jumps in and i remember the announcer used to say the name of the character that jumped in which i always thought was a cool touch.
it also has the option of 4 players having 2 players on each team each controlling their own selection of characters

up to 8 players is probably a bit extreme for todays MK since the rounds tend to last longer due to the game being more technical now compared to MK3 bit i think anything up to 4vs4 would be a great addition. i also dont think it would too hard to add a feature like this to the game since theres no balancing to worry about. its simple additional feature yet can add so much to the games vs mode and multiplayer and if they could do it way back in 1995 with MK3 why not now?

in online mode you could have a 4vs4 match where you team up with some other online player and pick 2 characters each and fight another team of 2 people who control 2 characters each. allthough you would need a pretty awesome online netcode to take it that far but it still shows there are lots of possibilities from one simple additional feature. also i dont know if any other fighting games do that as i dont follow any other fighting games only MK. i also think a feature like this could be implemented into the whole faction war thing where you could team up with members of the same faction.

anyway i hope they are doing something like this because as of now it looks like 1vs1 is the only option. and for all those that loved tag and are dissapointed that theres no tag in MKX at least this would be the next best thing for them.

i know a lot of people dont like the idea because the matches can take longer but there are some people that like playing long drawn out battles and want more options than just 1vs1. and i think an Endurance mode could be a good addition for those people.

so what do you guys think?

I'm an offline player so I want more options to play disconnected. MK9 only had ladder mode, it didn't even have versus, so it kinda sucked for me.

That would be exactly how 90% of players played tag in MK9 anyways. I would dominate ranked tag because I would actually use characters together.

Would that really matter? NRS made no effort to balance MK9 tag mode, and ppl still used it. It was full of obvious infinities but most ppl never utilized the assist combo feature or really cared to. Most ppl who played tag team in mk9 treated it like a team battle from my experience. My point is I don't see how balance would matter for MKX when it didn't for MK9.

1) i really like that idea.

2) the faction war trailer explained how factions match up and u can do 5 vs 5.

I could not agree more. Mortal Kombat X definitely needs some additional vs options aside from the usual one on one. I play Tag Kombat and Tag Ladder more than any other game mode in MK9, so I assumed they would return for sure and was let down when I discovered that wasn't the case.

Unlike a lot of people who play Mortal Kombat (2011) I almost never use the online modes and instead play offline with friends most of the time. Having a mode that lets up to 4 people participate in a fight (even if it isn't all at the same time) gives the game a lot of replayability for us. After fighting one on one enough, fights would end the same way time and time again, things would get repetitive. Being able to play team matches means a greater variety of fights and more varied results as well.

Tag Ladder is another mode I play constantly with my brother. We're nearly equals in terms of skill which makes for some great fights, but we like teaming up even more than fighting one another, and being able to alternate between the two is a big part of why we're still playing MK9. Fighting your way through an Arcade Ladder is fun. Fighting your way through an Arcade Ladder with your sibling, friend, or significant other as a fitting team? Infinitely more fun!

I understand that Tag mode wasn't popular online, had broken combos, etc. I would be perfectly fine if tag combos and tag specials were taken out, I hardly used them anyways. 2 vs 2 Kombat and 2 player Arcade Ladders would be fairly simple modes for them to add and they would add a lot of variety to the game. I get that Single Player and Online multiplayer are all the rage these days, but not having a four player mode for those who play offline with other people would be pretty lame considering the previous game had that as an option.

I completely agree with the OP. The Faction Team Battle (5v5) is a missed opportunity in my opinion. I do not see the logic in making the game mode 1v1 five times instead of the Endurance Mode the OP described.

This is honestly a really good idea. I'm really hoping that MKX adds more options like this instead of keeping it 1vs1. Adding those options that the OP listed would actually make this game entertaining for me, so like that it won't be the same old 1vs1 for the entire game.

yeah. 1v1 five times instead of something like an Endurance Mode dosent exactly scream next gen. just seems a little too basic and generic

Never even thought about this, but that sounds really cool.
