Button layout/Move changes really hurt the game...

I'm enjoying MK9 quite a bit so far but the two things that are unforgivable to me is the new button layout and the changed motions for special moves.

I've been playing MK since day 1 when it was released in the arcades. The button layout and the motions for the moves are ingrained into my brain. Why in the world did they think it would be a good idea to change the controls to Left Punch, Right Punch, Left Kick, Right Kick? The stance change seems pointless and I just don't see why other than novelty they would let you control each limb. This isn't Time Killers.

Now imagine to my surprise when I tried Liu Kang out for the first time last night. F-F-HP(LP). What? No fireball? F-F-HK(RP). What? Where is my flying kick? Ugh. On top of the terrible idea to change the button layout, why would they go and change moves we have done for 18 years? This would be like if Capcom decided to change the motion for fireballs and dragon punches in Street Fighter 4.

Not only is the button layout pointless, it also doesn't make any sense now. Why is Kang doing a flying kick when I'm pressing Right Punch? Why is Scorpion doing a teleport punch with Left Kick?

Other than the above mentioned and some questionable character designs, I really do think it's a good game with a ton of replay value. The control scheme and move changes however hurt the game immensely and instead of being a 9/10 it knocks it down to at least a 8/10 or maybe even 7.

Anyone else QQ'ing?

Gotta adapt. its different, so tell yourself that, and get used to it. not much else you can do.

PS- changing the button layout will only confuse you even more.

I agree with the last part. I think they just did it because, for example, Kangs flying kick was always mapped to 2, but it is pretty stupid that now a punch button is there. And since they're trying to keep things intuitive with the button position rather than the function, why couldn't they do the same with the directional inputs? Flying kick should always be f,f.

Come to think of it though, not many characters have a move that has f,f as a direction or b,b. Maybe to keep it from coming out by accident when you're dashing?

That's exactly why.

I know what OP means about the commands changing, and for the first few days of demo play it did screw me up too. But you quickly get used to it and it's no longer a problem, for me anyway. I actually like the default controller settings too!

I personally like how they changed most peoples moves to only two movement and then a button. This makes characters that I havent played yet somewhat easy to get started with as I can figure out most of their moves without looking at the move list.

Also DO NOT change the new button controls as you will be confused even more. Just accept the change and adapt to it.

you might be right, the biggest thing that pisses me off is the flip stance button, I could find at least 2 extremely useful duties for this wasted mapping especially on the standard 360 controller were its PIA to slam the Y&A or X&B during the end or middle of a dial combo this one place were street fighter(In the game menu) and madcatz got it right but since u can't remap the useless button you cant even reassign it with the extra buttons available on the fightpad's mode button. I'd love to see them allow free mapping for just for the flip stance button, in a future update since its really useless, let everyone map any combo of two attack buttons there and It'd be awesome!
