Colonizing Mars?

We haven't been to the moon in almost 50 years. What makes anyone think we have the gumption or skills to send people to Mars for a colony? That's like asking a newbie at track and field to win an Olympic Medal at the pole vault. People be cray.

Develop near-Earth orbit space colonies. We need the technological experience and technical know-how that will only be gained from construction projects near Earth before we try to make a colony on another planet with a harsh environment.

I hear its a one way trip. if they go it has to be for the rest of their life.

Considering that it would probably take YEARS just to get there, yeah, it would be a one way trip.
Much like the first PS3 and 360 consoles, though, I'd rather wait until they got all the bugs out and have perfected it.
It would suck major ass to go on that trip and for NASA to be like "Oops, you're stuck." "There won't be another group of people there for another 10 years."

This is what happens when people overindulge in sci-fi media....

Prolonged weightlessness causes osteoporosis, which can be reduced by exercise and medicine. Research onboard the International Space Station has led to even better and more effective training programs being drawn up, and new machines being made specifically for astronauts. Conjointly, there have been major leaps forward in medications capable of partially preventing declining calcium levels.

A recent study about 14 ISS astronauts, who were 4-6 month in space, showed a maximum bone loss of 1.5% / month in the most vulnerable (from a bone loss point of view) region - the hip. Therefore, once landed on Mars after 7 months of flight, the bone loss would be in the worst case scenario 10.5%.

When they arrive on a planet with 62% less gravity, they would have 100% more bone density compared to humans under earth gravity.

Wait a minute...why would people have greater bone density living on a planet with significantly less gravity than Earth when prolonged weightlessness leads to osteoporosis?

You want the stupid people to have a whole new planet to breed on? , you cray.

If they are breeding there, they wont be breeding here, thus, this planet that I choose to remain living on can work on redeeming itself, baby.
